yea - it's a bit early. but it gives you more time to discover.
i'll throw this one out to start:
Revival by soulsavers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp1rL7DI_D4)
always a good year when Lanegan makes the list
-
Easily the song I've listened to the most/loved the best was the Marnie Stern vs. Lil' Mama mash-up "Absorb the Lip Gloss." No joke, I listen to it close to once a day.

I listen to Radiohead covering the Smiths about 46 times a day.

I have recently been really digging Peacebone off of Strawberry Jam.
-
I'd second that one as well.

Equestrian by Les Savy Fav.

For Reverend Green is my favorite off Strawberry Jam.

Yeah, I'd go with that or Fireworks.
-
According to my iTunes:
1. Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne
2. Falling Slowly - The Frames (US '07 release)
3. Gimme More - Britney Spears
4. Sky Blue Sky - Wilco
5. Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John (although I'm pretty sure it's an 06 release - I didn't get it until 07)
-
Also seconded. And I'll add in the Lil' Mama remix too, since I love her.

Josh Ritter - Right Moves
Robbers on High Street - Crown Victoria

radiohead's "all i need" is the most beautiful song that i've heard this year... haunting. PJ Harvey's "dear darkness" gets most emotional and creepiest of the year award.

...worst song of the year. So stupid, retarded and annoying anyone who likes it should be profiled. It would be the worst song of ANY year. You can't even like it ironically.
I refuse to do "Songs of the Year," "10 Top Discs of 2007," etc. Although, I did like "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance and "Hey There, Delilah" by Plain White T's.

a few i liked (very unscientific):
apples in stereo - can you feel it?
spoon - rhythm and soul
arcade fire - intervention
against me! - thrash unreal
klaxons - golden skans
panda bear - bros
blitzen trapper - country caravan
-
my favorites so far:

and the entire maps album - i couldnt even pick just one
-
I have no idea as to how Bros slipped my mind.
I want to change mine. :)
-
Thirded...and maybe add Comfy in Nautica as well. Those songs are near perfect. Oh, and Crystal Cat...I don't really love the Dan Deacon album, but that is a killer song.

Great song! I played that during dinner at a wedding two weekends ago and, more than any song I played, people came up to me and asked me who it was. I think I even sold a few tickets to their show next week because the show was moved from the Mezzanine to the Fillmore.
-
The New Pornographers - Adventures In Solitude
The National - Mistaken for Strangers
They're generic, I know.
-
According to iTunes:
1. Gogol Bordello - Wonderlust King
2. Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining
3. Spoon - The Underdog
4. Against Me! - Stop
5. Mad Caddies - State of Mind
-
Low - Hatchet
St. Vincent - Your Lips are Red
Budos Band - His Girl
I also really liked Feist's One, Two, Three, Four (though it did get a little old once it was all over tv)
-
The Bishop Allen song came out on their July 2006 EP.

Christ, this happens every year. Stop being so pedantic. First of all, it doesn't freaking matter wheter a song is "new" or "new to you".
Second of all its on an album released in July of 2007, which is probably how the majority of people came across it, not on some inside baseball, "hey lets release an EP every month in 2006" project.

well if allmy$$ claims its the best song of the year 07 and perhaps a fan of the band - he'd know they released the song in 06 - on yes their full year of EPs. We are talking about song of the year - not album of the year.

I'm about to have the fucking yawn of the year.
Weren't these songs technically reworked for the new full-length? In that case, isn't it a new recording that wasn't available in 2006?
And why are you questioning allmy$$'s fan-ness? Just because he may or may not have had the time to check out one of the 400 kajillion 2006 releases that were hyped online? Give me a break.

and i nver saw any mention of that song being reworked - just that a bunch of songs from the EP made the cut. was just an observation and probably the fact that ive been listening to that song forever that i knew it wasnt released in 07.
next time ill shut up and go with the masses because you obviously know a lot more about music than me.

BIG time second to Klaxons. That's an amazing single. Catchy as anything released this year.
Intervention is up there, but Keep the Car Running is the Arcade Fire track that I'd pick.
Peter, Bjorn and John's Young Folks is definitely on my list.
Some others to throw out there:
Radiohead - Reckoner
Roisin Murphy - Overpowered
Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
Georgie James - Cake Parade
LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum
The National - Fake Empire
The Field - Everday
-
THE VIRGINS - RICH GIRLS
-
and, for the love of christ, the PB&J record came out in 2006.

I stand corrected.
-
it's okay. it's still a really, really good album.
i'm also going to add...
Breakin' Up - Rilo Kiley
West Coast - Coconut Records
House of Cards - Radiohead
Charmer - Kings of Leon (hate the record, love the track)
Saltbreakers - Laura Veirs
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - Mark Ronson
My Moon My Man - Feist
and second, third, fourth, and fifth Peacebone
i'll come back to this..

Sorry I missed this shitstorm...I went back into teaching this year and only get to read this in the evening.
To clear things up: I own several of the Bishop Allen '06 EPs, including the one with Click, Click, Click, Click. This would make me a uberfan.
They reworked the song for the '07 release. The new version, like much of the '07 album, is better than the demo-quality version on the EP.
Hear said tune on myspace:

Yeah - they write great songs. Live, I think they're a little lacking due to some performance issues...but I need to pick up the album.

Ugh! Lily Allen's cod reggae version of The Kaiser Chief's "Oh, My God" is about as bad as a cover version can get. I was so repulsed by it I couldn't listen to the rest of the album. I've never heard "Valerie."

Not to be nitpicky, but Hey There, Delilah came out far before this year... of course I was seeing PWTs over 6 years ago. heh. I know they went through and hashed this out, but 2001 =/= 2007.
Though I am happy to see them getting some airplay, they weren't/aren't the best band out of that scene and in that I'm kinda pissed that better ones aren't making it out.
As for songs, I don't have much. I have very much enjoyed the Sarah McLachlan/Cyndi Lauper mashup of Time after Time; Pat McGee Band's got several good ones off "The Virginia Sessions", Interpol's new cd does too.... I really haven't felt much, if at all, new music that moved me or made me want to go "omg, this fucking rocks" this year. Hoping next year will do that, though.

I've also recently become obsessed with "Thanks I Get," one of the Sky Blue Sky bonus cuts Wilco released.
