Title: John Mayer/Buddy Guy Blues Revue
Post by: budog1 on December 30, 2003, 04:07:00 am
I was in New York and caught this Holiday Blues Revue with Buddy Guy and John Mayer being backed up by Double Trouble (SRV's band)...and was blown away by John Mayer's versions of all the SRV songs, man that guy wails!  We've gotta get this show at the club here.

Wouldn't mind seeing Buddy Guy but can't stand John Mayer. A Blue's wail is a good thing.    ;)  Frat boys are not.

At my wifes urging, I went to a John Mayer show last year.  Here's what I learned...

 1. Most of his music is boring-crappy-bland-mix 107.3 garbage

 2. His core audience is abercrombie & fitch frat boys and screaming 15-year old girls

 3. He is a pretty damn good blues guitarist   ;)

Somehow, this reminds me of that scene in "Ghost World" with that Blueshammer band.

That scene was both hilarious and extremely sad.

John Mayer is talented and actually a nice guy.  He played the club a couple years back (2002 maybe?), and rocked.  I thought he would be more DMB Jr. but he had more and since he does play electric, it adds a different flavor.  Not my bag completely (I own none of his records), but I have to give credit where credit is due.

Jason Mraz is DMB Jr., and though I'm not a Dave Matthews fan, Mraz ill-serves the comparison.

I would call him the lobotomized DMB or the pithed one.
