Wondering who's hitting this at 9:30 Club on Sunday. I have shows Monday & Tuesday, so haven't decided if I can make a Sunday night show as well.
-
is it sold out?
-
Not yet...if it sells out, that's my answer. Kind of why I'm trying to figure this out today so I can get over to the box office. A $25 ticket is one that should be used (versus a $10, say, which leaves more room ofr missing the show).
-
me me! and 242 Monday.
-
Dandy, are you a big Warhols fan?
-
i hope that's rhetorical.
-
It ends up I can't make the show - if anybody wants two tickets at a discounted rate please see my post in the ticket exchange section of the forum.

How was the opening band the Out Crowd? Worth checking out at Millenium Stage for free?

I, personally, didn't think they were anything special (saw the Raleigh show), but they weren't bad. I suppose if you have nothing else to do you should see if you like them, but I felt they were pretty par for the course.

Didn't see the openers... but I will tell you that the Dandy Warhols played a long ass set... I got there at 10pm and they had started... they didn't get done until almost midnight. Was all a bit hit and miss. A lot of the new stuff doesn't sound great live. The band seemed to have a good time on stage; but I was bored a lot of the time.

did they play the ultra long version of a fast driving rave up? I am trying to decide whether or not to go here in Portland but am haunted by the memory of boredom at the last dc show as they finished playing that shit for the last what seemed like 45 minutes

Pretty sure they didn't... if they did, I must have been asleep for it. There were some really long tracks (~7-9 mins) though, so be warned.

I thought the show was great. A perfect mellow end to a long holiday weekend.
They didn't play Fast Driving Rave-up, but they did end the main set with one of the longer spacier jams from the new album.

'Love is the new feel awful' was that last track I think. Probably my fave from the new album.

that's rarely a good thing. :(

They did play a very rocking rendition of "Little Drummer Boy." I thought this show was better than the last time they were in DC and at 930. I also really like the Outcrowd. For fans of the Dandys or the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Dandys rocked out last night, crowd never really got into it. I think Courtney's nonchalantness emanates through their audience. I heard they get pretty high/drunk and mess up live shows but that didnâ??t happen.
-
I personally enjoyed the show despite the deadness of the crowd. Plus we were next to a rather rowdy bunch. The xmas encore was a nice surprise. There were some slower parts which helped to mix up the set with the more rocking tunes I thought. I also liked the psychedelic background visuals of women and men gyrating. And we gotta give it to Courtney for keeping us entertained while Zia kept running out to do her business. Not complaining about the nice length of the set either. Since I didn't make the last sold-out show, I can't compare the two.
-
I thought it was a nice treat to see a two hour set. DC crowds seem to be pretty subdued. Which is kind of a bummer when going to see shows here. It is always nice when the crowd and band get moving. I wish I knew what that was all about. I grew up in DC in the area in the late 80s before moving west in the 90s. The DC scene then seemed pretty burgeoning and rowdy. A lot of fun. This is by no means a rip on DC, I just wish I could figure that out. Granted this is a generalization from one perspective. So take it all with a grain of salt. I also enjoyed the outcrowd and think I will try and get over to see them at the Millenium stage today at 6:00 pm. I hope the Clutch show proves to be raucous.
-
I also really enjoyed this show. For the most part the crowd appeared at the activity level of organ donor. This was very disappointing. Most everyone there stopped even bobbing when anything from "Come Down" was played, like they never heard of that album.
Glad they didn't play Junkie, but was hoping for Hard on for Jesus or Down like Disco.
The people next to my friend and I really were getting into it too, and we had a really good spot up against a bar so we just jumped around and tried to ignore the low energy level.
The frontman for the Out Crowd was in BJM and it was kind of like BJM without the fights. I enjoyed the Out Crowd and they were a pretty tight band.
At a lot of shows I've been to down here, the artist seems to pick up on the crowd's lack of enthusiasm and it shows in their performance.
Last night the Warhols kept going for a full 2 hours and the mellow stuff gave me a break to swig my beer and chill out before some of the faster tracks.
-
And they're nice folks too. Here's a story from th Atlanta show that probably made a B/day even better. From the BJM board, of all places :D i saw the show friday night in atlanta...both bands were great...all of
my band and our girlfriends/wives went and also our guitar player's son
whose 13th birthday was that day...matt hollywood hung out and watched
the dandys with us and was really cool...hadn't met him before...he
gave my friends son a cd and had the rest of the band and himself sign
it and wish him happy birthday...his keyboardist/tamborine player,
sarah jane, was also really nice...then during the dandy's show,
christian ( friend's son) got to sit on the stage right in front of
peter...afterwards he gave christian the pick he was using plus the set
list...then made a special trip backstage to get everyone to sign it
for him...peter has been super cool and nice every time i've met him,
and more importantly, he and the outcrowd made christians birthday
about as perfect as it could've been...he's been playing guitar for
about two years now and can play a bunch of their songs, so him meeting
peter and matt, and having them be so cool and going out of their way
to make his night great meant a lot to all of us...and surely made it a
night that christian will never forget...so thanks to those
people...and once again the show kicked ass!
mark
Nice to see it isn't always ego and pretension. I'm sure that will leave quite a memory for the birthday boy.

Yeah I was lobbying loud for Hard On For Jesus, Courtney heard me and said he forgot the cords ..? I also had a good spot down below near the bar. I think they were charging me $15 a piece for Yeager bombs.

Seriously? $15 for a two, or for a single? Wow.
-

Anyone seeing Depeche Mode/Bravery in Fairfax? Coldplay at the MCI Center? Good times.

Maybe I'm spelling it wrong but:
1 glass of Red Bull
1 shot of yeigermiester/yeagermiester.
Drop the shot and bottoms up.

Why would you drink something you don't even know how to spell?

they also completely forgot Plan A! which would've been cool to hear, eh.
I'll be at DM next Friday. I'm over Coldplay frankly.
-
Zia mentioned the Dandy's TV Theme Song -- which would have been great to hear.

Spelling is not a prerequisite for consumption.
Besides, you can't spell football and that doesn't seem to be stopping you. :p

well better late than never. didnt see the dandys in dc, but saw them earlier in SF. if you can see them in portland, you should definitely see them. SF is a whole different crowd than DC. great crowd, lots of dancing, courtney & company clearly were having a good time. they played grunge betty, but no rave-up. it was a pretty normal set list, minus the encore, which never happened. instead we got zia dancing, while courtney was doing some rap improv. it was quite funny. off the top of my head, played were ride, grunge betty, boho, junkie, get off, new new country (very slow), holding me up, hells bells, and im sure other stuff i cant think of at the moment.
the outcrowd were very much worth seeing. they were beyond happy to be playing at the fillmore. the crowd was really into them. the band was hanging out in the crowd while the dandys played. met sarah jane who is quite lovely. she gave me a big hug and kiss. :D
anyway for me, it was one of the best dandys show i had ever seen. :D didnt care for their last DC show, but really loved their nyc show. this tour only caught sf so far but was beyond impressed. well worth checking them out in their hometown, but it seems its surely going to be sold out if its not already.
it probably helped that i got to see courtney and fathead play an acoustic show earlier in the day, thanks to a dj friend at live 105. then got to meet fathead and got pics etc. so my day was already top-notch before the show even began. and besides theres nothing like the folks of SF. so friendly!

went to the last show of the tour here in portland, far better than the show in dc a couple of years ago, similar setlist to the one posted above, add Horse Pills
there sure was a lot of smoking going on for a nonsmoking venue, and it smelled yummy
