In California, if the crowd is terrible, the band gets a refund.

Jealous because DC has 2 or 3 good music venues and SF and LA has 10 each ?  hehehe.

I dunno, I never heard the amount of talking during sets at nyc shows that I hear at DC shows. NYC audiences win versus DC ones in my book.

That's a good place to start, though I would have started with Amoeba.

I was in LA last year for a few weeks and saw a bunch of shows.  Nothing about the LA crowds indicated that they were great or "ruled," at least not anything that put them head and shoulders above DC.  I saw the same jaded, elitist pricks I see here except they're more obsessed with fashion.  I thought they were definitely rowdier than DC crowds but that's not incredibly hard to do.  LA was definitely great though with something going on every night at the 20 or so odd clubs sprawled throughout the city.  I came back to DC really spoiled.  And Amoeba was fantastic.  I think I could've been in there a week and still not have combed through the entire store.  What was your experience like?

i'm there every three or so months and have seen a lot of shows out there, so i was just wondering.  i guess it really depends on how you look at it, though.  the elitist pricks are going to be everywhere you go, LA just has an unnatural number of them.  but you either laugh it off or take it to heart.  and i'll tell you what...the people there sure are a lot more interesting to talk to in between bands   :)
