I was thinking of getting Tivo. I know what it does, is it worth $13 a month though?

Probably got google eyes from watching too much T.V.?

Well, i just got it. And you don't have to pay $13 a month if you just want to use it as a vcr, with the ability to tape no more than 3 days in advance. You get that for free. However, there are apparently a lot of cool features for the $13. I'm trying it out to see what my needs are. I actually bought a DVd player with tivo built in, from best buy with two rebates its only $99. I was pretty happy.

I saw them in best buy for $100, but I chose a cheap progresive scan DVD player this time, to match up with my new big T.V.
I didnt know you could avoid subscription..... umm, that may be handy.

Well, if you believe all of the geeks I work with it will "change the way you watch TV". For me, a VCR does just fine for those rare times I need to record something. Otherwise, less TV is better IMO.

i could be wrong on this one... but i think you can only avoid the sub if you only buy one of the dvd recorder/tivo combo units...

Tivo is absolutely the greatest
couldn't live without it

I saw this player. Not sure if I like the 3 day advance feature.

If you have a highspeed Internet connection at home, I recommend a ReplayTV instead of TiVo, but you'll want to pick up a ReplayTV 50x0 model on eBay. If you buy one of the new 55xx models, sharing shows over the Internet has been disabled (courtesy of Hollywood lawyers).

Once you go TiVo, it's hard to go back to ever watching TV without it. You'll get hooked, but you'll love it.

I just download the shows that I happened to miss. God bless divX and Bittorrent! I have an ATI All in Wonder Video Card and the software to essentially make my computer a DVR, but unfortunately there isn't a coax hookup in the room where I keep my computers...

TiVo is god.
I could not imagine living without it, it's taping 24/7, i think i have 90-100 season passes set up ... come home, watch the daily show, PTI, whatever ... start football games 45 mins late and never see a commercial or half-time or reviews ...
I actually watch less TV now that I have tivo, because I watch what I want to.
Plus, taping music videos is the hidden key to tivo ... tape 6 hour blocks on MTV2 and watch what you want to ... plus you can get subterranean and keep like 10 episodes, listen to/watch whatever you want whenever ...
