Anyone got any ideas on what this movie could be about?
Trailer:

saw the trailer yesterday, it could be another "bad aliens" movie, anyway, I liked the whole "home video" treatment...

January is historically the time of year when crappy movies, ones even the studios realize are crappy, are released

Speculation has centered on Godzilla, Voltron (based largely on people thinking they hear "It's a lion!" in the trailer instead of "It's alive!"), Cthulhu, Evangelion (which would be totally kick-ass), or even a Lost tie-in. On the set, they're referring to the monster as either "Godzilla" or "The Parasite." Since it's JJ Abrams, I'd be inclined to believe that the monster is his own creation (no royalties to pay!) and doesn't get a lot of actual "face time," especially given his record on Lost.
It's a flashback movie: NYC has been destroyed, clean-up crew discovers handheld video camera, presses play, and that's the movie. Here's hoping the actual film lives up to the trailer.

Cloverfield is one of the codenames for the film (others being "Slusho" and "1-18-08"). I read somewhere that Cloverfield is a street name near the studio. The most informative post I've read thus far is here (http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/07/16/cloverfield-1-18-08-updates-coney-island-flashback-and-set-photos/). Apparently JJ will be doing something at Comic-Con today.

do people read threads, or do they just block my posts?

Well, you didn't link to the actual trailer, which is what got me interested (as I haven't seen Transformers yet). This is pretty brilliant marketing...

The marketing for Blair Witch was brilliant, right down to the online interviews with the "family" of the victims who refused to watch the footage and wished the movie had never been made. Right now, I'd give this a "Pretty Good" rating with the marketing unless there's a severe twist in the future that we don't know about.
