So who else is going to see the Greatest Unheralded Band in the Land on Sunday?

i'll be there. i really like meadowlands a lot.
-
I shall be there, missing the mighty Overkill Creek to do so, the meadowlands truly is a great album and what I have heard of them live makes me think this will be a great show.
-
I'm out for the DC show, but I may be catching them tomorrow in NYC. Haven't quite decided yet, since I'm painfully broke right now.
-
I'll be there. I love The Meadowlands!
I think this will be another packed in the Backstage night.
+/- aren't bad either.
-
Okay, last call for tonight's show with The Wrens.
Anyone else?
If you are on the fence, I highly advice that you not miss this show. Get there early enough too to see +/-, another good band.
-
I'll be at this one.
-
of course!
-
love them both (both are played on xm 43 :(
-
Aw, Paige! Can't you get in on an industry guest list or something? It's only $7.

One of the best shows of the year, if they had a little better sound, especially with the vocals on a couple of songs it would have been one of the best shows I have ever seen.
+/- were pretty good for the first 3 or 4 songs, then went mediocre.
-
Fantastic show!!!! I knew from The Meadowlands album that they were a bunch of songbirds but what I didn't know is that.....they fucking rock their feathers off!!!!! Anyone who wasn't there missed a great show.
They are also very nice, appreciative, and funny guys. Hope to see them back in the area soon. The Backstage was packed and everyone of the people in the crowd were loving them.
Pollard was right on too about +/-. They are very good until they get lost in their more aharmonious songs. Sadly, they took a wrong turn after their very best song and it was downhill from there.
-
I concur. The Wrens wrocked the hizzouse.
It was nice to see how they translated all the idiosyncracies of their albums into a live setting. Great energy and they seemed genuinely happy to be playing in front of a live audience. Hope they come down again soon.

Great show -- what a night for me. I missed +/- because I was at the Duran Duran show at the Warner, which was just awesome. All the retro cheese you can imagine, and those songs are still as fun as ever -- say what you will, boardie hipsters. ;) Sorry, John Taylor is still the hottest guy playing an instrument (while Simon is verging on self-parody with the "sexy" hip thrusts!).
Then we got to see the whole Wrens show, and it was great -- once I finally got up on the bench and could see! Those guys were thrilled to have so many folks come out on a sunday night. And I did what I could to make sure they knew how happy the crowd was as well -- my bench dancing even got me a big pointer from the manic bassist/keyboardest/song stylist during the encore! So glad I was on the West Coast half the week and hence all full of energy for two shows last night.
Whew.

Fantastic show.
-
So, any way we can get the Cat to build a slightly higher stage for the back room? When that place is crowded, I can't see at ALL, and I'm 5' 9", which is pretty average.
-
I think the show last night (like the Decemberists show) should have been upstairs.

I wonder how much more money they make by selling out the backstage compared to a small crowd upstairs. If there is not much of a difference I don't understand why they don't just move shows like that upstairs when it looks like it will be full.

Funny, I was thinking exactly the same thing last night.
My guess is that there is also a major problem with changing rooms at the last minute because of a whole host of reasons from resetting up of the stage to getting enough staff upstairs. But I bet there is a difference in contract negotiations.
Well, we know their return will be upstairs. It has to be after last night. Was cool though in such an intimate space.

ah, I boycotted this show for this very reason, I knew it would be way too packed down there. Maybe it would have been a little more effective if I told other people about the boycott plan though. Actually I got Sopranos Season 4 Disc 1 from Netflix and was feeling lazy. Sounds like I missed a good time
-
Yeah, selfishly I agree, although, with less than 125 people (just my guess), it's expensive for the club. The backstage was NOT sold out, and that's at just $7 a pop. On a Sunday.
I think it's a lot more expensive to run upstairs...
That being said, the stage needs to be higher and they have to do a better job of air-conditioning in the back room for well-sold shows.
FYI, definitely fewer people last night than the Decemberists. I was at the back for both shows.

I prefer being and a packed show in the back room to a 1/4 full show upstairs...it seems too cavernous. Mike Watt asked to be backstage last time he came for that reason.
The stage could be a little higher, though. And the raised platform on the left doesn't help because it is raised all the way to the stage (so everyone in front if you is also up at your height) plus it in effect lowers the stage.
-
I personally prefer upstairs. Even upstairs empty can be great. Lambchop and cinerama were beautiful perhaps because it was not too full. The sound system is great upstairs and mediocre down.
I hate that raised step bit downstairs. Everytime I know it is there. Everytime I trip over it.
-
One of the reasons I like downstairs shows is that the band is basically right at the level of the audience.

How did you escape from the dwarve abduction. I thought once that little guy got his legs wrapped around your neck that you were a gonner.....
I mean its ok near the front, but if the band is short you look them right in the eye from like a foot away. That is a bit creepy for me, plus when I say this band sucks, its more likely the band can hear me than Jadetree.
