Just thought these guys deserve their own thread.
And please answer me this. Why is Death Cab for Cutie, who are comparable but far inferior to Nada Surf, so much more popular?
-
i'll be there.
-
I'll be there. Sold out now. Need 2 more tickets though!
-
The show is going to be broadcast on NPR.
-
Wow, Nada Surf with a 930 Club sellout. Unbelievable! I remember when they played at the Sidebar a long time ago. Ozma and Rilo Kiley were opening. When I got there it was sold out. After Ozma was done, everyone left and they let me in to see Nada Surf! Ahh how Let Go changed everything!
-
I'll be there.
(and at Death Cab Rhett, ha.)
-
You can win a pair of tickets here:

I'll be at Nada Surf. I've never seen them before, so I'm looking forward to it.
-
I'm not in Chicago as planned, and now the show is sold out. I might head down to see if anyone is selling. Or, should I just listen via NPR? Heh.
-
check to see if that guy in the ticket forum still has his tickets to sell. Looks like there might be a couple of other sellers on craigslist.
I'm stoked for the show :)
-
I'll be there. Their show at the Black Cat a few years ago was great, hopefully this will be equally good.
-
Guess it's gonna be NPR for me.
-

really? i think it is really good. it's not quite as amazing as the last two, but it is definitely up there. whose authority and the fox are two sweet songs.
-
That was my initial thought, but it's grown on me.
It'll never be as good as Let Go, but then again few albums (by anybody) will.

Do they do "Popular?" Or are they too cool to do it now? I bet they think they are too cool to do it but they do it first to get it out of the way.

I just looked at a bunch of recent set lists .. they don't do it much anymore, if at all.
Sometimes they include it in the encore apparently.
-
I've seen them several times and I've never (thankfully) heard them do that song.

I've seen them do it.
At the 9:30 club.
When they opened for Jawbox.
Come on, that song rocks. All the rest are snoozers.

If you hear a girl screaming and crying during the "80 windows" song, it would be me!!! :)
One day left...

You're really dating yourself with that comment.

I also saw the Dismemberment Plan open for Jawbox.
-
Wish I could be there, but im seeing Spoon in Norfolk with the Walkmen instead...
-
I saw Rilo Kiley open for Nada Surf.
-
I still need a ticket. If anyone has an extra and can meet up either during the day(i'll come to you) or before 7 at the venue, please let me know ASAP
-
nada surf >>> death cab
it's a grower, give it another chance ;)

Definitely there. I'll be the guy making out w/his wife during "Blonde on Blonde" while my sister-in-law looks around desperately for a tall, skinny geek to hold her.
Side note: agreed on "Lucky" being a grower. After 2 listens, I thought the lyrics were their worst yet and the melodies were bland. The lyrics are still stupid ("Just look at the size of you!"), but I've come around on the melodies.
-
i tried dude, proximity effect awesome let go awesome weight is a gift real good...this just boring boring boring, like i said they have finally conformed to the barasuk sounds or whatever it is...
-
amazing show. aww fuck it, i'm gonna have a party.
-
They had to cut Popular and Paper Boats from the set last night because of the time constraints of an early show. Too bad because I love Paper Boats and have never heard them play Popular. I had a blast, though. They inspired much making out in the audience
-
I can't imagine Blankest Year made it to the NPR broadcast.
-
fuck, why not?

The gross underage couple in front of me was making out before the show even started. Just a rant, but the girl was in the front row and had her back to the stage the entire time so she could be embracing her boyfriend, who didn't seem overly into the show either -- why not just stay home and make out on the couch while listening to an album? So annoying.
As far as Nada Surf though, I thought they were terrific and I don't really have any complaints. It was a great start to the night. I'd love to see them again sometime.
-
Ha, i was about 3 people over from the making out couple. Did you yell for Blizzard of '77 when they came back out?
As someone who only knows about 1/2 of Nada Surfs material, i thought they were pretty good live. I liked the mirrors they had placed on stage.
-
No. That's one of my favorite songs by them, but I'd already seen a bunch of set lists for this tour so I knew exactly what they were going to play in the encore and didn't feel the need to shout since it was coming anyway.
-
I was wondering about Paper Boats... I think I've seen them 7 or 8 times since Let Go came out and they have played it at every show. I really love that song, it might be my favorite. It is a definite grower though. As for popular, I've never heard them play it and I'm glad they didn't cut something else to squeeze it in. I'll take Blonde on Blonde over popular any day.

My pie last night was DELICIOUS, in fact it could be called DANGEROUSLY Delicious...
