So what's a white guy to do for NYE this year? Versus isn't playing in New York this year so it looks like I'll be staying local. Does anyone know anything about the Taxidermy Lodge thing at Sonar or anything else going on? Hmmmmmmmmmm!
-
Brothers past are playing at the TLA in Philly if you're into the improvised electronic music thing. That's where i'd really like to go if i can score a ride up.
-
I'll be watching a DVD.
-
I'll be asleep.
-
I'll be working :-(..someone has to keep the streets safe!!!

the Taxidermy lounge will also be an Ultraworld party which (i think) means that in the Sonar club they will be doing Tax-Lo which is indie dance/80s/new wave stuff....and in the warehouse next door, full on club techno beats.
should be fun, me and the woman are 99% going....unless i can find 2 cheap flights to Key West, FL. :)
sonar.us will have more details probably in a week or two.

That description almost makes me wanna go, I've heard good things about Sonar as Sonick probably already guessed. But I'm getting lazy at my old age and don't feel like dealing with the traffic/crowds. Someday we'll have to meet up there though.

yeah, friday nights there are cool. it will be a zoo there on NYE but normal fridays arent too crazy crazy.
its a great club though, nice and roomy, great sound and the crowd is the friendliest in Bmoreland.

i'm going to the flaming lips / wilco in nyc.
it promises to be much better than the flaming lips / white stripes in chicago last year.

a friend of mine is going to that. do you know how its working? i mean, is it just like a normal show? or can you wander the venue and do other special New Years Eve-like things.
seems really cool, but i dont know about spending NYE in one seat all night.

Here is the link (http://sonar.us/dec31page.html)
So, I found this.... $15 cant be beat.
Looks like its going to be mostly electronic/dance music in the Warehouse/Concert Hall which holds about 500 people. The "Club" looks to be a bit of a hodge-podge.....dance/80s/indie what not, and the lounge looks to be more 80s/funk/silly party music.
the place holds over 1000 and i am now kicking myself in the ass for ending employment with the club when they moved to thier bigger venue.....

I am going to play mini-golf (http://www.orbitzandgo.com/puttputt/)
In fact, I'm getting a ton of practice right now.

i would assume that it's just a normal show with wilco playing when the new year starts. i wouldn't be doing anything interesting if i weren't going to this show, so sitting in a seat (or standing) and watching a show really isn't a big deal to me.

In this area, it's become increasingly worse over the years. If 9:30 had someone on the bill I want to see, I'd be there.

I read somewhere that New Years Eve/Day is celebrated by more people in the world than any other holiday.
it was cool going to NYC for the year 2000 and watching people from all over the world when 12am hit for them.
12am, stop for 3 seconds, make sure the world didnt end, start celebrating.....good stuff
at Times Square we were back on 47th St and about 30 seconds after the ball dropped, fireworks began erupting from Central Park....3 noisemakers started it off and when they sounded, 2 million people gasped...like "shit, they were right, we're all gonna die" and then they saw the pretty colors and all was well....

I must say, NYE is my favorite holiday by far. For many years I hosted parties at bars around town (the Julio's at 16th and U, Townhouse Tavern, etc.). I always have a good time -- it's something everyone celebrates, there's no pressure to go to some family event with disfuntional relatives, you can make it big or small, dressy or messy. LOVE it.

A-men, make it what you will. Last year, I spend a cozy evening indoors with close friends; this year, it's time to party it up!

I read somewhere more people are sent to the emergency room on New Year's Day than any other day. The reason? When holding and then slicing a bagel, a person ends up slicing their hand.
Nothing like the champagne headache hangover.

-
LAN PARTY!!! woo!
-
Once again there is a NYE event in Detroit worth attending.. Romantics, Was (Not Was) and Grand Nationals.
-
NYE sucks for me since I'm underaged. I donno what the hell to do this year. Last year sucked the worst because I was way sick.
-
Bars suck for NYE anyway... just hang out with a few close friends and a bottle of something bubbly, and watch people on TV freezing their asses off in Times Square, and you'll have a better New Year's Eve than 99% of humanity...
-
are you inviting me over?
-
I'm not planning anything for NYE, but I think between Xmas and New Years I might have a little movie night with munchies and stuff to which you and all the other peeps here would certainly be invited....
