The Walkmen were just announced as the Headliner for MACROCK! the conference in Harrisonburg, VA, and there are a bunch of other really good bands on the bill.

-
it's two hours from DC, but it's a whole weekend conference, and check out the line up thus far.
The Walkmen
The Wrens
Aloha
Voxtrot
Irving
Owen
Jonah (from onelinedrawing, new end original, far)
William Elliott Whitmore
Saxon Shore
Fin Fang Foom
Rah Bra's
Haram
Ris Paul Ric
Medications
Hail Social
Bright
Black Moth Super Rainbow
The Snake The Cross The Crown
plus a bunch of metal, hardcore and spazz bands.
there are like 100 bands that play the conference every year. I'd say it's worth it, plus it's a huge college town so there's always a lot of booze around town.. i go every year. it's a blast.
-
oh, and did i mention MACROCK is non profit.. run by volunteers.. and a ticket for the whole freaking weekend is only 25 bucks.
-
dude. that Saturday is the first day of my break. and i'm going to be around...what day do the walkmen play; does anyone know yet?
-

The Walkmen are from BK NY i think. I think people on here will enjoy them.
MACROCK is def. very cool. I went when I went there, and even still go down since I left.
I love it everytime.

The Walkmen must have the worst agent of all time. They play in the most obscure places. Theyre better than the crap venues they play at.

agreed; but i don't like Bows & Arrows nearly as much as i've grown to like Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me...
-
I love both albums. I think the reason it wasnt a bigger hit is they have no marketing muscle or a booking agent worth a damn behind them. Hell, the only time Ive ever seen em play was at a friggin high school. I know it was a special occasion but thats the type of stuff they play.
They need better bookings. They shouldnt have to play in crap bars in WEST Columbia, SC. But thats the type of stuff they do. Dont get it.
-
They haven't had a new record in 2 years. Maybe they should focus on that and try to draw a little interest. Maybe then they'd get better gigs.

I like The Walkmen, but I've heard they're not so great live. I'd go to see The Wrens though...
-
I've never seen the walkmen, i'm pretty amped. and as far as playing in smaller, weirder venues... i dunno.. i kind of like that about macrock.. i mean, FUGAZI a few years ago.

Fugazi and D-Plan, same night. That was great.

I've been disappointed with The Walkmen shows in the past but then I saw them at Lolla last year and they impressed me. It was a tight, exciting set. I've only been to Macrock once, but it was fun. I'd go again.
