i'm still trying to decide on whether to see mogwai or marissa nadler at the talking head. i'll be seeing -- actually opening for -- growing on the 19th at dc9, so i can see them then.

growing didn't play charlottesville saturday because their van broke down. i haven't heard if they made it to the nyc show or not.

ill be there...was granted a photo pass.

great show. i can't until baltimore passes a no smoking in bars/clubs law though...jesus it was smokey as hell..my eyes were watering somethign fierce...and that never happens to me.
anyone catch the name of the scottish singer they said died yesterday (and were playing before the show)?

I'm still suffering from smoke inhalation. I might as well have been in a burning building. I enjoyed the set and have been a Mogwai fan since 1998. They have two distinct styles; pre-Barry Burns and Barry Burns. He was brought in as a multi-instrumentalist a few years back. Their sound drastically changed with his arrival and I must say have been disappointed with each album since Rock Action. And they didn't play Helicon 1 last night. I am sad.

Last night was my first Mogwai live experience. It was amazing.
As far as the smokiness goes... I didn't really notice it being too smokey (Im not a smoker, but maybe Im used to it?), but when I got home I could definitely tell my clothes smelled much smokier than normal. Pretty disgusting. Oh well, what can ya do.

yeah i've been to sonar twice now and i've decided i really don't like it. the first two shows i went to this tour were non-smoking. i'd forgotten that there'd be smoking at sonar. i hate coming home and reeking of smoke. the cat's cradle went non-smoking at some point, so i have that to look forward to tonight.
the sound @ sonar isn't that great. hopefully there'll be a 930 show when they come back through in may.
i didn't have a problem with the setlist personally. they're mixing it up pretty good. first time this tour i have caught helicon 2, mogwai fear satan and like herod (i think there were 1-2 other new-for-me-for-this-tour songs as well).

Thinking about making the trip up to Asheville on Thursday. Worth the 1 hour trip? I know very little about the band. Listened to a handful of songs...

I'm glad to hear they will be back in May since I couldn't make it last night.

i personally would say yes.
1 hour isn't really that bad to me... i usually have to drive at least 2 hours to see a show... if i had the option of 1 hour, i'd go see more stuff i was on the fence about.
i will be at the asheville show tonight...

stay at home and listen to track 1 from CODY over and over again until you stop having the urge to tell other people what to do. if that fails, we'll have the doc put you on an intravaneous "fun house" dosage.
although i did like some older stuff being performed at the show, it was very short. not even an hour including the encore. and very subdued, no need for the earplugs.

fuck off. i never said that a smoking venue would keep me from a show. i appreciate NOT coming home reeking of smoke.

which show are you talking about? all the shows i've seen so far this tour were close to 1.5 hours. the only time i've ever seen them play under 1 hour was in pittburgh in 04 when one of the band members was injured (and no encore).
