I feel for you, fam.  I love my iPod more than a majority of the people I come in contact with.  And that's a fair amount . . .

Problem is I can't decide if I should just go out and replace it now with an 80 gig (mine was 60) or bide my time a while and see if something better comes along from apple in the next few months.  The ride to work sure is lonely, and my kids miss their daily Ramones fix on the way to school.

You play your children The Ramones on their way too school.  If that isn't criteria for a kick ass parent, I don't know what is.    :D

Apple's going to drop that new touch screen sometime in the fall? plus "rumor" says it's 100 GB.  I only have 2.8 GB left on mine, so I got my eye on that as well . . . .

100gb would be sweet...now if they would just build flac support into ipod/itunes it would be the perfect little gadget.  I know I can use some open source firmware for my ipod to play flac files, but then it won't work with my head unit on my car stereo.

Costco has a 90 day no hassle no questions asked return policy on electronics...maybe i should just get a new one there to hold me over and hope that the new models are released before my 90 days run out.

My kids love the Ramones...that and Pet Sounds are their favorites.  They also really like listening to old hardcore bands, especially stuff like early dischord, mostly I think because the find all the screaming really funny and they just dig the spaziness of it all.

That's terrible. How did it happen? Was it swiped off your person while you had it, or did you set it down somewhere?

Nope...totally my fault.  I use it mostly in my car and and connect it to my car stereo with a cable that runs to the glove box.  One night not only did i leave it in there but I forgot to lock the car up.  So when I woke up and went out to my car last monday AM, the whole thing was ransacked.  My ipod was the only thing gone.  The left behind a pretty sweet pair of headphones and a bunch of CD's.  It was probably just kids.

The most frusrating thing about it is that the night before one of our dogs woke us up with her barking (which she rarely if ever does at night) and I thought she was just being freaky since she's kind of a nut anyway.  Good ol' girl probably saw the whole thing happen cuz about 15 min later when I came downstairs she was sittting on the chair looking out the window right where my car was parked.

Next time I'll definately go right down if she barks like that.

BTW, how's it going with the new bundle of joy Celeste and Rhett??  I know first hand those first few weeks can be pretty crazy!

This is good to know.  I have the 10 GB model and am constantly deciding which albums to take off.  My iPod also doubles as my stereo.

Things are great, thanks! We are adapting.

The Costco 90 day plan sounds like a good way to satisfy your current need and have the option to upgrade. I know that when I was commuting day to day I  would have really missed having mine.

Ipod - schmipod.

I don't need to carry my entire music collection from the past 35 years around with me so I have absolutely no use for one.

Same with cellphones, just sell me one that makes a fucking phone call without dropping out in mid converfuckingsation.

I see all these chumps walking around the dealership with these brand new $600 I-phones, which will be $29.99 with activation by years end.

In my case I live in a studio and use my iPod as my stereo.  It's also great for when I go running.  Though I will agree with you on the iPhone.  That is absurd.

So you really can't see the convenience and fun of carrying around your 3 or 400 favorite albums in your pocket, all wrapped up in nifty package with a great interface, and reasonably priced to boot?

Quit your hating you grumpy old fart.   ;)

i like my Hi-MD minidisc better. it uses 1 Gig discs, and has no hard drive, but i can use it to record shows without Atrac/mp3 compression. i recorded Slint, Dinosaur Jr and Mono with it so far, and plan to use it for the cure/65days show. its small as hell, plus i can record albums onto MD and use it as a walkman if i wish.

I'm with Roadbike Mankie on this one.  Once again, feverishly having to have the latest, coolest, worthless thing smacks of the eighth grade.  I don't even own a cell phone.  Plus, the iPod has that stupid, piece of shit, trendy, sterile, simple design.  People who own iPods are merely sheep.

Thanks for the reactionary verbal diahrrea.

What really smacks of the 8th grade is your parrot-like recitation of of these idiotic pseudo-socialist concepts.

How did you ever come up with such radical theories....by reading the liner notes of a Crass album?

In principle, I tend to agree with you.

However, my wife got me a modest sized (by boardie standards) ipod for my 40th birthday, and now that she is home with the child and I'm taking the Metro all alone (we used to ride together), having 80 albums or so to choose from every day makes the ride much more bearable.

And I never had a cell phone until now, either. But she insists that we need them in case of emergency. With a pay as you go plan, it's only about $100 per phone per year, plus the initial $20 investment. We may cut back to one phone. I'm definitely not a cell phone kind of guy, but if it makes her happy, I'll happily live with it.

I don't know about Karl Marx but I used to really be into Consolidated and "Generation Terrorists"-era Manic Street Preachers.
