Would you vote Brian Walalce off the board if it meant having Dupek back?
-
Is Brian that bad? I think his rants are funny.
-
I agree with econo on this one... even thought his rant regarding the short comings of DAR was spot on...
-
Brian is a rank amateur compared to Dupek, an AA vs. a PhD.
-
Dupek was a lot funnier than Brian when he wasn't being a racist.
His playlist threads were a riot.
-
Brian is one of my new favorite posters. This place would be Dullsville without him.
A few indiscretions aside, I do truly miss Dupek, The Master, though. Can he come back? Pretty please.
-
I do miss Dupek -- towards his final days he had gotten totally obsessed with race, though... if he's put that behind him, or at least learned to stuff a sock in it, it would be nice to have him back.
-
walalce is annoying, but predictable. the only person he succeeds in insulting is himself.
dupek, while entertaining, turned into an immature and insensitive racist prick. his MO was to blindly push people's buttons, not to get them to think or to get them out of their comfort zone or anything potentially elevating... he did it for the sole purpose of pissing them off. my theory on that is that he wanted everyone else to be as angry and petty as he was. he had gone downhill in his last few months, but was a lot of fun to have around before that. i'd definitely take 'the old' dupek back.
-
anyway, let us not speak ill of the departed...
-
Brian is annoying, but it's not like there aren't a few other annoying posters here. I think the difference is that Brian consciously tries to be annoying.
I vote for letting Dupek back.
-
I think the race thing is not to be trivialized though. We were all kind of used to Dupek's quirks, but imagine what effect seeing those posts would have on a newbie coming here. They'd think they had stumbled on Klan Central rather than a music board. It wasn't like he kept it isolated to one or two threads, either.
-
Yeah it got way out of hand.
I guess I could see how it could be a liability of sorts to the club.
-
Hypothetically: why should we have to endure either of them? I guess I missed the part in the Constitution where people were guaranteed a right to life, liberty, and to piss off everyone on 930.com.
-
I'm with Julian.
-
curious i've never heard of that part of the constitution, and the right to free speech doesn't apply in a private forum...
-
as long as we have a right to bare arms.
-
Brian's rants are annoying, but harmless and occasionally entertaining. He knows exactly what buttons to push to make people crazy - including me. I'm still not convinced he's not an alternate-personality of a regular boardie.

I don't understand that. I'm always insulting myself?
Whether you want to believe it or not, I never set out to annoy or "go off on a rant." I'm not Dennis Miller. The things I've said, I truly mean. I don't think to myself "You know what would really piss them off? If I said 'It's 2007. And what Pete Wentz and Gerard Way have to say is a hell of a lot more important than what Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan have to say.'" I'm not some aimless provocateur trying to "stir things up." I just thought there would be a little more adventurous thinkers/listeners on this message board who resent being fed the same things over and over and over again. Instead it seems this message board is full of people who in theory have an open mind but if you say one bad thing about Thom Yorke, Billy Corgan, Springsteen, Morrissey, etc. to them, you get tsk-tsked and exiled. People who are more concerned with what others think about what music they like and how â??coolâ? it is, than the music itself.
Brian
-
wait, Billy Corgan is "cool"??
-
I'm not really one to jump on the bash Brian Walalce bandwagon. I think some of his assessments are off-brand as hell, but he's pretty funny at times even when I think he's dead wrong. Whether he's real or not. (I just recently started leaning towards the former.)
As far as Dupek thing, it boggles my fuckin' mind that some of you "miss" the humor of a racist fuckin' coward who doesn't have the courage to state what he really is in real life, so he spews his warped form of "racial crusading" on an online forum. A musical one that leans indie & liberal, no less. Quotes about lynching negroes in Croatian???? You motherfuckers really find that funny??? It really makes me wonder how some of you conduct yourselves out in the "real world" where there are far less "PC people" (no pun intended at all) around. Fuckin' atrocious. Assume when I 1st came around these parts I were to start off posting a bunch of white-folk filled hate humor. I guarantee that shit would not be endearing to anyone. I like off-color humor & racially insensitive jokes as much as the next man, but only when it comes from a funny place. Dupek was simply a salty coward mad cause black people at his job surpassed him in professional status, some got away with some shit and he couldn't handle it. Nothing funny about him. I really wonder about some of you people . . .
-
Everyone in this thread has stated that they thought the racial shit wasn't funny and many of us think that his banning was justified because of it. .

indeed, that's why i prefer your inputs than the afore-mentioned dupek. i don't agree with what you say, but i'll defend your right to say them (and my right to make fun of them). racist provocation, on the other hand, i won't defend. beu-bye.

no, walalce, not exiled, just ridiculed if you seriously think that today's corpo-rock is original and owes nothing to its predecessors. if you want to listen to MCR, go for it, but don't pretend they're not hugely endebted to queen and bowie. and your knee-jerk reaction to anything more than 7 years old is just as funny as other boardee's knee-jerk to anything that sold more than 15,000 copies and is known by the mainstream.
the ability to recognise that certain rock acts are still relevant 20 or 30 years later means that one can listen without historical prejudice, IMO. keep in mind there are hundreds if not thousands of "old" bands we don't discuss because they haven't passed the test of time.
has it ever occured to you that you're the one with the closed mind?
-
Who are Pete Wentz and Gerard Way? I honestly have no idea.

Don't bother finding out. Your life will be better for it. Trust me.
-
I don't think Brian needs to go. At least not until we find out who he really is.

Wow! You're playing the ageism card? Wow!
You're officially an American. You may now enter corporate America. Leave your British accent at the door.

So do I get an undeserved promotion with generous pay increase and a corner office with window to shut me the hell up?

If you PROMISE to shut the hell up, that ALL can be arranged.
Brian

In which thread is the DAR rant?

excellent come-back.

-
facinating hypothesis. does this mean we'll be the subjects of a badly-written "hipster expose", which in the end only further reveals how self-absorbed mr. du lac really is? interesting.
-
Could it possibly be Dupek with a whole new persona?
-
i considered that possibility for a moment - not unlike dupey, he's into saying obnoxious things seemingly to push people's buttons. and some of his posts as of late have been pretty impressive in terms of writing, witty comparisons, etc... if it was dupek, he was letting his guard down and falling out of character.
but in the end i really do think it's a petulant 17-year-old with a big opinion about something he should know more about (the reason why he fits in so well on this board)... either that, or a generally Oscar-worthy performance.
-
I think it's either Rhett or just a pimply 16 year old who has no friends so spends his entire life after homework in his room spanking his monkey while watching Hanna Montana on the Disney channel or making smart ass comments on message boards like this one.

Did anyone else notice Brian Wallace's account was registered in October 2005? I'd love to be able to go back and see the early posts of this cat.
Some of the comments he's made allude to an alterego -- i.e. he hints that he's meant Miss P.
I dunno. Dupek is batshit insane enough to create an alterego totally unlike his self.
-
I seriously doubt it's Dupek, his musical tastes where fairly specific an don't think he went off listening to Fallout Boy with the intent to stir up trouble here.

Just for the sake of discussion: isn't the point of an alterego to have different "interests" and "traits" then the real persona? Why would we expect a Dupek alter ego to be a carbon copy of Dupek?
-
Certain info is logged with each post and I believe that Brian is no Dupek, based on it.

I know on some boards mods features you can sort posters by logged IP addresses. Can you do that here?
-

I know Dupek, Dupek was a friend of mine. And Brian Wallace is no Dupek!!!
-
Nope... Only searching by IP address is an option
-
Are you also aware that there are several websites you can put his IP addy into which will give you a breakdown of his ISP and a general geographical location?

We've been down this path before on the board and as our self-appointed attorney, I'd advise us to not go down the path again.

In my years of administrating a board with far more assholes and banned members then 930.com, this was standard practice to sniff out repeat offenders, and even the most insane rich brats never took any legal recourse. What privacy law is broken by automated returns of metadata from ISPs?

The mods currently do a good job of blocking IP's and weeding out the multiple alias' when problems arise. I was speaking of an issue of outing someone publicly on the board that doesn't need to be repeated.

could you please publicly repeat this outing? must have been before my time.

Nope. And yes, it was before your time.

I also don't recall whatever he's alluding to.

No fair talking about something that was before my time in vague terms on my thread. :(
-
Really guys, it was nothing. Your mods know what they're doing. That's all I was getting at...
