So it occurred to me, that all the bands that have had a large affect on my life disentergrate almost immediately there after. In high school, I hear a Concrete Blond song on the radio, and thought they were the best band ever. As soon as it was over, the DJ said they just broke up. (they did get back together obviously) ATDI changed my life, and soon split. Rival School's United By Fate might be the greatest album I own, ad they split before I saw them play. I just had a friend burn me two Elliot Smith Cd's earlier this month, and fell in love with him. Need I say more.....

You're not a jinx for Rival Schools, I can tell you that much.
Walter Schreifels is an amazing artist, but his list of bands that were bitchen and then disbanded just got one band longer. Gorilla Bisquits, Quicksand and now Rival Schools. He's already playing with a new band Walter and the Motorcycles (I think) and I'm sure they're great. They won't be Rival Schools because Ian was an amazing guitar player, but check them out and you miss Rival Schools that much.
When I called my bro about RS, he said "Haven't heard, but it wouldn't shock me. I'm sure he's already on to a new project."
By the way, I'm stoked you like RS - I didn't know anybody else on this board liked them. While they've enjoyed a lot of success in England, the Brits on this board follow more pop and less punk from back home.

I love the Gorilla Bicuits! Unfortunate name though....They are the only band from the late 80's NY hardcore scene that I ever really really liked...and years later I still listen to them on my IPOD from time to time. I saw them play at the Safari Club once and I swear I'm in one of the live pictures on the liner notes of Start Today.
Never heard Quicksand or Rival Schools. I hardly ever listen to any hardcore at all anymore. Gorilla Biscuits is just one of those bands that held up for me for some reason.

Quicksand is pretty good too, a bartender at Bedrock Billiards (btw the best jukebox in town) told me i had to listen to them. They don't have the teaspoon of pop that Rival Schools has, er, had. I heard about Walter and the Motorcycles, assumed it was a side project. Alas...

Quicksand and RS were not nearly as hardcore as Gorilla Busquits.
I saw GB in Hollywood a couple years back. It was time to hang it up....

Hey redsock, I have some bands for you to like...
-
Are you cursed??? With a name like "redsock" what do you think?
BTW, can you become a fan of the following for me please;
The Vines
The Hives
The Strokes
Thank you.
I would add Andrew WK to the list but after hearing a couple of interviews with him he's just in it for the laugh and doesn't take himself serious, which I like, even though I don't like his music.

I always got 'it' but his fans didn't, they're the ones who took him seriously...having heard him on the radio I just think he'd be a good laugh to go out on the piss with.
Also in that group'
Shaun Ryder
NOEL Gallagher
Paul Heaton
Shane MacGowan

Oddly enough, I met my girlfriend because we were both at the same Vines show, though we only talked about it the next day.

After reading NKOTBIE's announcement, I'll put him at the top of my list!

Could the curse of Redsock be the reason Elliott Smith killed himself?

I am lucky I found out about Elliott Smith when I did. I even got to see Heatmister at the Black Cat on the old back stage, with Brendan Benson no less. I never got to meet Elliott but saw him a few times. Easily one of the most gifted songwriters I've ever heard.
