Title: Poppies on Patrol
Post by: bearman🐻 on February 23, 2005, 01:46:00 pm
Wow, Pop Will Eat Itself has reformed and is giggin in the UK? How fun would it be to see them with Ned's Atomic Dustbin and maybe get Catherine Wheel to reform and do a tour with the newly-reformed House of Love? I love older PWEI...great stuff. Takes me back to being 14 again  :)

"Attention young ladies, attention young ladies!" Hee hee.

since i've told this story 1001 times, heres the tale backwards...

lead singer ends show wearing blue striped pants over his trousers

 why?

because the duct tape didn't work.

 huh?

the duct tape they tried using to fix the split in his pants.

 tell me more...

that evening the audience got a whole eyeful more of bollocks then it planned on.

so who is sponsoring their comeback this time?  trent reznor tried last time....

Backwards or forwards, Kosmo, that's a funny story.  I know a few starving musicians who only tour with one pair of pants too...LOL - Whoa, Trent sponsoring their comeback would be like Budweiser sponsoring an AA meeting...clueless on the concept.

Cool.  Would love to see them tour here.  I guess maybe the box sets did well enough for them to think they can get some money from a tour.

I saw them back at the old 9:30 Club...packed, it was like a blender at the front of the stage. People stepping on my hands, stagediving, etc. The band was great...I would have loved to hear some older stuff though. I think my favorite song of theirs is still "There Is No Love Between Us Anymore".

Trent was a huge poppies fan who signed them to his record label and everthing.  The album sank in a sea of promos...

Is it my imagination or is the next line, "my favourite way of getting kicks, I go down town and hustle chicks...."

I think someone has broken into bunnymans account.  :p

I love my little Beaver. Come to think of it isn't that song a cover version as well?

I usually was buying them before they reached the dollar bin.  I got doubles of all the old ones that seem to be out of print.

I remember MTV had a big story about Trent putting the Poppies on his label.  Then poof, nothing.

No word on a US tour yet...and yeah, that's "Beaver Patrol", ha ha. I always loved PWEI, though their later records weren't as much fun. "This is the Day..." is a good one though.

I bought this again:   <img src="http://www.swin.edu.au/sbs/media/gallery/david/lilcfs.gif" alt=" - " /> about two weeks ago. I think it is hilarious. Is there anything after that worth bothering with?

I think everything they did is worth it.  Even the Nothing record has some pretty good tracks.  Yeah they lost some humor with time, but they still had great hooks in their songs.

 Not now James we're busy.

And anyone who can mix Lipps Inc. and the Stooges in one song is an artist.

I personally think that the PWEI Product double CD anthology is quite a nice overview that collects most of the highlights. I remember the days when WXRT in Chicago would play the 7-minute long "Sensory Amplification" mix of "X, Y and Zee"...you could also hear on rare occasion "PWEIzation".
