He was just 35 when he died! Damn, he was able to enjoy the type of success that other would have taken years to do.

Just the ones that have a dozen different kids with a handful of different mothers, and still drive their limo to the welfare office to pick up food stamps.

So if it was true, he was an asshole.
If it was staged, he was a poseur.

I'm sorry that ODB didn't live up to your high moral standards.  By picking up food stamps, he seemed to be taking responsibility for his children.  Wow, what a scumbag.

He made $230,000 that year and was able to provide for his family without public assistance.

Still, I'm gonna miss reading about his antics and stuff...

If he had been truly responsible, he would have married one woman and had a family with that one woman, instead of fathering a dozen children with several mothers.

Picking up food stamps for you kids doesn't really qualify as highly responsible if you're not around to function as a father to your children and husband to their mother.

Actually it was VH1, and since it was a documentary on how and when he was getting out of jail, and his life in general.  So why would that stuff get made up?

I thought the guy was a riot, but not really a role model.

I wasn't aware that Mick Jagger had 12 kids with several different women by the time he was 35. But if so, he's not a very good role model either.

At least Mick Jagger put out some good music by the time he was 35, which would separate him from ODB.

Isn't the bigger point that it is kind of stupid to say "good riddence" about anyone's death? (I guess barring some dictator, meglomaniac, or the like).
You clearly know nothing about him (For example: The staged food stamp episode was a staged event on MTV in the mid 1990's when they still had "MTV News"- and distinct from the VH1 special that checked on his release from jail; which I don't see as too different then any of the stupid things any number of famous people do in order to get media coverage and present an image)
So your point is that you don't like his music, and for that you cheer his death. Great point, and it certainly isn't laced with any racial overtones, because he is a rapper and not some idie rock mope.

No, I never said that.
Nor did I say "Good Riddance, another worthless black person dead".

But of course you idiots like to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my head that don't exist, all for the purpose of goading me and trying to stir up controversy in hopes of making your boring little lives more interesting.

I can't believe what I'm reading. I hear people diss Curt Cobain, The dude from Alice and Chains and a whole slew of other peoples deaths. Rhett is doing nothing any differently then what other people do when someone they don't like dies. If George W. Bush died, the minority of people that didnt vote for him from this thread would have a field day. I'm not saying it's right, but if we're gonna slam Rhett, then slam everyone else that disrespects someone dying. I know I do it, so I'm not gonna slam Rhett for doing it.

All right, enough!

My reaction was just a knee jerk reaction to what I read about the guy in the Washington Post Express today. Before today, I had hardly heard of the guy. Yes, "Good riddance" was harsh. "I won't miss him" would probably be a better statement to make.

From what I read about the guy, he didn't seem like a very responsible human being, and his music does nothing for me but annoy. To read "Rhett hates black people" into such a statement is asinine, and I resent anyone doing so.

I don't think a guy with a drug problem who indiscriminately fucks and impregnates women is a responsible human being, nor do I think such a person is representative of black or white people.

But of course you idiots like to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my head that don't exist, all for the purpose of goading me and trying to stir up controversy in hopes of making your boring little lives more interesting.

haha, this post is funny.

Well ODB did drive up to the welfare office in a limo, if you ever listened to his music you would understand the type of person he was. Yes, i did see the MTV special that day.

Secondly, I think Rhett is funny, he has all right to not like black people. If you continue to feed into his statements then he is getting what he wants.

ODB was a funny rapper, nothing more nothing less. For people that try to judge his character would only do so by juding his stage persona. Most people fail to realize that he did alot of charity work for inner city NY kids. But of course you wont see this on CNN or MTV. As far as him not being a good father, I know tons of musicians that arent around their kids often, does that not make them a good father?

 I dont know...hmmmm...
