That is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Check out the Slash Shreds as well.

Hey Epstein, didn't you get the memo?
Unless you are talking about very Mainstream Indie, you are to be ignored, made fun of, lambasted or some other form of outcasting around here. The sheep don't like it.
-
Not my problem. She's not obscure. People are just ignorant. ;)

alternately, if you mention (or, heaven forbid, admire) anyone who has sold more than 10,000 copies of their last release, your opinions are equally null and void
-
What ya talking about? Are you saying ALL of us here are sellouts? I like some mainstream and million selling acts as well. I'm listening to Britney right now...

clapton "shredding" is about as cringeworthy as the amy winehouse clip... that shredding sounds an awful like me screwing up playing guitar hero iii on the Wii... just add in annoying sax player and people jumping to their feet for full effect.

you know it's a joke, right?

No wonder people love him.
They've never played guitar before/
-
Apparently it is a joke based on youtube comments. I didn't get it until the sax player started playing...

Of course it is a joke. There are a whole bunch of them...Santana is the best I've seen so far....hilarious.
-
clapton was god 40 years ago.

Iron Maiden.
Hands. Down.
-
i of course realized it was a joke, just couldn't believe how serious it was been taken in the clip by the band and the audience. it seriously sounds like me "shredding" on GHIII.
-
I don't get it. I must be dumb. In the clips, it doesn't really sound like the guitarist but it's still some pretty good guitar playing, I think. The playing seems to match up to what the guitarist is doing, too.
Could some please explain to me what's going on in these clips? I'm in the dark.

Someone replaced the original audio with wankery that closely matches the playing that is seen.
-
Those are fantastic...very Spinal Tap, like when Nigel starts playing guitars with the violin and his feet.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I just have to say that Pete Townshend is God. Been loving that "Amazing Journey" special put together by VH-1.

Ok. Thanks. I did think some of them were funny. Like the one where Slash uses the talkbox but makes bird noises. I was just a little thrown because the guy who did them matched up the fake audio with the fretting and picking on the video VERY well. He had me fooled.

Now, what does this say about guitar solo worshipping in general?

True story.

It isn't what it used to be?

Blah. Mr. Big. Yuck. A friend of mine really liked Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc etc when we were in Middle School. I could never get into that.

Kinda like those silly cats that bring up Yngwie Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, & 'em when I say Hendrix is the G.O.A.T. of guitarists. That's like comparing Jordan to an And 1 Streetballer or the Harlem Globetrotters.
-
Exactly. He also couldn't stand Hendrix and thought that Les Pauls and Strats were old man guitars.
Fast forward 17 years and now he's playing a Les Paul in his band.

No. I don't think it's awful playing. It's better than most people can play. It's pretty good guitar playing. Also having to match up with what they (Clapton, Santana, etc.) are playing is tough. It has to be "bad" but still match up, sort of. It may be a little too ironic for me but some of them were funny. There's some flubs but it's pretty good.
Brian
P.S. I'm excited. I'm seeing a really good bluegrass revue, next Sunday.
-
Ok. The Metallica one is hilarious. I'm crying.
Brian
-
To be honest, the playing intentionally sucks. I'm glad you like it, but that wasn't the guitarists intention.

If your last DC area show was reviewed by Channel 4 news, you definitely aren't obscure:

Thanks, ggw. I bet you sweetcell didn't even know Daft Punk until after the Coachella 2006 buzz :)
I kid, I kid!

Brian. Child. You need some educating. Here is what a true guitar god (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkm9OiYvmPc) sounds like. Such a shame though that he fell off of his pedestal and so early on.
