I found this also bizarre because she shot herself just outside the town I used to live in in California.
 
 I remember Highway 17 well.  We also stopped on the side there for a while, but due to engine trouble, and when found, we were alive and well (after all, here I am).
 
 A sad story about Iris Chang, indeed.

Whoa. This is sad and bizarre. I saw Iris Chang give a lecture in San Francisco several years back. She was intelligent, articulate, and engaging. Her books focused on some of the darkest events in modern history. Perhaps it took a mental toll on her. Sad, indeed.
