We're going to the playoffs!
-
Any word on what day the first playoff game is yet?
-
No, sadly it didn't say when I bought the tickets.
-
Looks like they are now saying it will be Wednesday night.
I went back to see what tickets were still available and it looks like noting but 400 level is left. That was fast as hell!
-
Post says Thursday or Friday, Ottawa or Philly.
-
Well we will find out the opponent later today! Hope its the Flyers.
-
I'd be happy to see them play Flyers or Bruins. I'm just so effing excited to be in the playoffs. I'm really hoping the games are Thurs and Fri...
-
Game was a blast to be at!!
What a great run to get into the playoffs!!
Got my tickets and it does not matter what day the games are. Just so happy that they are in the playoffs!!
Now a new run starts in the playoffs!!

-

Seriously though, hope its a kick ass series and whoever wins goes all teh way... BTW if this game is Thursday I'll have two Joe Jackson tickets up for grabs...
-

(a) will do my best to drop by, if door/gate attendent let me through, and (b) you're a brave man - not that caps fans are that crazy. i sure wouldn't wear a washington jersey to games 3 and 4!
i'll be in section 421 - oddly enough, by choice. my buddy asked that i buy the cheapest tix possible. he's recently become a father so understandably he has other priorities, but i now wish i had subsidized his ticket and bought something a little better. oh well, at least i'll be in arena when the madness hits.

In 1997 I was in the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh for an Aerosmith concert. I was in the fan club and had seats on the floor about the 6th row. Anyway I was there early as usual and all these people were looking at me like they wanted to kick my ass. Im all thining "Man I know I am from the south but I havent opened my mouth yet for them to hear the accent". About 5 minutes later I realized I have my Flyers jersey on. OOPS. I slowly made my way back to my chair, took it off and slid it under my jacket.
I am a Flyers fan from WAY back. Decades ago, the AHL affiliate team was here in Richmond. Long before the caps even existed. Been a fan ever since. I also play the gane (VERY poorly since I did not start skating until I was 40) and think its the best sport going by far!
The dog house keeps the rain off your head!
Check your PM. I'll give you my cell and you can txt me at the game. Is theer a good place to eat pre-game where we coudl mayeb all meet up? Well that is if you will allow me to be the token flyers fan in the group! Ill be up all day since I am going to the Joe Jackson show the night before. No need to make two trips up and back in two days.
-
What position do you play?

i'd wait til they dispose of Philly and buy second round tickets. then you can watch Ovie play Crosby.

NEW YORK -- Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin has joined an elite group of players who, in the same season, have won the Art Ross Trophy for the National Hockey League scoring championship as well as the Maurice Richard Trophy for being the Leagueâ??s top goal scorer, while Detroit Red Wings goaltenders Dominik Hasek and Chris Osgood have captured the 2007-08 William Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders for the club finishing the season having surrendered the fewest goals.
The awards will be presented at a media event to be conducted during the Stanley Cup Final.
Ovechkin won the Art Ross Trophy by finishing the season with 112 points (65 goals, 47 assists), six more than Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins (47-59--106) and 14 more than Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla (50-48--98).
Ovechkinâ??s League-leading goal total, an NHL record for left wings and the highest in the NHL since Mario Lemieux had 69 in 1995-96, made Ovechkin the first Russian-born player to win both trophies in the same season. Atlantaâ??s Ilya Kovalchuk finished second to Ovechkin with 52 goals, with Iginla third.
Ovechkin becomes only the sixth player in the past 37 years to lead the League in goals and points in the same season, joining a group that includes Phil Esposito (1970-71 through 1973-74), Guy Lafleur (1977-78), Wayne Gretzky (1981-82 through 1984-85, plus 1986-87), Mario Lemieux (1987-88, 1988-89) and Iginla (2001-02).
Osgood appeared in 43 games and Hasek in 41, with each surrendering 84 goals as the Red Wings finished with the most points in the League (115) and the fewest goals against (184).

Sounds good. Hit me with a text or call when you are headed over. We will try to meet you there. I'll be at the club Thrusday night for Joe Jackson as well. I'll save the orange and black for Friday though!
-
Stubhub prices are ridiculous. F that. Any chance I'll get tix closer to face from day-of scalpers at the Verizon Center?
-
always worth a try. you might need to miss a few minutes of the first period, as i'd expect that prices won't drop until after face-off.
also, keep an eye on craigslist. occasionally face-priced tickets pop up there although this is probably less likely for the playoffs.
-
While helping a friend (caps fan even) here in Richmond look for tickets, I saw a few ads on C's List for tickets at face from season ticket holders. Ads said you had to pick up your tikcets wearing your Caps jersey though... :) I hope you find tickets.
-
The caps-fans-only clause pretty much eliminates me :)

Not to flare back up the Caps/Pens hate-spew, but the Pens team photo for this year might be the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time...

You should warn me before hand about stuff like that, at my age I need to wear depends when I laugh that hard in case some pee drips out.

That's outlandish. They've arguably been the 2nd hottest team in hockey over the last month behind San Jose, play in the weaker, more-balanced conference, have one of the best records in hockey over the last the last 4 months, and recently came into a massive improvement in goal. I wouldn't make them the favorite or in the top 5, but the deserve better then next-to-worst odds. Put them at 32-1 with Colorado.

u see any of the game last eve?
"They physically pushed the Senators around... Maxim Talbot, for instance, rushed to the defense of Fleury, who was jawing with Martin Lapointe, and Talbot threw Lapointe to the ice. Even Crosby got into it with Redden and Gerber with 3:25 left. That led to Ryan Whitney jumping to Crosby's defense and soundly thumping Redden in a fight that pretty much summed up the state of affairs for teams."

my schedule changed so i don't have to mangle the show tonight, and a friend found some late release tix, so i'll be at the game. somewhere in the rafters, i'm sure.
let's go caps!
my mood at the club later will be directly related to how the game goes.
-
a few of us are meeting up at RFD's before the game, folks should feel free to come join us. i'll be the guy in the red shirt.
thatguy - i'll be up in the rafters too, 421 row N. i'll keep an eye out for you. maybe we can share a cab back to the club after the game, since i'll be headed there too.
-

bummer.
everytime you make it on the big HD screen, we seem to win. they flashed to your area after a goal last game, nice to see you rocking the red.

i'm not superstitious like that, but my presence on the screen has nothing to do with where my seats are. i've had seats all over the arena this season. hell, sometimes they put me up there when i'm not even at the game.
last game, i won a stick autographed by the whole team. i was there with my cousins, and they couldn't believe that i won something with the ticket they randomly gave me. some people have suggested a conspiracy, but i don't think there is one.
-
Well I am back home in Richmond after the Joe Jackson show on Thursday night and the hockey game tonight. I have a great time at both. Looks like my thoughst on the game were pretty accurate. The Flyers kep #8 out of the game until well into teh 3rd period. Then he got an assist (I think on the goal to tie the game) and had a beautiful steal to score the game winning goal. The Caps outplayed the Flyers the entire 3rd period. I dont think the Flyers bet the Caps to a single puck and maybe had 3 shots in the period.
Looks like it is goiong to be one hell of a series. See y'all at another game soon!

Does anyone have the presale password for tomorrows presale for possible Home games 3 and 4 for round 1?????
-
my foray into the rafters was a blast, but today i'm back down on the main concourse. i lost an ebay auction for seats near the top, but then ticketmaster gave me the gift of section 112 row d late last night.
LET'S GO CAPS!
-
i just still cant believe i went to almost every game for 3 years and now all of a sudden they win 10 games or so at the end of the year and all of DC is going to games now.
i know good teams call for better attendance but jeeeez....i even saw an Ovechkin jersey in Baltimore on Friday, the first one i've seen in 3 years. i hope all these fans are still around come October.
-
Well the series is now on! Bother games in DC were tough. Again it boilded down to the Flyers being ble to control #8. They couldnt in gamne one (not for the whoel game anyway), but they did in game 2. The outcomes were directly related to this (IMHO). Now on to Philly to see what happens next. You gotta love playoff hockey!
-
caps fans, you should be proud of yourselves......way to show up in the last 5 or 6 games of the season! you really know how to support a team through thick and thin, kudos. now you LOVE the caps! wow, what a bozo fanbase.
on a side note, mike green is a douchebag. there are two peeple that overcame the dork-factor assumed by tucking in their jersey: gretzky and jagr. even with those guys it's pretty dorky. what a tool. tuck it in Green, you're the man!
-
Game 5 is on sale now. I'll be there.
PS "Rock the Red" shirts are MUCH cheaper at Modells. They are $10 less to be exact. Everyone probably knew this already, but I just found it yesterday. It fits great too.
-
if someone could please PM me the presale password, i'd be very grateful. i can't make game 5 (home game 3), but would be willing to take a chance on game 7 tickets. presale is only on for another hour and a half...

ORANGE you getting a little scared now? (Inside joke there.)
-
the flyers are a better team
the capitals have a better player
I just dont see how the latter wins out in a
7-game series.
-
i hope you're wrong about that sonick, except for the "7 game" part since i just picked up tickets for it :)
wow... seats available this morning were just as bad as during the presale last night. ugh. after numerous tries at seeing what's available, i'm under the impression that they've eliminate the $37 price-point in the name of revenue maximization... i.e. all the upper cheapies are $50. did anyone get a $37 seat for game 5 or 7?
so i had to go for $50 seats - which are NO better than the $37 ones we had last week!
now let's pray that i get to use those tickets, and not lose $23 on non-refundable TM fees. goddam racket they got going there - rape you if you do, rape you if you don't... sigh.
-

Based on what?
Better special teams, that's about it. And that is kinda a wash since the Flyer's have shown a tendency to rack up high PIMs.
They're pretty evenly matched.
Semin, Green, Backstrom, Huet have shown the Caps are more than Ovie. (Just not yesterday.)

Prolly the best way to get tickets--especially if you don't want to be accused of being a fair-weather fan--is to do what I did: sign up for season tickets for next year and get super savings on playoff tix w/NO service charge. My GF and I enjoyed games 1 and 2 in great $50 uppers for $19 each!
Plus, you get billed after each round is over. No play, no pay.
The only downside to all this may come on 4/22. I hope like hell Lou Reed gets another opener, or that the series doesn't go 7 games!
-
I might have an extra e-ticket for this weekend's game if anyone is looking for one at face. I can't wait. I don't get CSN so I can't even watch most of the games...
-
Well now we have had a third hard fought game in a row. Series is still a long way from over. For the second game in a row the Flyers looked to be out playing the Caps. A few questionable calls in the game, but I have to say most went the Flyers way. Being a hockey player myself, I would have been livid had that penalty shot been awarded to an opponent. One of the handful of requirements to award the penalty shot is that the penalized player does not get a shot off and pretty damn clearly Huet had to make a save on the play. Game #4 will be very interesting to say the least and I'm not so sure I want to be in the Verizon center for game #5! :) You gotta love playoff hockey...

but when i replyed they had played 9, dumbass. and if you dont agree, well then you arent watching the games.
But if you want a second reason. the Flyers had a better record in a much better divison. is that better?
Boston took Montreal to Game 7, would you say those teams are evenly matched? I dont think so.

The Flyers had 1 more point in the regular season. And that makes them the better team?
So using your 'logic'...
The Ducks are a better team than the Stars and are moving on? Right? They had a better record!
Who's playing the Devils in the next round? They have a better team than the Rangers. Their record is better.
Yes, up until game 7 the Bruins and Habs were evenly matched. How do I know? They each won 3 games.
Wait...Why are they even playing these games? The better teams are already decided by their regular season records and who plays in the better division.
But what do I know, I'm not watching the games.

unfortunately i'll be going straight from the office to the game, so i won't be one of the booing idiots :p

Excuse me! Better division too!
That's the case for your wonderful pontification of the Flyers being the better team?
Barring some freak circumstance where every ref is on the take and they put magnets in the puck that can control the action. Yes, the better team is the one that wins the series. That is a basic rule of competition.
You're done.
You lost the argument.
You've resulted to (really bad) name calling.
Don't be bitter.
Just go away and come back when you can make a good point and back it up with some intelligence beyond 'Are you like 16'.

if you're going to get into arguments and leave with any semblance of dignity, you'll need to do better than simply dismissing the other person and declaring yourself winner.

You don't really think I would lose dignity over a message board post? That's really quaint.
I still know a better team wins a playoff series. The Stanley Cup goes to the winner of the playoffs. The best team wins the Cup.
If you'd like to also run around with yer lil' buddy and act this isn't true, be my guest.
I'm not arguing it anymore. Yes, I'm 'owned' by not going along with the retarded notion the team with the best regular season record is the best team of the season or playoff series.

no really. judging from your trashtalking and stuff in this and other thread, you sound like youre 16. It wasnt meant to be insulting. Its really how you come off. [/b]
It's called playing down to your audience. If you don't like it raise your level of discourse "dummy".

I would say that the team with the best regular season record is the best team in the league...simply because it's based over a longer period, more teams and more games. You can be the best team in the world and some crappy team have your number so beat you most times. (In England we call that your bogey team) You meet that team in the playoffs and it's goodbye, you're out in 7. This crappy team then go out 4-0 in the next round because they're, well, crap, but the team who swept them you've beaten them handsomely every time you played them during the regular season....who's the best team?
Ever heard the saying...."this is the playoffs, everything changes"

What a series!

I have struggled to find an emoticon for a stomach punch.

Honestly.
It's hard to expect the Caps to go all the way considering 3 months ago they were dead effing last in the East. They did damn fine and next season will be spectacular.
Here here!
-
The Caps did amazingly well, as did the Flyers. Dead last in the entire NHL last year and the worst record in team history. Then this year make the playoffs. The Caps were written off months ago and somehow made he playoffs and ran the series seven games. Four one-goal games, Two two-goasl games, two games intop OT, Hell yeah that was a kick ass series.

Go Flyers! :D

Is this like an election where I can demand a recount, because 3-2 is pretty darn close.
;)

Doesn't the margin have to be less than 1/10th of 1%? If so the score would have to be 1001 to 1000 to demand a recount. Although technically that is a recount at taxpayer expense. You may well be able to call for a recount at your own expense no matter the margin. Then again am I giving the Washington Post fodder for their blogs?

Good points.
But don't you think the 'best' team is one that finds a way to get over their bogey team in a series.
Like in real football, the majority of Europeans aren't going to remember Juventus came out of the qualifying rounds with the best record in the 2004 Champions League. They'll remember Liverpool winning it over Milan.
(Again the 'best' to the majority of Europe, not UK since they couldn't even break into the top four of the Premiership that year.)
