i don't agree with all of it necessarily...but a lot of that article is spot on.

I can't comment on the artist pay stuff, but the rest of the article doesn't ring true to me. I think the Black Cat has been getting better - i.e., there isn't an interminable line for every sold out show.
And how can the author rag on the club for banning BJM when the R'nR Hotel claims to have banned two dozen bands in the year or so they have been open?
The article just sounds like sour grapes.

As for the original article: I don't think infighting is going to help the DC music scene any more than opening too many clubs is going to help.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why the BJM was banned? This must have occured before I moved the area. I love that band.

i believe a semi-regular forumite was at that show, but if memory serves it was basically fiasco city on the backstage one sunday night...

Awesome, thanks for digging that up. I had just moved here when this show occured so I assume I didn't know about it. I probably didn't even know about the BC. BJM were great at DC9 a few years ago. I wished they would play DC again.

In terms of attitude, I think what he said applies way more to the 9:30 than the Black Cat.

I remembered that at least pollard pdx and markie would have been there, didn't recall all the other regulars being in attendence...
one can only guess that anton was in full effect on and off stage that night and probably stroked in the wrong direction the fur of the pussy one to many times that night. it's been almost two years since any east coast touring for BJM, only west coast and europe. the last scheduled date in Baltimore was canceled when their equipment was stolen in NYC.

I was talking about the attitude displayed by the ownership and staff of the 9:30 versus the BC.
And I'm not a condescending asshole, I'm just always 100% correct and forced to educate ignorant people in a snide, bitchy, and mean-spirited tone. I'm also new wave.
