OK, here is a good Friday topic. Everybody spill you guts. Who on the board has had a one nightstand, short or long term relationship with someone they met at the club.
You can also include stories about breaking up with your significant other at the club too.
Extra points for those of you who hooked up with a board member.
Oh yeah, include who was playing that night.
Personally I've hooked up once with someone I met at the club.
-
I hooked up once with someone at the old club on F Street. But just kissing in the street....(well, on the sidewalk, but outside of the club). I have no recollection of what show it was.
Oh, I did sleep with a co-worker from out of town whom I brought to the club to see the Gear Daddies. The hookup definitely occured 'cuz I took him out on the town after dinner with my boss. Again, old club.
-
Need I disclose the torrid details of my winter fling with Kurosawa?
-
Never. But I was never one to "hook up" for one night stands anyway.
I did briefly date someone I met at the Black Cat until I found out she was a Republican. Then I wore my bright red mesh fire safety monitor hat on one of our dates to make sure to sufficiently scare her away. Oh, and there was a second woman I dated who I met there as well. So Black Cat was more successful for me. It's really more of a hangout place then 9:30 is.
-
nothing to report......
although thirsty swears i was hitting on him online when i first started posting..........what an ego
-
I'm under the assumption that any woman that talks to me is hitting on me. Keep that in mind ladies.
-
A gentleman should never kiss and tell. But back in the days when hooking up was something I actually did, the Black Cat was far more productive than the 930.
-
This board sure knows how to get crazy.
-
boards in general are places of unrestrained craziness.
-
Whenever a woman would hit on me back in the day, I was always too dense and lacking in self-confidence to realize it.

I thought I once read on the Doom board of the good Doctor once being in a three way sandwich.

I don't see how anyone could pick up someone at the Black Cat. People are too worried about what they look like.
-
promiscuity is a sin.
-
I think I've mentioned this before. Only action I've got was at the Concrete Blonde concert when some blonde chick came up to me and just starting making out with me, of course I didnt push her away. She was trying to make someone jealous. I doubt it worked though, but it made a horrible concert a little better. I dont think she was a board member and even if she was, she probably wouldnt admit it.
-
I sorta met Clovette at the club. We worked in the same office, but never talked or knew each other. She saw me at a show, and came up to talk to me about it the next day. She was thinking platonic, but I fixed her. Two years later, the rest is history.
-
i actually broke up with someone at the club. it was at the wilco show. we were on the rocks anyway, and i had moved out, but he didn't quite get that moving out meant over. so i had to tell him... just before wilco went on. it was hard, he is a nice guy, and i'm still friends with him.
-
What a way... what a way. Talk about a memorable show.
-
Rhett, you lurk on Doomlink? Post, or you will be hunted down and killed.
-
Not really. I've only looked at it maybe three times when you've posted a link. So I wouldn't really call that lurking.

I wondered if that was the case.

Yup. But nothing happened. Just went out a few times. So, that probably doesn't really count. This person no longer works there.

Speaking of, Siouxsie had the 9:30 Club air conditioning off. So even though there was lots of room, the place was hot as hell. Making her low cut top all the more alluring, of course...

No. And Dupek's twin is right. I caused the spiral downhill in the thread. Sorry. As you were. Continue w/ the sordid stories.

I'm surprised her makeup didn't run all over her ugly face. Maybe it did?

I think I've previoulsy shared my story about breaking up with a girl at the Nov 2001 Social D show, when she hated the show. We traded shows that month - she wanted Cowboy Mouth and some other ska like band who always plays with them, I wanted SD. I even tried to go without her, but she insisted on going.
Anyhow, 3-4 songs into it, she insisted that we leave, SD started playing "Sick Boy" so I jumped in the pit. She split with my jacket, wallet, and keys to our apartment. That sucked.
Thankfully, I ran into a few friends who spotted me twenty bucks to get a cab home. I froze my ass of persuading her to let me back into the apartment too. Whore. She was out by the end of the week.
Hookups? I distinctly remember this Irish girl after the Stereophonics acoustic show. I swear I thought she was at least 21! Lived in Cleveland park too, right by me. We knabbed a cab home together after standing in the street for a while, got drinks when we got to CP....
-
Never really hooked up with anyone I met, but made out with a friend of mine at the Grandaddy show when they played with Dios and Fire Theft. Have had plenty of fun nights at Blowoff.

Medusa, troublemaker :D

Wow, she warrants the "C" word, though I'm not gonna use it. She lived with you?!?!? Good call getting rid of the bitch...
Question, Smack -- any good shows in San Fran Oct 2, 3, or 4? I see Snow Patrol's at the Fillmore, but sold out. Also, I get into Oakland at 9:30, so not sure what I'd make in Saturday -- maybe a late headliner.
-
Vansmack, breaking up over differences over a show... now that's dedication! Will the upcoming Social Distortion show bring back memories?
-
I did once make out with a member of a band after thier show at 930 club...
(yes, it was a girl!)

I'm seeing the Libertines Friday night at the Filmore.
I'll be scalping tickets for the Snow Patrol show because I dropped the ball on that one and Smackette is not happy about it.
There's a blue grass festival at Golden Gate park all weekend. Steve Earle is playing among others, but I'm opting for Baseball.
The New York Dolls are playing Sunday, but I'm still on the fence.
Hot Snakes and the Husbands are playing too.
And when do you go back? Supergrass is playing an instore at Ameba on Tuesday and at the Filmore that night. I will be at both.
-
I get in late Saturday and leave midday Tuesday. Too early to catch the Amoeba in store....what's a gal to do. And I think I get in too late to scalp for Snow Patrol. I did just see them here, though...
I never told you about my Echo & the Bunnymen debacle, did I? I bought tickets in advance, was there in San Fran, but went to the movies because I got my nights confused. I was PISSED and went to see Guster at the Warfield so I could see something while I was there...

It's more to the effect of my friends being reminded of the "Swimfan Debacle" (that's what she's affectionately been known as since the break up) and haven't let me hear the end of it. It's a little different because the show is at Nation this time around, but my friends will be there in full force. I'm sure I'll get a few calls.
I was so looking forward to that 2001 show - SxDx hadn't played the east coast in a while, I hadn't seen them since I moved back east and nothing, and I mean NOTHING, was going to ruin that show for me. I needed my OC fix and they brought it, despite the woman trying to keep me down.
-
I will forever remember the Warfield as the place where I witnessed the hurricane known as Queens of the Stone Age last October (Columbus Day weekend). Easily one of my top 3 favorite shows of all time. It was like watching a black hole caving in...just a whirlwind of sound, light, and energy sucking everyone in and shredding them. Also one of the last shows with Lanegan and Oliveri, sadly. But what an awesmoe spectacle.

Ouch. I've missed shows because I had the day worng, but never a show I already purchased tickets for.
I'm going to make a push for Snow Patrol tickets before the show. If I come up with some extras I'll let you know. Which reminds me - you always seem to have a few extra tickets. Any chance you bought a group of tickets for Death Cab?
-
Vansmack, that Social D show was the fucking bomb as well. After the show Charlie (the drummer) gave me his cell phone number because I looked like "a nice kid" and told me he would hook me up for the guest list whenever I needed it! Not only was that an incredible show, but those guys are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
-

Nope, didn't get any tickets for that show -- I saw them last time at they were at the club, and have tickets to see them with Pearl Jam in Reading on Friday (though I'm bagging on that show now - too much traveling this week). I don't think I know anyone who got tix for the 9:30 show. I did want to see Pretty Girls again...my bad.
-
if you're in the Tenderloin district of San Fran check out the Blue Lamp on Geary, it's a true dive with hit-or-miss bands and never more than a one dollar cover. Doesn't sound appealing I know but there's something delightfully seedy about the ambience (unless they've Yupscaled that area since I was last there.)
-
There are some good mixed-sex S&M clubs in San Francisco...or so I read a long time ago...maybe you could check them out for us.

I have been blessed with many friends who's music careers have started at timebomb recordings and have met the guys on numerous occasions. Even the people that work with/for them have nothing but nice things to say. I did get a copy of the new album a week or two back - it's much more feel good and positive than previous albums, but I still like it.

How was the earthquake today?

I was just there last week for the first time. It's still seedy as all hell and I love it. My buddy and his g/f were propositioned by a swingers couple. Her face was priceless.
The place was so great the I had the champagne of beers, and I could be one of the worst beer snobs I know. Something just seemed right about a high life at that moment.

holy cow! The same thing happened to me several years ago (although I was alone). They were a weird couple. I wonder if it was the same people or maybe there's more to the Blue Lamp than meets the eye? I don't think so... I think strange things just naturally happen in San Francisco, and especially the Blue Lamp.

Could have been the same couple, but you tell me: They started in on just the guy when he was by himself, buying him glasses of wine. I showed up with a group (which included his girlfriend) about 45 minutes later, and when she went up to say hello to her boyfriend and let him know that she was here, they quickly asked them if they wanted to go to dinner. When they declined, they propositioned them to go home, and her jaw dropped (she's a very innocent type, her boyfriend a little more worldly). It was classic. I still laugh about it.
Anyhow, the couple quickly scurried off....

it's hard to say because in my case I was hanging out at the bar by myself. A woman approached me and started flirting and then her companion came up. They seemed friendly enough, and if people are gonna buy me drinks who am I to argue? At the end, when it was time to leave, they asked me if I wanted to come back to their place. I declined and that was it. Maybe they're actually serial killers posing as swingers.
