Okay, my Applecare has run out, and I am having a bitch of a time. Firefox quits about about every 20 minutes.... My Itunes went through some kind of odd "wipeout" -- I have my files on an external drive, so they were all there (only half were in iTunes when it 'restored' itself, but I got them all back). All playlists, lost.
I'm on an iMac desktop from late 2002. Is my computer telling me it's dying? Am I going to have to upgrade to OS 10.3.9 for fucking $150? Is Firefox "buggy"?
It can't die on me, not now, LuLu just extorted all my free cash from me!!!!!

There are experts on this board who can offer way more help than I can (which you'll see is no help at all), but I am on an iMac using Firefox and I find I have less problems than I do at work with a PC and a T1 line with all the available tech help.
Maybe it's the Ram in your iMac? I dunno. Good luck. Wish I could offer more info.

When using firefox on my iMac, I found that it has quit. I do have a habit of having too many tabs open along with other programs. Firefox never quits on my PC at work.

I would try re-installing your OS. If you have an external drive I would back up all your files on it first.
I have Mac OS 10.4.2 in my hands right now....
I use Safari all the time. Try it.

I had the same Firefox problems on my G4 iMac. Finally just gave up. Safari is a better browser in my view anyway. I know the cost is kinda outrageous, but upgrading to Tiger (10.4) not only gives you more options, it makes the older iMacs run smoother.

Sounds like the thing to do is go for 10.4, eh? Oy, but if I need to, I need to (I just don't know why this new problem has cropped up).
-
Yeah Bags go for 10.4.2. (I can give you mine (Oh, errr) this weekend or post it to you and it will get there Monday)
If you can do a clean install, that is the best way to go. You may or may not have underlying problems but doing a clean install (wiping everything from your computer) is the normal first step for ill macs.

i find on the ancient G4 at home, that firefox and safari both have a tendency to hang/choke on sites with flash ads... allmusic.com's fancy rotating graphic caused problems. many of the banner ads on myspace.com especially those ads for "free" smilies bring things to a crawl. i've tried unintalling/reinstalling/updating flash with little success.

Flash is a really obnoxious thing.

I'm shocked!
I was under the distinct impression that Macs were perfect creations, immune to all problems.

If your operating system defines your lifestyle, you've got problems.
