Title: Bruce
Post by: Bags on November 05, 2007, 10:41:00 am
So does anyone know if there's an opener for the Bruce/E Street Band show at Verizon?  Just wonderin'...

I thought he played 2 sets, but I could be wrong.

Bruce NEVER has an opener; unless you count that Voters for Change tour he was a part of, which of course wasnt a Bruce Tour.  If this is anything like the last two tours with The ESB expect them to hit the stage around 8:15/8:30 and play between 2 and
 2 1/2 hours.

I've never been to a Bruce show -- just that Voters for Change thing....  Thanks for the info!

Should be a fun time, Bags. Expect that he'll be on for a good 3 hours. It doesn't feel like it's that long though.

The Philadelphia show was around 2 and 1/4 hrs.  8:20 to 10:30ish.

Sunday's show here starts at 7:30, so an early night for all.

 GENERAL ADMISSION: HOW IT'LL WORK
With opening night just 24 hours away, we've gotten official word from the Springsteen organization regarding G.A. entry for the North American leg. Before we get to the nitty-gritty details, let's do an overview. The entire floor for each show will be general admission, with no reserved seating (actually, no seating at all). The G.A. floor is divided up into two sections by a rail: a smaller area directly in front of the stage (commonly known as "the pit"), and a larger open area behind it. A special wristband, distributed to a few hundred people as determined by lottery, will be required for access to the pit. Here's how it happens.

     * Numbered G.A. wristbands (not pit wristbands) will be given out at the venue between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. All G.A. ticketholders who show up between those times will get one.
     * At 5:15, the lottery occurs: a random number will be drawn, and the person with that number on their wristband will be at the front of the line for entry onto the floor.
     * Line-up starts at 5:30, in order by wristband number. If there were 600 wristbands given out and the random number drawn was 536, then people with wristbands numbered 536-600 will be at the front of the line, with 1-535 behind them.
     * The line will enter the venue whenever they're ready to open the doors. The first x number of people in this line (x being a few hundred, will likely vary by venue) will get a second wristband for pit entry. Everyone else, including those G.A. ticketholders who can't get there until after 5:00, can stake out a spot on the main floor.

 ===

That's general info from backstreets.com.  I guess the dc-specific info may be a bit different.

The 50 yr old regulars Fooer speaks of who take the day off and pretend its 1980 again, and then get in shoving matches because they are 50 and not 24 and dont like people touching them/invading their space.  They even go so far to calling the area closest to the stage "The Pit"; like they are at a Slayer show or something.

Below is the link to the logistics for the show in St Paul, MN the other day..

***** GENERAL ADMISSION FLOOR PIT LOTTERY *****

The Bruce Springsteen GA floor is divided into 2 areas. The lottery procedure determines access to the smaller front pit area.  If you are not interested in trying to gain access to the front GA pit area - it is not necessary to partipate in the lottery procedure. Your ticket will be valid for the remaining floor area at the time the regular gates open

On the day of the show, sequentially numbered wristbands will be distributed at Gate 1 of the Xcel Energy Center beginning at 2:00 PM. Wristbands will be distributed until 5:00 PM. Wristbands will be issued and affixed to the patron's wrist only after the patron's ticket has been verified a GA ticket.  One wristband per patron. Wristbands are non-transferable. No wristbands will be distributed after 5:00 PM. Drawing will take place at 5:30.  Additional information will be forthcoming with wristband.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT NO PATRON, FAN, OR CLUB RUN LIST WILL BE HONORED BY TOUR PERSONNEL, SECURITY OR BUILDING PERSONNEL!

The above procedures will be implemented and supervised by touring personnel and are subject to change at discretion of tour/venue.

Here's the official word from the Verizon Center:

 http://www.verizoncenter.com/news/springsteen_070917.shtml (http://www.verizoncenter.com/news/springsteen_070917.shtml)

Sequentially numbered wristbands will be distributed to general admission (GA) ticket holders on the day of the show, between 2:00pm and 5:00pm, on the 6th Street side of Verizon Center. For those ticket holders that arrive after 5:00pm, non-sequential GA wristbands will be distributed. A starting number will be randomly chosen by a fan at 5:15pm. This number will be announced and displayed at the 6th Street entrance. The fan holding the wristband that matches the starting number drawn will be the first in line (i.e., if numbers 1-100 were issued and number 10 was drawn, the line would start with 10, then 11, 12, 13 through 100, followed by 1 -9).

The purpose of the random number wristband distribution is to insure that all fans have the same chance of being first in line, eliminating the need to arrive early.

At 5:30pm two lines will be formed: one for the front GA pit and one for the remaining GA floor area. Patrons will be let in the building starting at 5:50 p.m., ten minutes prior to the general public at 6:00 p.m.

Doors for the general public will open at 6:00pm.

 ======

Thanks for the tip on the GA lottery.  I hadn't heard anything about that.

for a general idea of what pit vs main GA will look like, peep  this (http://picasaweb.google.com/sweetcell/SpringsteenMeadowlands/photo#5122523862340936002) (then have a look  here (http://picasaweb.google.com/sweetcell/SpringsteenMeadowlands/photo#5122523991189955042) to get an idea of what the whole floor looks like).  the pit area is no more than a fifth (probably less) of the GA section.  so the real advantage of winning the pit lottery is not being crushed against the rail, it's the opportunity to grab a great spot at the back of the pit - 20 feet back from the stage, nice and comfy, with some elbow room.  only place you're going to get that in the main GA area is 200+ feet away from the stage, i.e. the back of the section.

You can't talk like that on this message board.  Most of the people on this board regard BRUUUUUUUCCCCCCE!!! as the second coming.

 Bruce is forever young.

 Bruce = rock and roll.

 Bruce will never die.

 All hail the mighty Bruce!

 You are not allowed to:

 1.)  Mock him.
 2.)  Question his relevancy.
3.)  Make fun of his stupid Sesame Street-like lyrics.
 4.)  Question his patriotism.
5.)  Reveal that he may be the most boring, overrated "rock star" of the 20th century.
6.)  Look him directly in the eyes.
7.)  Suggest that a Novocain-less root canal would be a more pleasant evening than a 97-hour "religious experience/tent revival" with Bruce, "Little Steven" and "The Big Man."

For your transgressions prepare to be derided, made fun of and threatened with expulsion from the board.

P.S.   I on the other hand LIKE THE CUT OF YOUR JIB!

Be prepared for a zoo with the GA wristbands and a lot of whining about being "fair" and "miscommunication" and the like.  It was, for lack of a better word, a shitshow in Philly.  It will probably be a little different because a) people won't have been tailgating in the parking lot all day and b) Washingtonians don't have that special Philadelphia charm, but be prepared for a headache.

You're a funny guy and all, but what are you talking about?  Maybe you have this confused with the Philadelphia Flyers fan board.  A lot of folks here like Springsteen, but no one talks about his relevancy, patriotism etc.  People here are pretty realistic.  Mostly.

I rather have first come first serve than the lottery.  I camped out and did 24 hours on the Rising Tour in Philly in 2002, overnight at MCI and Greensboro 27 hours, and the last ever first come first serve show Rochester, New York 3 days.  Done the Lottery for 3 shows everytime in the pit due to my abilities. :D   I did nail MSG 2 # 5 in the pit but Oakland was a close call with the lottery almost not making the pit by 5 people.  MSG 2 earlier this year was a night to never forget.  Rare railing spot most people never get in front of Bruce.  I'd say blame the whinners that can't take off work to put in time to get a good spot.

Brian, or as I prefer #10212...I'm a big Bruce fan and wasn't mocking him at all..sorry to let you down.

I'm happy to have a debate of Fall Out Boy Lyrics:
One night and one more time
 Thanks for the memories
even though they weren't so great
"He tastes like you only sweeter"
I was referring to the headaches I choose not to endure to get close to the stage.  I dont see the incentive to battle some of the people in that mindset as Fooer does, but more power to him/her for doing so.

I'd prefer to be in the seats so I can go to the  bathroom when Patti breaks into "Town Called Heartbreak".

"I got a job working construction for the Johnstown company.

Super Natural Abilities.  Good with odds and numbers and I do have the best luck.  If there was one person in the world you survive a fight in the middle of jungle or desert it would probably be me!!!  For those that know who I am and on the other boards yes I am that damn good!!!

Bruce's security gives out the wristbands.  You get a number once you have shown your ticket.  You are not allowed to take it off.  The Bruce Lottery is fair.  The people that were falsely accused for running the GA line on the Rising tour in the Arena's suggested this way to run the lottery after trials and errors from the past Bruce tours starting with the stadium tour 2003, Vote for Change 2004, a few arena acoustic shows with GA in 2005, and amphitheatres GA Pits on the Seeger Sessions tour.  I have this Luck and I dodge bullets baby!!!

To just hand out wristbands to folks with GA tickets defeats the very purpose of using wristbands.  The point is to put them on so they are not transferable.  You must be there to get a wristband.

Old age, huh?  Maybe he should take some Viagra.

How was the show? I think I'm going to break down and buy the cd on Itunes today because I heard he plays mostly the new stuff.

And, if any one could share the actual start time of the show, that would be swell.  Thanks.

Show was great.  No official setlist on backstreets yet, and i don't remember that stuff well.

Started at 8:30ish despite a 7:30 start time on the ticket.

 Radio Nowhere

 Tunnel of Love
 Magic
 Devil's Arcade
 Gipsy Biker
 She's the One
 Workin on the Highway
 Living in the Future
 Last to Die
 The Rising
 Promise Land
 Badlands

 Girls in their Summer Clothes
 Growin up
 Kitty's Back
 Born to Run
 Dancing in the Dark
 American Land

No Born in the USA? Oh hell no-he has to play it on Veterans Day in DC while we're at war. At least now I know what to say to him.

I was told 8:20 was the standard start time.  I didn't check my watch for the exact time, but renton007's assessment sounds about right.  The time just flew by.

I thought the show was great, though I personally could have used a few more hits.  The BruceHeads around me seemed to think it was a good, but not great show. "Somewhere in the middle" is what one guy told me.  He also said night #2 in each city is usually better.  Still...It was a really, really fun time.

I got there at 2:00 yesterday and there were a little over 100 people in line already.   I think they gave out at least 1000 wristbands for the lottery.  400 people get in the pit.  I was one of the lucky 400.    :)

Wrist band # 821 was the one chosen in the lottery last night...my friend and I had 851 and 852 so we were right up front to the left of bruce in front of Nils and Clarence.  Great show.  Fairly similar setlist...but a few played tonight not played last night:

Ties that Bind, Thunder Road, Jackson Caye, maybe a few more.  No "Growing up" during encore which would have been great.  No "Night" during the main set.

Great great show though, and being right up front really made it feel like I was seeing the band at 9:30.

yup, bombay chutney's luck rubbed off on me, too   :)    it was a surreal experience.  thanks to those who posted info about the lottery.

i've seen many concerts, wizards games (including playoffs), etc at the verizon center.  never has the place been so packed (til the end) and SO alive.  it was the most enthusiasm i've ever felt from a DC crowd regardless of venue or event.

You must have been right next to my brother, his wife and son (wearing red Terps hat).  They had wristbands in the 860's and the planted themselves on the rail by Nils.   Great show and the best I think I have seen of a usually lame DC crowd.  Loved Jackson Cage and Backstreets.

Bruce put on a fantastic show.  I never thought I would say that about someone who didn't play a lot of his hits. At the end of the show he gave his harmonica to the most adorable kid whose father was injured in Iraq. He was very personable and generous.

Good questions!  Just what kind of secretary, though...?

I WAS exactly next to them...very nice folks...we all held down spots for each other during bathroom runs, food runs etc.  We chatted with them quite a bit.

Brian can be counted on to combine the insight of Ann Coulter and a TRL groupie.

What did the crowd do to make themselves un-lame?

Did they stroke their waxed balls when he did Born to Run?

I love Ann Coulter.  That would be the angriest sex ever.  I couldn't be with her, though.  My libido thinks she's hot.  But my brain is repulsed by the fact that she's seen The Grateful Dead over sixty times.  For that, she's one step below Hitler, in my opinion.
