Title: HFSmas Nutcracker 2003
Post by: imaginarycolors on November 08, 2003, 04:25:00 pm
The time has come..the HFSmas Nutcracker 2003! Predictions on what will be the lineup are on!
I know one band that's gonna be there although I don't really care much for them: Chevelle

 Any others?

today while driving through the lovely batlimore city traffic... i heard an hfs commercial like where they play tidbits of songs.. and i heard a little bit of the cure, which made me tune in more and then i noticed they had played a little clip from a system of a down song right before.. and a few other songs but i didnt hear them but.. you know how normally they do that as just a promo of songs you can hear on the station? well, after it this time it says like... wfsmas nutcracker (however you spell it) and i was just like hmmmmm?? did anyone else hear this? it was like listen in tomorrow for all the details, but i wonder why they would play little clips of that? maybe making up for the cancellation this past fall? any insight? anyone?? i might not have to worry about waking up tomorrow morning to hear the announcement, as i simply just might not fall asleep tonight.
ps, i am not suggesting or assuming, just simply wondering if anyone else heard this promo and what they thought about it.

Last year's was pretty good, with Queens of the Stone Age, Distillers, Zwan, and the almighty Godfather of Soul James Brown, but I don't have high hopes for this year. However, if the cure plays i am so there.  :)

Oh, shit! I know The Cure have gotten themselves together and are on the road again, so just maybe. And it would be just like HFS to book one great band with a load of crap!

I heard that promo as well. It says, "Ghosts of Nutcracker's past" and then goes into the snippets of bands that have played in previous years (Cure, QOTSA, SOAD, etc.).

I think i've read the Korn/Limp Bizkit tour will be hitting Nation on November 23rd, my b-day! But i dunno what happened to it since it kind of disappeared from the Limp Bizkit site so i have no idea what's gonna happen. All I know is, i'll wake up looking at whfs.com tomorrow, that's for sure. And to make some odd connection, I "got" the new Blink-182 album and on track 12 it sounds like the Robert Smith of The Cure is on it but i'm probably wrong but it sounds somewhat like him!

Thats probably cause all new bands sound like old bands. I bet there are fifty groups out there that sound like Robert Smith of The Cure.

It sounds like Robert Smith because it is Robert Smith.....

As far as the line up for the hfs nutcracker, I've "heard" rumours of : korn, staind, hoobastank, chevelle, offspring and blink 182....

For what it's worth, K-Rock (NYC) has announced that "night one" of their holiday festival show (I can't recall the name) will feature Blink 182, Brand New, Linkin Park, and 311.

Bands tend to go up and down the East Coast on these radio festival shows.  For example, I think most acts from the HFS Nutcracker last year also played for K-Rock and the rock station in Philly.  So I would expect at least one of those four to play the Nutcracker.

EDIT:  I just looked it up, "night two" of the event will feature Staind, POD, Offspring, and Chevelle.

Well here's the line up for it:

 Korn
 Blink 182
 Staind
 Chevelle
 Offspring
 AFI
 Hoobstank

It could have been worse if they had limp bizkit..

 MindCage
 Mindless Faith (http://www.mindlessfaith.com)
 Deep6 Productions (http://www.deep6.com)

These package shows are my own personal hell on earth.  Two bands are really all I can hack in one event.  HFS is shit.  All these bands are shit.

I agree.  It's so sad.  When I first moved here, to have an alternative commercial radio station was absolutely mind-blowing.  Alas, now I must turn to the internet.

Where have you guys been? This has been common knowledge for years.

It's especially apparent now. A few months ago, I was in a used CD store that had HFS on (you would think that they would play a CD, after all  used CD store , duh!) and every other utterance by the DJ was "the legendary HFS." Such repetitious first-person self-aggrandizement is the stuff of senility. Grandpa, it's time to retire.

I know it's been the case forever.  I was just remembering those days in the early 90s, coming from hicktown, Florida to a place with a great radio station.  It's been for shit for ages now.

I'm happy I read this... I was about to go figure out where I could get some tickets.  I can find no reason to spend my money on such a pile of shit.   :)  Just my opinion   ;)

The best live band ever....a bold statement coming from a 12 year old.

Actually, I think if they are referencing themselves, that would be third-person aggrandizing. But I get yer point.

I still can't for the life of me figure out why it wouldn't do HFS good to broaden their fanbase a tad.  It wasn't too many years ago that hfs would bring in some bands we half liked to see.  I suppose it is the whole clearchannel, sony/bmg, etc. etc. etc thing.  I'm not saying that HFS can't show a few bands that "suck"... but all of them?  The sad part is that while the choice for most of us is an easy one, there will be legions of people with many too many piercings flocking to a show such as this one.  Generation gap... or just plain ignorance?

ack....it's nice to so though to see that there are people who remember when HFS used to be a damn good radio station, and not the load of crap that it is today

I personally miss WXRT in Chicago...WHFS played some good stuff too, but in an hour on WXRT you used to hear everything from Bob Mould to Little Feat to Pop Will Eat Itself to the Clash to Patti Smith to Warren Zevon. It was a fantastic station back in the day. I didn't always like everything they played, but at least they had programs like the Big Beat (showcasing indie rock). That's how I discovered Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, etc. before majors had touched any of them. Not to mention every Sunday night they would broadcast a concert recorded from a couple of months earlier. I recorded a Pixies show and that was it for me. It opened the floodgates to so much other music that I still treasure today. Long live WXRT.

i also think hfs should branch out, but nothing can save them now.  but remember what we think doesn't matter this concert will do fine, its perfectly mainstream shit.
its only downfall is a lot of ppl will not go cuz its a thursday.
