Title: coat check policy
Post by: ezzedave19 on December 13, 2005, 12:48:00 am
Is there a coat check? I plan on spending several hrs in line for Jason Mraz & obviously need to dress warm. I would like to check the clothing I donā??t need but also do not want to be stopped as I go in i.e. are you forced to check bags as you enter (if you are allowed to at all), If you waited hours in the cold you would want to establish your place, then go check what you no longer need. Can you tell me how this works? Iā??m from NYC & the last time I was there was for Rob Thomas and it was warmer. Also I donā??t have a car, Iā??m staying with friends in Columbia Heights & can walk to the club.  Thanks Dave

Yes, it's on the top floor of the club. You're not forced to check anything when you enter the club. (If you have bags, the door staph will ask to look inside them, but they're pretty cool about it.)

Don't lose your coat check claim ticket!

Why are you waiting in line for so long for a general admission show? Seriously...you're really going to wait in line, rush in to get a spot in front of the stage, and then stay there all night during the opening acts? That's just silly. Don't be mad when the people that came in 5-10 before the headliner waltz their way up to the front and are still warm from their car  :)

Waiting in line for hours for a general admission show is just plan dumb! (even dumber when it's cold outside)

It's true -- unless it is vitally important that you are right at the barrier/stage (which means you can't go up to coat check anyway), if you get there just a bit before doors open (say a half hour, an hour at most), you are fine.  I think you're fine even if you get there a bit after, but some acts have really crazy fans.

holy shit, don't give TM any bright ideas.  First parking, then coat check.

I think Jason Mraz wins some points for touring with Liz Phair and when they played the club, his sound guy (in the middle of the set) cranked "Girls Girls Girls" as the sound guy for Liz went across the stage on a motorcycle (yes a real one).  That is a true rock moment.

I really despise Mraz and his music; he tries so hard to be so cool by faking self-deprecation ("I'm such a geek!")

His opening act is his girlfriend.  The guys in my office think she is way hot:

Touring with Liz Phair might have earned you points 10 years ago, but not now

Don't wait in line, go whenever you feel like it, check your coat, and then push your way to the front. Jason Mraz fans aren't going to do anything about it.

i'm also kind of curious...is there a coat check at The Black Cat?  every time i've been there during the winter, we've never bothered to figure it out, and have just piled all our coats in the corner by the stage.  if there is one though; i most CERTAINTLY will utilize it...

I can't decide which kind of fans are more annoying: the type who arrive hours before the show, stake out a spot on the floor, and think they own a deed to the real estate -- or the people who shove their way to the front and wind up standing right in front of me.

You be betty, the Black Cat has a coat check, which I think is new.  But it SUCKS!  Last week at Bliss/Annie it took me a half hour to check my coat, and then a half hour to un-check it.   I looked over there a few times during the evening and the line never got any shorter.   Until they figure out how to do it effectively, I'm going back to stuffing my coat in a corner and hoping nobody steals it!

That was an awful show...there was little crossover of fans, from what I could tell, and the Mraz fans drove me nuts with their sideways funkalicious b'ball hats and tight little tees.  I got the hell out of there after Liz's not good set.

I don't think there was, but there is now, as of about a month ago. It's where they used to sell the CDs and T-shirts. The CDs and T-shirts have been moved over next to the mini-bar on the right (facing the stage). I used the Black Cat coat check when I was there for Rogue Wave actually, but I first saw it at the Echo and the Bunnymen concert ten days earlier.
