Dear Friends,
BLISS is proud to present a special, Friday night Mainstage dance event with live performance at 11:00 p.m. by Norwegian pop sensation ANNIE!
Annie is pure pop with suss and style--smart as a whip and irresistible as gravity. Don't miss this very special Mainstage edition of Bliss, with live performance by Annie (with full band), guest DJ Sad and DJ Will Eastman.

BLISS is a monthly dance party in the heart of the Nation's capital dedicated to attractively alarming new music, indie dance, disco punk, tech-funk (and the occasional disturbingly alluring pop classic).

i love Annie dearly, but can't do two shows in a row this weekend.
tell her to come back soon!

The only thing that will keep me away from Bliss is Avian Influenza!
I'm really hoping you guys will play some Super Insurgent Group of Intemperance Talent (http://www.myspace.com/thesigit). Or at least some Sophie Ellis-Bextor. But whatever you do, we pay to hear requests, stop playing your own agenda!

umm, i'm not an annie fan at all, but sophie falls about 15 rungs lower than annie ... "murder on the dance floor"?! are you serious?!

Sophie Ellis-Bextor > Annie
Ellis-Bextor performs a much more entertaining live show than Annie.

To be honest, I don't even know who the fuck Annie is, I just like Bliss!
ps - "Take me Home" is a better song than "Murder on the Dance Floor"
-
Annie = Kylie for Bloggers
Madonna > Kylie > Annie (whose first big hit featured a Madonna Sample)
-
Ohhh, I think I do know who Annie is.

but SEB is pure lowest-common-denominator euro trash created for retarded pasty brits on some package tour in crete, annie at least has some interesting beats and much catchier hooks ... but, like i said, both of them are pretty low on the totem pole
they did play annie (chewing gum, i believe) on grey's anatomy a couple of weeks ago ... um, i mean, laguna beach ... no ... shit ....

Don't get me wrong I'm all for catchy mindless pop, as evidenced by the recent acquistion of Madonna's latest, and Annie's output is better than most. But were it not for the Basement Jaxx and Madonna samples it wouldn't have never gotten the hype it has in blogsphere.

The sun will come out tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow...

Your quote Annie = Kylie for Bloggers made me laugh out loud, seriously, but I'm not sure I'm following you here: what does Basement Jaxx have to do with Annie? Remember, Richard X and Royksopp do production on Anniemal and "The Greatest Hit," the track which samples Madonna, was only about 1/20th as popular as "Heatbeat," which Pitchfork (although I shudder to make reference to it) called 2004 song of the year...

i miss the old royksopp ... can you kindly ask annie when you see her on friday to let them get back to making heady IDM and cut the europop? thanks.

I totally agree! The second record was a major disappointment. Not even the remixes of "Only This Moment" came close to the first record in terms of engaging dance music.

Howdy Doom! Hope you didn't pick up the Avian Flu on your travels abroad. I have to admit, I'm a bit intolerant of the Super Insurgent Group of Intemperance Talent, but perhaps they'll grow on me? I'll do what I can re. the SEB and if that isn't europop enough I've some Robbie Williams, too! :) See you Friday!

their show in NYC in october was really weird ... so strange to hear the melody a.m. songs in the context of the much poppier new album, they blew up the crowd though

how is the latest robbie.... his more recent stuff has been pretty stinky, is stephen "tin tin" duffy up to returning robbie to the those fab early singles?
-
He was fantastic at Jammin Java.

Listen to "Tripping" which is the best track off the new album. I was recently in Paris and Berlin for work and it's clear Europe has Robbie-itis bad: his posters and videos are EVERYWHERE. The record will be largely ignored in the U.S., I imagine. He should do a Tin Tin/Duffy cover... "Kiss me with your mouth..."

These guys are cool. (Extremely nice guys too.) I always thought SIGIT would be a lot of fun for a good ol' forum gathering.
Already have them placed in one of my upcoming shows that's all ready to go except the station is in the midst of installing a new server and making other upgrades so I'm not sure when it will finally air. Not my normal fare but helps to uplift the mood after so much cerebral gazing. Don't want to put everyone to sleep. :D
-
Why, regarding SIGIT to each their own, maybe seeing them live is what sold me on them... but also I think perhaps they're more the Wag than Bliss. I don't know the Wag DJ though, so I can't push them as easily. :)
Anyway, see you Friday, Bliss is one of the reasons I looked forward to returning to DC. :)
Jaguar, once you decide to start speaking to me again, I'll share my SIGIT discs with you...
