i'm still feeling my ears from last night's VHS or Beta show. this despite my NRR 30+ foamies. anybody have experience with the ER-20s or custom fit ER-25s or something else effective?
-
i live by my etymotics, love'em, they're my constant concert buddies. they're comfy, easy to put in and sound a bzillion times better than foam earplugs. one of the wiser $12 purchases you'll ever make. anything else i can tell you?
someday i'll spring for the custom fit. hum, xmas *is* coming up...
-
I'll second those ER's.
Pretty sure you recommended them to me, actually.

Where can I find those?
thanks...
-
I have 'em too, they're quite good. Get 'em here (http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx).
-
Love them as well. I can hear everything perfectly and not have any ringing the next day.
-
in theory, the foamies should provide better protection than the er-20s but in practice i think i am not jamming the foamies into the ear far enough.
the er-20s look more ergonomic and no one here is complaining about hearing symptoms the next day, so they must work.
i will get a pair or two. what color should i choose?

Earplugs are for the weak....

order them directly through www.etymotics.com (http://www.etymotics.com), something like $12 a pair plus a few bucks shipping.

... and the un-deaf. or at least those who can still hear above 10kHz.

my latest pair are (caucasian) skin-toned, i chose that color in hopes that it makes them less obvious. good call on grabbing two pairs. personally i can never find small things like that when it matters, so having two pairs doubles my chances of finding them (and making it to the show on time).
-
i like www.earlove.net (http://www.earlove.net)
thats where i got mine from. dont know if theyre cheaper or not.

I just couldn't let the conversation continue any longer without stealing your line...

they also can cause an unnatural build-up of earwax, which can lead to damaging pressure against the eardrum, if worn too much.
is california still the state of dreams?

i buy the foamies in bulk and stuff them in a pocket of every jacket and pair of slacks.
i found a place that sells ER-20s in bulk, 50 pairs for $340, $7.40 a pair. group order? j/k
-
I bought my friend a a pair of earloves and he likes them. Still haven't bought a pair for myself. I use the foam ones I get for free at work.
-
I always feel like the foam earplugs don't fit properly, and when I take them out and try to re-roll and re-insert them, they fit even worse.
I like the Mack's silicone ones (I think 22 db?).

I got these for every one of my concert-going friends, and they all love them. Even those who swore they'd never wear plugs eventually cave....
-
i find the ear plugs also stuff up the ears if worn too long. specially designed ones with vents cost a lot more.
what's funny are the people who come unprepared for the volume and stuff tissue paper into their ears.

Though I maintain that GGW nailed it with his Earplugs are for the weak line, some of you might appreciate these:
Dubs from Doppler Labs (http://techcrunch.com/2014/09/23/meet-dubs-doppler-labs-reinvention-of-the-lowly-earplug/?ncid=fb&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=fb&utm_content=FaceBook)

interesting, I might have to get a pair. God I hate those foam ones. The new 930 ones don't look too bad either
-
Someone suggested http://www.earasers.net to me. So far...amazing. I still can hear everything at a normal volume with no lingering post-concert ringing or pain.
-
I love the earloves too. Their noise reduction rating is 12dB.
Foam earplugs actually have a higher NRR, but you have to wear them properly.
Here's a little bit about NRR.
http://www.coopersafety.com/noisereduction.aspx
This is part of what I do for my job!
But, I've found that the earloves work just fine for shows, and they filter out the crap so you can hear the show better. I don't think most shows would warrant a higher NRR (but I've also never taken a dosimeter or sound level meter to a show, either).
I would want a higher NRR for Mogwai or Fugazi though.

Whatever ones sweetcell recommended me a few months back are great.
-
I've had these custom earplugs with the 15 db filters for about 5 years now and they work great. Well worth the investment.

i might have to look into these. how fragile is that probe thing that sticks out? hopefully it's flexible and can be bent, otherwise i'm going to break it way too quickly.

etymotics, http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html. still my go-to.
