Music museum plans forge ahead (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A16532-2003Sep15.html) -- from the Post.
What would you do if you could work there?
(Jadetree already claimed the job as manager of GbV's 'Drink Your Face Off' Cafe)

If you dont know the answer to that question, perhaps you should try reading a book once in a while.

Hate to burst your hot little bubble Paige, but this will become a very established institution. Think about it for a minute. When it comes down to it, it will be overloaded with non-Rock and much older musicians. Not many of what you would consider, hot Rock stars. At least, not hot anymore. Now, they may visit the museum while in town or attend snooty parties. Even then, you know darn well, being in DC, it will be overloaded with non-hot Capital Hill politicos and their wives. We're still better off along the U St. corrider.

so why aren't you out there making a living as a jazz musician?
here's one for ya...a good of my parents who is a well respected jazz bass player also toured with David Bowie during the early 70's quite possibly one his best periods, i.e. Diamond Dogs Young America

i'll work the bar............the backstage bar..........
i don't know what's in more danger..........the booze or the boys in the band................
probably just the profits...................

I'll be the curator and set a policy that you must last longer than 15 minutes to be exhibited in the museum...which eliminates most bands from recent years!

Not so fast! While most of the acts may only have 15 minutes of fame, TRL has been on the air since 1997 and is still going strong today. Look for a revival when Brit's new album comes out too. And after she tours and gets tone again, it's all over.
So I propose a wing dedicated to the concept of TRL, not any one particular act. And nobody voted Mankie curator, he just appointed himself. So lets let the guy who's only new CD in the past 5 years was Interpol be in charge? I don't think so.

Anyone remember the DC venue Wax Museum (4th & E SW, 1982-84)? It was a failed tourist trap that was converted into a huge venue with cool sunken ampitheater seating at the end by the stage, and complete with a bunch of the wax figures from the museum

I loved that place!!! Nothing like buying a drink at the bar while Neil Armstrong's real space suit floated above you or being greeted by John Wayne on your way in the door. In fact, I still have my VIP membership card that the bartender gave me. :D Too bad it's good for nothing anymore.

After the place closed, the figures were auctioned and I think I remember discovering that John Wayne one in some restaurant as a decoration (the joint behind Hechts in Freindship Hts?). I remember that Orpheus Records on M st in GTown had the Louis Armstrong one

I'm very surprised that the Smithsonian didn't grab them!

Or the museum of American History so they could be proudly displayed alongside Fonzy's leather jacket!

Yes, but there is a large performing space in the plan, which could be cool. Actually, my brother-in-law's architecture firm in NY has bid on this project, and it includes multiple performing spaces, both large and small (and outdoor). It could be something we 9:30 club aficionados use as well.
