Sorry if this has already been posted. For those interested, tickets seem to have gone on sale this morning at 10:00. Across the boards (including YYY) little was mentioned about it.
-
i know there's a new album due, so do you guys think they'll be back soon?
-
awesome, just picked some up
-
i'm serious.
if anyone can make any assumption as to whether they're going to be back soon or not, please give me your input.
there are about five shows i want to go to in that two week period, and i need to pick and choose. thanks.
-
I doubt they will do club shows (depending on how the album is received). Next time they might be at the Patriot Center... or Godforbid, the HFStival.
-
I would get tickets now. If you don't end up having the time to go, you'll always be able to sell them, since this will likely sell out quick. New song Gold Lion is really good.
-
Thanks for the heads-up on this. I just bought my ticket via tickets.com. I didn't want to take the chance that it might sell out before I got to the box office.
-
maybe i'm way off on this, but i feel like YYY's are much more of a media-hyped group (spin magazine are the lead cheerleaders) than they are popular ... unlike, say, interpol ... i know "maps" broke kinda big, but i just feel like they're not as popular as the media wants them to be
like i said, i could be way off on that, just my gut feeling
-

*ding ding ding!*
If the other tour dates are any indicator, this show will sell out quickly. Beyond the media hype, which I frankly don't see as a negative for YYYs, they have plenty of fans all over. It's interesting, though, that you chose to compare them to Interpol. You don't think they were also part of the SPIN/NYC/NME hype machine when they first hit the scene?
As a side note, Nick Zinner's recent photo book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312340915/sr=8-1/qid=1140921454/ref=sr_1_1/103-9261983-5352601?%5Fencoding=UTF8) is great.
-
This band is more interested in dressing up in vintage clothing and getting in NYC photo-ops that scream 'forced irony' than actually learning how to write a good song and tour. So that should answer your question as to if they'll be back anytime soon.
Fuck these art school trustfunded media-hyped posuer pieces of shit.

I'm gonna have to agree, although not as harshly. Definitely more hype than they're worthy of. There were many doing Karen's schtick far better, years even decades prior to her even considering being in a band. That said, she doesw what she does well. Kinda like going to see Rancid and considering it a legitimate punk show.Imitataton is the sincerest form of flattery. My favorite O is Wendy O

their songs are brilliant. Karen is an amazing performer; she puts every ounce of her being into her singing and the music.
and Nick is horribly talented...
and Brian; he's just cool, 'cause he's jewish.

Yup, I agree too. I thought of Wendy O the first time I saw them.
Also agree with Hoya, the hype in the "indie" community is bigger than reality. They played in New York the other night (the Bowery, I think?) and their set was an hour. And she was doing the indie equivalent of "Hello Cleveland! Are you ready to ROCK???!!!" Being raucaus and "out there" for the sake of it. But, that's just me. I don't get them. Some songs are good. Some are okay. Some are awful. But the whole live thing seems like an affectation.

i don't think the media hype is a negative either, and what i said was really just a hunch, i don't have any sales data or anything like that to back this up ... i just feel that YYY's get a disproportianate amount of ink in the press compared to the amount of people who actually listen to them (if you read spin, you know what i mean, all the year end lists had YYYs at the top, multiple cover shoots, Karen O fetishizing, etc) ... whereas, a group like interpol or death cab gets tons of press, but i also feel like a lot of people listen to them .... maybe i just don't hang out with the cool kids who listen to YYY's all the time!
-
Have the people who are dissing them listened to Fever to Tell? I think that is a very strong album. Good songs, good playing, good production. Her voice can get a little grating, but I think they're going to vary it up a bit with the new album.
-
I'm really surprised this show isn't sold out. I knew it wasn't going to be a DCFC or B&S/TNP, but I still expected it to sell out within the first day, at least.

They've already done HFStival. :/

Ditto, thanks. I jumped in my car and headed to the club yesterday as soon as I read this thread.

It was indie hype that led to an Arctic Monkey sellout before the show was even announced. I've learned to 'believe the hype' and get a ticket early if there's a show I wanna see. (And yet I still lost out on the Stars show!)
-
It was indie hype that led to an Arctic Monkey sellout before the show was even announced.
this show was announced on the mailing list about three weeks before it sold out.
and all this YYY hate is way off the mark. "Fever to Tell" is really the only debut album to hold up well over time from all of those NYC bands.

I think the reason it isnt sold out yet is because it hasn't really been announced anywhere. The only reason I knew about it was because I saw the performance date of April 3rd and knew that they had to be selling tickets soon. I believe the link went up on Thursday through the 930 page on tickets.com alerting a Saturday morning at 10:00 onsale date. Like a previous poster mentioned, unlike the Arctic Monkeys, no hint of this show was put into either the e-mail list or the mailing.

That's okay, you were pretty measured about your comments on them, and they seemed pretty fair. Unlike Julian Porn.

I thought my commentary was spot on. The band dresses like gutter trash. Amazingly, they also sound like gutter trash.

YYYs don't have shows the two days surrounding the 9:30 Date. What are the odds that they play two nights?

so we're judging bands now on what they look like?

No, I'm just pointing out the strange coincedence that they both look - and sound - like vile street urchins. Fever To Tell is maybe the most overhyped album of this decade.
-
well, i don't think it's overhyped. but you're entitled to your opinion.
however, i might not respect it in the future, if the basis of your argument is that the artists look like hobos.

No, there are lots of artists I like that look like hobos. They just don't sound like hobos. The only people I'm really and truly predjudice against are the jews, of course.

Yes, because the "buzz" and "hype" has really flown for Billy Corgan for the last 10 years. What a ridiculous statement.

I realize -- I meant announced publicly in the CityPaper, Post, website, etc. My point was the hype worked -- pretty frickin' fast sellout for a band that's had an album out for mere weeks and was only announced in an email.
-
Hobos? Street Urchins? WTF? They are the exact opposite! Grunge was street urchins and hobos. YYYs are so NOT that. They are completely art school/hipster/NYC I-am-trying-WAY-too-hard.
Ripped tights? Gel in the hair? FAKE! When has that ever been street urchin or hobo? They are MisShapes "get a look for the sake of a look" all the way. It's just the "affected" bohemian look. She buys her tights, opens the package, and tears them. Nick (or whatever his name is), puts more product in his hair than I ever did back in the 80's. Not saying judge a band on their looks, but c'mon, this is more affected than even Duran Duran with their ghey makeup.

Tickets.com says tickets aren't on sale until tomorrow (3/2) at 10:00AM, which is strange because I purchased mine last Saturday morning.
-
Looks like I was about 14 hours early on my "sold out?" post. Does the 9:30 Club do this often, i.e. "soft sale" the concert, take it down, and then advertise/sell the regular way?
-

i'm fucking sick of this.
i tried to buy tickets at 10:04. It said that tickets were still available, but not in to quantity I wanted. Okay.
I check back in thirty minutes and it's sold out.
Thanks pre sale, Spin Magazine, MTV, Rolling Stone, etc. etc. etc.
-
huh?
-
Thanks for being popular, Yeah Yeah Yeahs! The nerve!

It's the "I liked a band before they were popular and now that they're popular I can't get a ticket to their show" syndrome.
-
i'm confused as to why they didn't buy tickets when they had the chance... and place two orders if need be...
-
I'm confused as well Kosmo. I posted an alert last saturday for the people who read the board that tix went up unannounced. Anyone who comes in here to do anything other than complain should have been able to get tix.
-
"They" as in me? Yeah, I tried. Multiple times. Either it was already sold out or tickets.com was having technical difficulties.
I'm fine with them being popular. More power to them. Soft sales/Pre Sales are unfair to the average fan who isn't on multiple mailing lists. There's no way this show would have sold out in twenty minutes any other way. Period.

Again, people shouldn't have to read a message board or a mailing list to be able to buy tickets to a show.
-
sorry for the inability to use the boards today (tried to edit and ended up responding to myself). At least its documented now if anyone wants to get me committed.

You did not have to be on the mailing list. Guess how I found out tickets went on sale last Saturday?? Give up? When I found out tix were going on sale I kept checking the 930 page on tickets.com. Unless you have to be on a mailing list to log in there now...

Can you read? No where did I say that I deserved tickets more than any of their other fans. I'm pissed off about 9:30's system of releasing tickets to the public.
-
sorry i'm confused on whether you could get tickets or not at 10:04, your post suggests that you could get tickets but not in the quantity you wanted... all i'm asking is why you didn't what you could get then and not wait 30 minutes to try again. just curious not being critical...
-
granita, get over yourself. seriously. you're not the only fucking person in the world who likes indie bands. this show has been advertised for weeks, and this thread began at least a week ago; tickets were on sale for over a week before it was announced on the 930 page. you had plenty of time to get tickets. instead, you chose to think that you're the only person who likes the yeah's, and therefore, missed out.
it's not rolling stone's fault they make good music. its yours for simply not buying tickets when you had the chance.
you say that you shouldn't have to read an email newsletter or a message board to buy tickets to a show. but if really watned to go that bad, any of the above wouldn't really be that big of a deal, now would it?
i'm fucking sick of people bitching about not getting tickets because they don't want to take the time to read stuff about when they go on sale, or other stuff along the same lines. then people wnat to go blame scalpers; when in reality, all scalpers are doing is exactly what you're not. their homework.
-

You checked once at 10:04 and once at 10:34? You have to try harder than that if you want tickets to a popular show. You need to start at 9:59 and don't give up until the "sold out" message appears.
-

Okay. I checked the page last week and it said tickets were to be ON SALE on March 2. That's today. I can keep going if you can.
-
that's bullshit, granita. i had 6 tickets in my cart last saturday afternoon. if you checked the 930's tickets.com page, like most normal people who want to see a popular artist do, you would have had no problem getting tickets.
maybe it's not everybody else's fault you didnt get tickets. maybe its your own for not knowing how to read and keep yourself up to date on when stuff goes on sale.

1. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't indie.
2. No, my dear, it's not my fault. When curious about what shows are coming to the 9:30 club, surprise surprise, I check the 9:30 club website!
3. I do read "stuff." Apparently not the right "stuff."
-
well, if you're not reading the right stuff, that sounds like a personal problem. because nobody else on here seems to have had a problem getting tickets.
quit bitching and do your homework next time.

Douchebag, I'm not blaming the fans. I've already said that 9:30's ticketing system in itself is one of favoritism.
Not knowing how to read. Good one!
-
I don't think this was a pre-sale or a soft sale; I think someone (Tickets.com?) screwed up and put the tickets on sale too early, then stopped selling them after a few days, and then started again on the correct date.
-

It used to be worse, when we had the predjudice ticketing system. It wouldn't sell to African Americans. Now it just hates you.

Way to break up the tension around here.

I think what folks are trying to say is that there are folks that come here to get connected to what's going on in the DC concert scene.
And there are folks that come here to bitch that those that are connected have better success with the system. Frankly, I don't get that.
And those that are connected are tired of the folks that aren't connected simply bitching all the time.
It's 2006. Get connected or get left behind.

so what your saying is i need to start a blog like of them new yorkers? of course it would be a bit hypocritical on part :D

I wouldn't count on it. They just sell whatever comes up on the computer.
YYYs tickets were on sale way too long for this to be an accident.

PLEASE say it isn't so. I hate that, when the second show announced is on a BETTER night than the first...I got 8 tickets for Monday, and I HATE Monday shows. I hope to god Sunday sells out to so I can sell my Monday tickets, if that's what happens.

I am a big Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan and I have no f'ing clue that tickets for a 9:30 Club show went on sale. I didn't hear a goddamn thing anywhere. Unfortunately for me the damn thing is sold out.

I might do a poster for this show, even though it's sold out...

i like it! looks good thus far.
and to all the whiners, shut up. a 2nd show is being added. now if you get shut out of that show, nobody around here will feel bad for you whatsoever. in fact, we're all going to laugh at you.

wow, the new album sucks. its like they said 'oh hay, people liked maps...lets make an entire album made up of medicore songs that try to be like maps'
