Anyone? I'm getting nothing but icy ambiguity from everyone about this show even though I've heard Elefant's quite good live.
-
I'm going with some friends; I enjoyed the last Elefant show -- Diego's a hoot.
I'd like to see Alcian Blue, but can't get there that early.
Any word on Hail Social?
-
I'm really interested to hear Alcian Blue as well, so I'm going to check them out. I'm dragging a bunch of co-workers along who have never been to the Black Cat.
No word on Hail Social, but what I've read looks promising.
-
alcian blue is excellent ... but a word to the wise, you might want to bring some earplugs, at least for their set. VERY LOUD.
-
i'm thinking about it...but i'm sorta poor and should be saving my money for my trip to prague in a couple weeks

remember, what happens in praha stays in praha, eh, econo?
-
Yes, it should. And the Becherovka that I drank there should have stayed in my stomach.
Have a good trip MaLo. Apparently the tea houses are exceptional if you're into that sort of thing.
Did anybody go out and check the rock band that played at the Czech embassy last week? My girlfriend and I went. The music wasn't so hot, but there was free Pilsner Urquell and mulled wine!
-
I may go, but it will probably be a last minute decision.

dude, you need to tell me about these things. . .if only i could find staropramen in the states.
-
The band that played, Praszky Vyber, wasn't that good. But it was rather interesting. The singer was a member of the Czech Parliament after the Communists were ousted.
-
I haven't had any Staropramen, but I drink Urquell all the time. They've got it at the store down the street from me. They used to have it over at the Big Hunt on tap, I believe.

Im going with my mom, so i don't think its going to be THAT wild...but who knows

When I say Tea Houses, I mean Tea like Lipton, not like Kerouac. Oh, and I meant MaLo earlier.

Does anyone know what time Elefant is expected to come on tonight?
Thanks,
-r

There are 2 bands now.....
doors at 8.30
the rest is a guess,
my guess is 9.30 and then 10.30 for elefant. But who really knows?
-
so did anyone go?
was the show good?
-
elefant did indeed come on around 10.30, maybe 10.25. They left the stage at 11.04 and did not come back for an encore.
The whole band and Diego looked completely disinterested last night. It was pretty disappointing compared to their last 2 D.C. shows. It will be hard for me to justify going to see them again.
-
he also needed a really good wash.......
i think the band just appeared to be really disinterested they did perk up a little bit when they sang their new songs.......
but it's been a long time since i've gone to a show where the band wants to leave before i do...............

That cute little pink and grey ruffled scarf that looked so avant-garde a year and a half ago now looks pretty gross and must be stinkin'.

-
when I was there in 92 (god, I'm getting old) I enjoyed the beer at this place (http://www.ufleku.cz/en/) (although by the looks of the website its become a fair bit more touristy since then

Good to know I won by going to bed at 10:00 last night instead of the show (rough week; needed the sleep...).
-
heh... I felt like a lAm3 d<><>d by staying home instead of slinking by the Black Cat, but now I don't feel so lame. Oh well, you win a few and lose a few, right? :D

my hotel was right next door to ufleku. it's very touristy, but they make their own beer. if i was drinking, i was drinking at the marquis de sade (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2772693-marquis_de_sade_prague-i). there are a few other bars in that general area as well.

I went to Prague with a German friend who spent the whole time bitching and moaning about all the stupid Americans who go there simply to drink rather than appreciate the culture.

heh... if he's German, he has no room to bitch. They are known worldwide as the world's most obnoxious tourists.

During my many tours of Central Europe including living there for extended periods of time, I came to discover that you can learn substantially more from the folks in the pub about a country's culture then you can from any tours or sightseeing.

the times that i've been in europe, i've always found the young australian tourists to be the most obnoxious out there
-
It was a she, not a he, and I forgot the mention that she bitched about the other Germans right along with bitching about Americans.
Not someone that I'm friends with anymore, guess I was too much of an American.
