Could someone tell me at the recent Jason Mraz/Liz Phair concert, who was the main act and who opened? Thank you.
-
it was co-headlining, but Liz Phair played before Jason Mraz.
-
And though it was a co-headline show, she played for less than an hour, and he played and played and played......
I was going to look up set lists of her recent shows without him to see if she plays longer. Has anyone checked it out?
And has anyone noticed how friggin' omnipresent Mraz is now that you know who he is?
-
wHO IS MRAZ? I MEAN, I'VE SEEN HIS NAME. BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD ANY OF HIS SONGS.
COME TO THINK IF IT, I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY OF THE NEW LIZ PHAIR, SAVE FOR THE ONE TIME SHE WAS ON THE TONIGHT SHOW.

He's this yucky new Dave Matthews-lite "singer/wongwriter" who wears a red baseball cap (sideways/a-kilter, no less) and is everywhere once you're aware of him.

Jason Mraz's Waiting for My Rocket to Come is a two-part invention. The first level is that of a young, almost compelling, singer/songwriter. Mraz has a nice voice, perhaps a little too articulated at times, which manages to mostly avoid the histrionic despite a predilection towards show tuney melodic turns. His voice tumbles out on top of folk-reggae rhythms that will probably sound a bit dated with time, but his vocals are filled with enough internal rhythms and rhymes to keep them interesting. Lyrically, Mraz relies on cliché to a certain degree, but does so with an earnestness that allows for believability and an eye for imagery that succeeds often enough to suggest that he knows what he's doing. The second level of Waiting for My Rocket to Come is the production of John AlagÃa, whose work has enhanced other similar folk-pop fair, including the Dave Matthews Band and O.A.R. His work with Mraz is, at its best, transparent, filling out the songs with subtle and glossy production and instrumentation. Reflections of banjos, organs, mellotrons, lap steels, ukuleles, and others peak out through the shine of the tunes, creating an impact too rich to be written off as lite. â?? Jesse Jarnow

I will try to remember to bring in Liz's set list tomorrow. She did get to do an encore with "Flower" so I guess that is the co-headlining thing.
I am bummed that I missed the motorcycle across the stage during Mraz's set.

Well she came out and did that song solo. Kind of left stage first. Guess it is a close call to say she left/returned quickly or if she didn't leave.

I didn't even hear about the motorcycle onstage! We were all in the back bar arguing over the Liz portion of the show.

The soundman for Liz Phair had a motorcycle in the trailer on tour with them, and somehow cajoled the 9:30 manager to set it up so they could race it across the stage. If you heard Motley Crue's "Girls Girls Girls" that is when it happened. I was vegging and so missed it (Jason just got too dooby-dooby-doo for me).
-
getting that bike onstage was no easy task. it was the liz phair crew's way of saying goodbye to the tour.

Yeah, and Chad didn't ask for help from us...
Found Liz's set list for the 9:30 show, looks similar to one from the last time she played but I have misplaced that one so I can not be sure:
6'1"
Polyester Bride
Rock me
Divorce Song
Help me Mary
Extraordinary
Fuck and Run
Favorite Underwear
Johnny Feelgood
Why can't I
Red Light
Supernova
Flower

My friend gave me a free ticket to see the show. I thought that Liz would be the headliner. She played a great set (~45 minutes). "Flower" wasn't really an encore; she just waited for her band mates to walk off the stage.
The motorcycle stunt was the highlight of the show, for me. The crowd didn't seem to enjoy it, however. He put on a good show, but 2+ hours is too long when you only have one album

i love jason and you shouldn't judge him by his studio recorded shit, download some old stuff and you'll understand why he can play a 2 hour set and still have people entranced.
-
I listened to a couple of his songs at that show. Not my cup of tea, even live.
