can't find the old thread, but this should be a great show ... cernoch, will you have any of those posters for sale at the club?
-
I'll be there, posters will be on sale at the merch booth. Don't know how much they are going to be yet, I'm going to have to talk to Scott about that. No more than $20. They are big and nice.

might be there.
should be a better show than the blackcat since hell be with a mc...
really want to see local hero do his thing
-
do people think a lot this place will get filled? The three times I have seen him at the blackcat, pre owe, and after owe, and once after sbs the club was not packed, in fact it was pretty dead... i was pretty shocked to see them play 930 with the edan... but more power to them if they pack the house, hope they do...

That was my concern as well, I love Prefuse, I would love to see that place packed. I hope people show up. RJD2 sold out the 9:30 Club, I really thought no one was going to go, so who knows. The Edan write up in the City Paper may help too. I gave 9:30 about 20 posters to put up around town to promote this show. Also, I did a bunch of handbills that I passed out around DC and VA. I would really like to see a good crowd.
-
RJD2's buzz/rep is unreal (almost on an overrated level -- he's good, but pretty overrated IMO) --- so between that and 9:30's sellout rate (still amazes me to this day), i wasn't really surprised about that one selling out.
i'm wondering too about the size of the crowd for this show, b/c i also went to the Black Cat show and also thought that it wasn't really filled or live for that matter. that's why i'm planning to get my ticket at the door.
Edan is pretty dope. i've been looking forward to seeing him live for years now and heard that he's pretty dope live. all and all --- prefuse is going to get busy regardless --- i just hope that his setlist will be better than the Black Cat show's one.

that's what i was thinking ... he's really made inroads into mainstream audiences, much more so than similar artists who (i think) are more accessible than he is ... i like prefuse (especially his first two albums) a lot more than RJD2, for whatever that's worth
-
yea the 1st time i saw prefuse it was pretty dope, and the 2nd time was okay, but the most recent time it wasnt the same. less people in the club, and just seemed liked he was djing a small party... no hype. love his albums, and im sure he will rock it tonight with a mc. i am going to try and make it, i remember edan use to do shows in dc back back in the day on some real underground rap shit...those were the days. i was shocked when rj sold out, but still i liked the blackcat show better. im going to see rj and print in bmore on sat, and i heard that they are unstoppable together live...

I was kinda let down that the Soul Position Tour didn't stop through DC.

make the trip up...its not too far a drive.
but i feel yea, i dont understand why b'more is getting all the love recently. maybe lower rent for shows?
but it seems all the ug indie hip hop acts are stopping in b'more and forgetting about dc.
thankfully, ace and ud and the coup are stopping by to the blackacat.

this album is nasty, i'd check it out if they were at black cat or something, not worth the drive otherwise

giving this another listen:

and i'm really digging it this time around, i think reviews of it when it came out were a little overly harsh

you didnt like their new one? it was very solid.
also i heard that their live show is great... not your typical dj in the back mc rocking the mic type sh*t.

i just have that album and his first two as prefuse (vocal studies / one word extinguisher), none of the side projects ... any of them essential?

not sure havent had time to check it out. i have been listening to the dilla cd for a while. i cant get into his spanish stuff, but i hear that piano overload, or overboard is nice.
-
his Piano Overload stuff is pretty cool. though inconsistent overall -- it's more experimental and moody than the usual Prefuse73 stuff (along the lines of Savath and Savalas -- also dope)
i'm still debating on going to see Soul Position -- namely b/c i want to see Blueprint live but you never know what to expect soundwise at Sonar. their two albums are alright, but it seems like they should be almost on another level --- especially since their solo/side stuff are pretty heavy (Blueprint moreso IMO, once again -- RJ is good, but nowhere as good as he's getting credit for IMO).
i'd imagine that they'd kill live though b/c Blueprint has that type of live energy it seems.

that's the only soul position record i have ... i'm really not that into the hip-hop scene, just have a few albums here and there

Here is a great live mix by prefuse 73 done back in 2003. It features a lot of stuff from his first 3 albums.

See you guys down there...
-
good show tonight for sure
edan and prefuse73 were both awesome
-
Badass show
-
review review...
did edan flow on prefuses beat?
did edan make beats on the spot?
-
really great show last night
edan/dagha was a nice opener ... edan had a lot of tricks up his sleeve like cernoch was saying on the other thread, but he flowed really really well with dagha ... played the first half of velvet underground's "femme fatale", used "strawberry fields forever" at one point, and his finale was a great shoutout to the history of rock music, narrated "subterranean homesick blues" style by dagha flipping through all these old album covers (VU, 13th Floor Elevators, Hendrix, Talking Heads, you name it) as cue cards while edan flowed
looked like edan had a lot of people in the crowd (he grew up in rockville/bethesda), and a lot of those folks didn't stick around the whole night, but the place was pretty full by the end of edan's set
i really didn't know what to expect from prefuse, it kind of reminded me of when i went to see M83 last year ... loved a lot of his recorded stuff, but just didn't know what to expect from the live show (how many people on stage? MC? live instruments?)
anyway, like the M83 show, prefuse really blowed me away ... he played some really heady shit, much more on the IDM/trippy jazz type of side than his hip-hop productions, (edan didn't come out with him) and the live drummer just added so much to the sound ... i have a hard time describing the music because i'm really not that into IDM/electronic/trip-hop stuff, but it was really top-notch, and leagues away from a lot of his hip-hop recordings ... first show i've been to in a while where i wished i had something stronger than bourbon floating around in my system
prefuse came out afterwards and signed our posters, was a really nice guy
