Ok, so this is WAY early....well, 5 1/2 months early, but i found that the dates are announced for next years festival.
April 30th and May 1st are the show dates.
I thought I'd tell you so that anyone planning on going could get a jump on pre-booking rooms.
Its my third year going, and not taking anyone else's advice..I found my own room....in walking distance to the show (1 mile)
if you are interested.....check out the Travelodge on Hwy 111....$125 a night, kinda steep but if you tried to get out of that lot on Sat last year....you'll know its worth it.
-
eh hem. some of us like our dusty freezing cold at 3am loud campground with 2 hour lines for showers.

i know. and i said, one year I'll camp. But i think I'll save that for Glastonbury.

Thanks for the head's up, Sonick. I have a airline credit voucher to cash in... :D I did have fun at this year's festival, which was my first time there, definitely looking into returning.

i don't think there's any lineup that could get me back to coachella. coachella and then ACL totally soured me on festivals (which i wasn't a huge fan of in the first place). in both occasions the temperatures were unseasonably warm at both shows. the crowds sucked (i would say the acl crowd was more annoying to me than coachella). i don't think the lineup could be better in my eyes for coachella unless they start raising some people from the dead. there were way too many overlaps of things i wanted to see and at times it was hard to get in to see what you wanted.
as far as saturday's parking lot, we got out with no problem. when we arrived, we ended up being put on the edge of one of the lots right by an exit, so it took us less than 5 minutes to get out of the lot. it sucked walking to the show, though, from that location.
-
I loved it last year and missed this year's but look forward to catching up next year! Let us know when the line-up is announced!
-
Have they announced The Smiths reunion as the headliner yet?
-
If the lineup is decent, I'll probably go back. I had a blast last year, besides the whole getting out of the parking lot situation. We also decided go to kinda late last year and had to get a hotel out in Hemet which was like 90 mins away. I really didn't mind that because the drive through the desert was beautiful for Virginia kids like us, and it was easier to get back to LAX early Monday morning.

definitely, its been getting more popular each year, so I woiuld imagine the lineup is going to be pretty great. I am hoping for a U2/Chemical Brothers headlining bill.....
a Smiths re-union would be nice. The line-up usually starts trickling out Mid-January...
-
How do you know this is definitely the date? Just going by what a hotel says on their website is not necessarily the dates....
Goldenvoice has not announced anything yet.
-
i heard a rumor of a coldplay/nin coheadliner, but i forget where

that's what i've heard too (with new order and outkast thrown in there somewhere too).
it was a great experience last year, but i think only a smiths reunion could drag me out to that again.

its the date. i know. and i didnt see it on the internet.
besides, even if you dont trust or if my source is wrong.....booking a hotel is free and very cancellable.
but its 4/30-5/1. and I'd say they have no intention of getting Coldplay to play.
but they are hush hush about the old headliners in case someone dies again like in 2003.

A little birdie told me that you can just about count on U2 playing the Polo Grounds. Now, the question becomes whether they play the Coachella Festival, a revival of the US Festival (for those that are old enough) or if they combine the two.

i know, i know, but shhhhhhh...dont go jinxing anything!!!

how bout a little birdy come talk to BigYawn and let us in on the details....eh?

i'm thinking people wont be able to see the stage with all the cellphone cameras there, it's going to be the 9:30 Interpol audience X 4000. So unless the Sugarplastic, who will be releasing the best album of 2005, are playing I wont be there.

not really. with the factors that its out in the middle of nowhere....at least a 2 hour drive for virtually everyone, its kinda expensive AND very hot, the "Interpol" crowd probably wont make much the effort to go.
besides, Interpol played there 2 years ago, when i dont even know if they had a video out (i idont know if they do know, though) and the Killers were there last year, well before anyone heard "Mr Brightside" and Muse before "Time Is Running Out" was on HFS.
the interpol crowd wants to be cool, but they wont fly to the desert to be cool....i mean, its like 104 degrees out there!!! thats not cool.

Is that their big radio hit?

yes. it is.

Exactly...there were not a lot of gothed-out Cure fans walking around the polo grounds this year. They would have melted! ;)
I think if people go to Coachella, or any festival for that matter, with the intention of seeing only one band, they're better off staying home. It's supposed to be fun!
-
my point is that as coachella becomes more well-known its going to become an event that people will attend regardless if they like who is performing or not. so you'll get those bored space taking up fans or worse the mosh to anything crowd...

But that happens at shows of any size. Those casual fans aren't going to become the majority anytime soon.

Did anyone else catch Broken Social Scene at last year's Coachella? They had a great US Festival joke in between songs. Maybe about 30 people in the crowd got it the first time. I felt so old. Well I guess I can always watch Bands Reunited.

those bored taking up space fans tend to be the ones who know which bands they want to see, and dont care to see any of the other bands. not the ones who are there to seek new music.
-
well then, heres the first band i suppose....
Rilo Kiley (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000725801)
"Until then, Lewis and Rilo Kiley have plenty on their plate. "We're going to Europe with Bright Eyes in February, and I think to Japan with them as well," she says. "We'll come back and do another tour -- we're playing Coachella and Bonnaroo."

I'm seeing the guy again on Friday for poker night. I'll see if he's interested in giving you the scoop.
-
There's a thread on Velvet Rope about Coachella '05 started by someone who pretty much nailed the 2004 line-up. If he's even 85% accurate, it. will. kick. ass.
-
And all this time i couldnt figure out what was missing from a great weekend of new rock tunes and cutting edge dance music....
old washed up performers like Bowie, Stipe and Tears for Fears......what? the Beastie Men didnt wanna play again?
lol. I am still going with U2......
-
Yeah - they should be sticking to those new cutting edge bands like The Pixies, The Cure and U2.
-
Isn't their supposed to be a Field Day Fest again this year? Have we heard rumoured lineups for that?
-
squarepusher and boards of canada look inviting.
-

yep...as does phoenix (especially since they're skipping DC on that upcoming mini-tour)
-
pretty fantastic line-up

at least U2 is still making good music.
there was no need to have the Cure play, and i doubt a Tears For Fears reunion is equal to the Pixies.....
I heard they had the Clash booked in 2003 til Strummer passed. enter RHCP. :(

i have absolutely no complaints on skipping out on both the crappy short flaming lips set and the cure set. as far as the lineup goes as of that list, i'm really just eyeing day 1. i'd rather have one good day there especially if it's nearly as hot as it was this year. i'm hoping the temps will be a bit closer to average if i do end up going. we'll see, though... of course i said i was done with festivals after coachella this year and then i went to acl.. and after acl i said no more festivals.. bleh

I've thought of that. and we decided that, the whole trip cost us $800 a piece to go both days (we stayed in San Diego for 2 nights before). and we figured it would save about $110 a piece to not go the 2nd day. not much difference, to be honest.
but yeah, that heat.....a killer! esp for a damn Canadian!

here's what pollstar has to say:
Coachella 2005?
Updated 10:31 PST Wed, Dec 01 2004
A totally unofficial, yet highly probable, partial line-up for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2005 is running rampant on the Internet.
Festival organizer Goldenvoice says "nothing has been confirmed" but that's not going to keep fans from getting excited about who might be coming to Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., this spring.
There are plenty of hot acts on the list and a number of surprises, including David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, and Coldplay.
And it wouldn't be Coachella without a bevy of buzz bands. The 2005 edition that's being circulated includes recent Shortlist Prize winner TV On The Radio, as well as Dogs Die In Hot Cars, Death From Above 1979, and Iron and Wine.
Goldenvoice isn't saying when the official roster will be announced, but here's the not-so-secret preview to whet your appetite:
April 30
David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, PJ Harvey, Interpol, The Faint, Franz Ferdinand, Polyphonic Spree, Boards of Canada, TV On the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Squarepusher, Clinic, French Kicks, Secret Machines, Phoenix, Beep Beep, Dogs Die In Hot Cars, Death From Above 1979, and The Helio Sequence
May 1
R.E.M., Tears For Fears, Wilco, Bright Eyes, Jimmy Eat World, Mos Def, Badly Drawn Boy, The Streets, Cake, The Shins, Sleater-Kinney, Rilo Kiley, Radio 4, Doves, Iron and Wine, The Arcade Fire, and Moving Units
-
That early leaked lineup is a hoax. Here's the real deal:

how does Derrick May get in there? does he spin in the DJ tent all day long??? by himself??
-
from what i've heard he could do that :D lineup subject to change.
-
Stone Roses!?!?! Last I heard, John Squire was squashing every periodic Roses reunion rumour he came across (aka, that the NME reported/created). If this is true, I sure hope they do a reunion tour, so I don't have to trek all the way out to melt in the sun to see them.

Of course, I'd love to see Husker Du, but hell will most certainly freeze over before that one ever happens. Then again, I said the same things about the Pixies.
-
2005 site is now up (http://www.coachella.com/)
(And, K8teebug, note the dates are April 30-May 1.)
-
Wall Of Voodoo???
But they're mostly dead.
Will Lynryd Skynyrd be there too, I wonder?
