Title: For Mankie and the Footballers
Post by: vansmack on September 23, 2003, 11:55:00 am
Mankie,

Catch that match this weekend?  What an abysmal display of class by Arsehole squad.  Unbelieveable.

If you missed it, FSW is replaying it tomorrow at 8 ET, but more importantly, the YES network (through the contract between United and the Yankees) replays the MU.TV broadcast on Thursday.  I can't wait to hear the Manchester announcers discuss the Viera kick, Ruud's miss and the Keown/Laurent/Cole/Lehmann/Parlour debacle.  I've never had more respect for Ruud in my life - if it were me, I would have been throwing punches left and right.  He just ran off.  Nobely I might add for a guy who just missed a game winning PK in stoppage time.

smackie. . .g/f and i are gearing up for a trip to chicago the first weekend of october, should her beloved cubs make the playoffs.  my dad has already told me that i can't root against the giants, so i'll have to hope the cubs face the braves that weekend. . .otherwise, i'll focus on the a's choking in the alds. . .again.  alas.

I gave up on baseball about two months ago, although my new neighborhood is making that extremely difficult.  Serves me right after the euphoria of last year.

Wow - Wrigley for a playoff game.  I'm super envious.

That's Arsehole for ya...unfortunately they're the FA's sweetheart team so very little will come of it. Fergie gets charged for calling the ref a wanker or whatever at the Newcastle game, but this French TWAT gets away with murder for some reason. The players will get some form of supsension Wanger will appeal, they'll drag it out then reduce the suspensions and nothing will change. I just hope Chelsea become the premier team of London.

Then why is it, it always gets brought up when he's running his stinking yap? He's so annoying don't you think?...and shouldn't it be, 'he and his big bank account'? Not sure or trying to be a smart arse, but it doesn't look right for some reason.

I've never seen the A's so happy about a Tim Salmon homerun.... Congrats (again).  I would wish you luck, but it doesn't take luck to win the World Series.  It takes believing.

From the FA web site:

Arsenal - charged with 'failing to ensure the proper behaviour of their players'.

Lauren - two counts of improper conduct for 'confronting Ruud van Nistelrooy after Patrick Vieira's sending-off, and for confronting Ryan Giggs after the final whistle' and two counts of violent behaviour for 'kicking out at Quinton Fortune following the penalty award and for forcibly pushing van Nistelrooy in the back following the final whistle'.

Keown - one charge of improper conduct for 'confronting van Nistelrooy following the penalty miss' and one charge of violent behaviour 'for striking van Nistelrooy on the back of the head following the final whistle'.

Parlour - one charge of improper conduct for 'confronting van Nistelrooy after the final whistle' and a further charge of violent behaviour for 'grabbing at Gary Neville from behind shortly afterwards'.

Cole - one charge of improper conduct for 'his involvement in a confrontation with Cristiano Ronaldo after the final whistle'.

Lehmann - one charge of improper conduct for 'confronting referee Steve Bennett after Patrick Vieira's second yellow card and for then persistently seeking to confront van Nistelrooy'.

Vieira - one charge of improper conduct for 'failing to leave the field of play following his sending-off, and for instead seeking to confront van Nistelrooy and engaging in a verbal exchange with fourth official Neale Barry'.

Giggs - one charge of improper conduct for 'his involvement in a confrontation with Lauren after the match had ended'.

Ronaldo - one charge of improper conduct for 'confronting Martin Keown at the conclusion of the match'.

Were's Wangers charge for failing to condemn, and in fact defend, his players disgraceful behaviour?

and the giants beat the astros. . .and voila, the cubs are in first place.  don't know what i will do if cubs play the a's in the world series, but that doesn't seemed destined does it?  if cubs make it to the series, it'll probably be against the yankees or red sox. . .

but how odd that the yankees, twins and a's all clinch on the same day.
