How does the same album get nominated for a second year in a row as "Album of the Year" Was there NOOOOO albums in 2005?
Pretty shitty that U2 wins three awards of an album that's two years old.
Who's paying for these awards? Come on, Kelly Clarkson beating out Gwen Stefani, Maria Carey, Bonnie Raitt, and Paul McCarthy?
Just like the government...totally corrupted :)

Most of us do not consider the Grammy's an "award."

I love the fact that Henry Rollins gave his grammy away for "best spoken word CD" or some crap like that. He said it was an insult to musicians everywhere to own something like it.

The Grammy's are a joke, but the general public who tune in to watch probably don't care. They would have never known that Fountains of Wayne was hardly a new artist when they got nominated for thier third record, probably never heard of them before and didn't run out and buy anyways. Labels require thier employees to vote for their artists. According to Coolfer they release records with the sole purpose of getting thier employees eligibile to vote in the Grammy's. It's simply a marketing tool...

Some of the Grammy winners in the non-mainstream categories are deserving. For example, Ry Cooder and Ali Farke Toure were both winners.

yeah, the grammies have non-mainstream categories...sure buddy

Who is John Legend?

Is Ali Farke Toure related to Seko Toure, the late dictator of Guinee-Conakry?

Aren't all black people related?

No, they are a portrait of the music industry. It's all about the Hamiltons, baby....

I know the Grammies are a joke and a marketing tool, but it really is just a slap in the face to every other record label and artist out there when another band wins off an album that won the year before.
Personally for me, U2 lost it after "Joshua Tree."

Did you listen to any of those songs? Gwen gave it a good run but that was the best song out of that bunch.
The real question is were those the songs that should have been nominated? And for the record, I've said it from the first day that I heard it that Since You Been Gone should be song of the year. And I'm pretty sure Ted Leo agrees with me.

The TV went off right after Linkin Park got called an "inspired rock band." That just did it for me.
-
U2 never had it. Bone-Oh needs to just go away.

This was the only reason why I watched the Grammys last night.

thats the best mohawk i've seen in awhile... youngin's today really need to get a clue!
for me U2 went south when bono went from singer in a rock n' roll band to rockstar on the War tour. live at red rocks makes me cringe...
-
Sly looks baaddaass in that photo . . . moreso than on the telecast where he looked meeker and, well, surreal. The tribute to him generally sucked, but I actually thought Adam Levine and Ciara did a nice job with Everyday People.
U2 and especially Bono is so . . . tired. Are there any mainstream bands AT ALL that one could say are in their prime? (Someone may say The Killers and that could be . . . but aren't they just Third Eye Blind with good taste and who associate w/ more talented producers?)

As further evidence of the Grammy's irrelevance:
'Idol' crushes Grammys in ratings
Almost twice as many preferred the amateurs (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/09/grammys.tvratings.ap/index.html)
-
it bothers me to think that over 40 million people watch EITHER of those shows....
just goes to show, i guess, people will watch anything!

No, they call each other "cousin".

The whole show was utterly ridiculous.
Paul McCartney doing Helter Skelter? Cool.
Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, and Linkin Park doing Yesterday? So totally embarrassing.
Having Adam Whore-Man from Maroon 5 sing a Sly Stone in tribute? With that chick from American Idol? So utterly, totally embarrassing.
I could go on.....there was so much wrong with this show. These were my only facial expressions through the show:
Bono is to music what Coach K is to college bball. Either you love him and are a big fan, or you hate him. No middle ground.
-
actually, i am 100% indifferent to Bono.
if he moved to Africa and no one ever saw him again..it would be years til i said "what ever happened to that U2 character?"
