Title: Forum Holiday Party
Post by: Bags on November 17, 2004, 04:50:00 pm
So, what's up with this?  Anything in the works?  I missed last year's, but will be around through Dec 23 this year.  And damn if there aren't all that many shows I'm gonna be catchin'   :D   So, I think a party with lots of freebies is a must.

I think I was there.  Too many tickets, way too many tickets...

If I am in the area at the time (vacation you know) I will be there.  Hopefully not working...

Hook up an X-Box live so I can be there by proxy.  And Markie really enjoys laughing at me while he kills me too, so you've got that going for you.  A happy Markie is a fun Markie.

Nope, two years ago I was telling my friends, "well, the 9:30 club board is a great source of information, but I'm not interested in posting anything up there myself.  And NO way would I want to meet any of those people.  I don't need that, no, I think they're mostly pretty odd and they like to talk in pirate lingo."

Oooo!  Can we have a secret satan?  Please?  How about a homemade secret satan, where you have to make the gift you give?

 That would be really neato.

I didn't say it had to be a knit gift-- though I wouldn't be against that.  It could be drawn, folded, baked, mixed (hello, drinks!), sculpted, beaded, sewn, cooked, painted, beaten...

If it's baked, then lets make a blanket rule here.  No walnuts in brownies.  Seriously, who started that trend.

I think it was Rhett - yeah the whole nuts and chocolate together thing does nothing for me, hate nuts in cookies too

Thank you!
Jammin Java has the best browines, but I have to pick all of the nuts out. They tell me it's impossible to find brownies w/o nuts. Fudge w/ nuts sucks.

I love nuts.
Why else do you think I hang out on this board?   :D

 Pre-Pixies is a bad idea.
 1. Way too early for many of us who could not make it.
 2. There are 2 different nights which might cause some problems for some for a variety of good reasons. Not everyone is free to roam out at any given time.
 3. Way too short!

I think we should have this party on 12/10 - 12/11. The omens point to an excellent night of music and tomfoolery, not to mention talking about people behind their back.

Weekend of the 18th sounds good to me (assuming I'm cool enough to make the guest list).  ;)

The weekend of the 10th is out for me (going to see Portland OR to see The Weakerthans, Arcade Fire, and Fembots - a triple bill of sweet Canuck-ness!! Sonick! Book a flight  ;) ).

I'm just an intervention waiting to happen.

By the way, everyone that missed the Dogs Die in Hot Cars show last night....kudos to you! You're much smarter than I was.

I'm around and mostly free until Dec 22 -- though the 18th I'm off to B'more for the Wrens (which leads me to feel pretty certain that if there's a forum party, it'll be the 18th...that's just the way it goes for me!)

Not for me! Can't do a weeknight in December at all. Same reason that I couldn't go to last year's.   :(   Extremely busy month for us and being in health care, we never close.

The 18th would still be ideal for me. As much as I love The Wrens, it's not the whole band and would be willing to forfeit Charles for the party. Besides, I'll be in Bethesda on the day of the 18th anyway for my other job.

What about all of the others? Would like to have some idea for scheduling purposes.

Wow, at my first job we had to decorate the door for christmas.  I did Bill the Cat passed out in front of the fire.  It looked good, it didn't win though.

Next year just set up a speaker that wished everyone who walked by the door a merry christmas, with a bah humbug every fourth time.

It looks like there are various things going on in the area on Saturday. And some people will be out of town. I propose that we have the Forum Party after Jan. 1 to celebrate the New Year? Anyone with me on that?

i think the fact that everyone thought their non availability for certain dates,  made a huge deal to the club.......as it is it should be off.......

if we really want a get together......... here's a thought................ we could organise it ourselves.....but then again none of us really like each other..........so why bother?

'tis a shame.

But deciding that the club should throw us a holiday party was rather presumptuous in the first place.

Good question. I was thinking of going to the show...Never heard anything by the band but it sounds like something I might like.

You're never going to get concensus with this many people. Someone (hello List Moderators!!!) is just going to have to pick a date and go with it. It's better to have a few people there than not do it at all. And we don't need to make it anything big - just a chance for us to put faces to the names (IMHO).

Well allrighty then!
December got a little hectic, so if nobody sees anything too wrong with January,  I would like to suggest we run with the idea of having our little soiree in that cold and less hectic month...
The 15th looks like it would be a good day for it but go deliberate and send Kosmo back to us with a verdict.

Lst years forum party was the same night as Boogie Down Productions. The date you are proposing is the same date as this show:

MN8 Presents a MLK Weekend Celebration featuring Raheem DeVaughn & Fertile Ground
 w/ Donnie

Is the 9:30 Club using forum holiday parties to fulfill some sort of "white people quota" for hte evening?

Then again, maybe we have scores of Donnie fans on the board.

no forum party this weekend, i dropped the ball on this one and didn't report back promptly enough to those behind the curtain. i guess it's the stocks for me. blame it on the gamecube... Other dates are currently being batted around. if you are looking for something to do Sat, swing by Iota.
