Title: what's 9:30 like?
Post by: jldameika on December 13, 2005, 04:12:00 am
i'm new to the area, and have never been to the club... and have only seen live bands at either really huge outdoor venues, or small bars. how big is 9:30? what the crowd like? i'm going to see disturbed on the 20th and want to know what to expect... do you just kinda stand around and watch or are there tables? i'd love it if someone could give me good details about the place... i hate looking like a tourist, lol. thanks!

Well........don't take your car unless you pay for parking in the club lot or it is most likely going to get broken in to. Secondly, don't hang around outside the club for too long or you might get caught up in a drive-by. Third, if you like a drink at a show then be sure to take loads of money, might I suggest a second mortgage. Fourth, never make eye contact with the 'bouncers' or they are more thank likely going to drag you outside and give you a serious beat-down...especially the big fucker with all the piercings and tatoos, that sicko is a sadist. Finally, be sure to visit Bens Chilli Bowl for and ask for their nightly ebola specials.

 Enjoy the show!

Don't mind Mr. Mankie, like many of us on this message board, he has a built in keyboard function that sometimes only allows typing sarcasm.  There's also one for irony but the sarcasm button is used more frequently.  We forget to turn it off sometimes before typing.

The club is great, one of the best in the country.  The Disturbed show will probably be packed, get there early if you want to find a good viewing spot.  There is a large floor area in front of the stage and there is a second floor balcony level. And also a smaller third floor area, which offers a great view and sound, but you're farther away.

Many bars in the club, only 1 or 2 take credit cards, so bring cash if you drink (but there is an ATM on site).

If you're not familiar with the area, either take the Metro or pay in advance for parking (can do that via tickets.com) and you are guaranteed a parking spot no matter what time you arrive.  For a sold out show, on-street parking will be tight.

The security staff is great; very professional.  But, do not be an ass or try to do something illegal, they won't tolerate it.  They will kick you out in a heartbeat (albeit in a professional manner).

If you want to drink, bring your I.D.  Even if you look like you're 50 years old, no I.D., no drinks.

 Have fun.  Great venue.

Sarcastic, except for the thing about taking a second mortgage if you want to drink.  That is truth!

I have heard that there WILL be tables and chairs for the Disturbed show. But usually there are not.

A quick correction to an earlier post: Three of our four bars accept credit cards. As you walk through the double doors onto the main floor, the bar directly to your right as you face the stage, is a cash bar only. All the other bars accept cards.

They'd need to really, you wouldn't want to be walking around that neighbourhood with enough cash to buy a couple of beers in your pocket.

Thank for all the reply's  :)  it wasn't even up here 24 hours.... Now I'm even more excited about seeing the show, since I know a little more of what to expect. If I have a good experience, I might just become a regular   :p

I forgot to add...in addition to the tables and chairs at the Disturbed show, there will be a complimentary glass of wine for everyone over 9 years of age.

Expect Disturbed have some sort of interaction with this audience. The 9:30 Club usual dictates 1/3rd of the band's set be composed of audience requests/allowing audience members to preform with the band. Another 1/3rd of the set is traditionally set aside for the signing of autographs - during the set! The venue also is top notch in that they've hired extra employees whose main purpose during the evening is to help audience members get setlists or part of the band's gear to take home as memorabilia.

Don't be alarmed by the two junkies hanging around by the front door.  They may look intimidating, but Leon and Reggie are among the most beloved regulars at 9:30.

You won't be able to swing a cat without hitting some art-fags.
