The entire thread is phenomenal.
And 2 + 2 is a great poker resource / publisher.

Steve is the real deal, I met him briefly in December during ATP Nightmare before Christmas where we (rather large group of writers, fans, artists, etc) shared a table for a meal and for a guy with such prodigious talent he was much like his writing in these threads very articulate, broad grasp of a myriad of subjects, and phuckin hilarious. It's a common refrain to say that a musician you admire "is really cool" when you actually meet them and they're not a straight up asshole, but he does really warrant it. He's a really phuckin geniune guy, right along the lines of Thurston Moore, et al in the pantheon of artists doing it the right way....

as econo might say, "that thread delivers". highly recommended reading. i didn't think albini could get much higher in my esteem - but he has.

I heart him. Next time I see Shellac, I'll try not to yell at him b/c he didn't play the f'ing kill him song.
Really loving the new record as well.

I grew up across the street from Steve...what is so incredibly bizarre is that he mentions a comedian in his thread that shares my last name, and it's NOT a common last name. Would be hilarious if he was talking about my father, and given his babbling incoherence, I'm sure Steve would have thought he actually WAS a comedian.
I have a lot of great Steve stories. For the most part he kept to himself, but his roommate when he first moved in was Nash Kato from Urge Overkill, and he had plenty of run-ins with my other neighbor, Mrs. Braun. When they first moved in, they set up a studio in the basement but had to do some MAJOR soundproofing before they got it right. In the end, the parade of bands that came to that house was just insane...everyone from Bailter Space to the Jesus Lizard to Jawbreaker to the Breeders. Then there was the time my mom met PJ Harvey...

Ha ha...it really is a pretty insane story though. I love my mom for many reasons, but getting me PJ's autograph is truly one of the coolest things she has ever done for me.
