May go to this
nothing will beat first 3 shows but rad line up for sure
Oh. My. Lord. Where to start?
On the weekend of September 19-21, My Bloody Valentine will perform in the United States for the first time in 16 years. The occasion? ATP New York, the new American branch of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival. It will take place at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York.
And... jesus... as if a My Bloody Valentine headlining set wasn't enough, ATP New York unveiled just the beginning of its completely astounding 30-act lineup, curated by both MBV and ATP:
My Bloody Valentine
Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On
Meat Puppets performing Meat Puppets II
Thurston Moore performing Psychic Hearts
Tortoise performing Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Shellac
Mogwai
Polvo
Fuck Buttons
Autolux
The Drones
Low
Wooden Shjips
Edan with Dagha
Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra
I think I just peed myself.
In keeping with the spirit of the British ATPs, ATP New York is really, really small. As in, only 3000 people get to go. And you all live on the site for three days, staying in motel and hotel rooms. No single day passes will be available. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 25, at the ATP website.

woah. i'm in.
-
Wow.
-
I don't see a single band on that list that I like. Wow is right. That's pretty impressive to completely avoid my taste range altogether!
-
built to spill and mogwai are cool but other than that...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
wow. i'm definitely in. i imagine that azaghal is having a heart attack right about now.

really? i was under the impression you're in fact rather difficult to please, musically. and the selection above isn't that wide... so you're lack of interest was to be expected.

That's what I was hoping to hear.
Mr. Hurwitz????
-
so farm this lineup is excellent. not much i don't like (seems as if kevin shields still has great taste). however, $225 is very steep and beyond my current budget.
-
I'm going for sure. Are you kidding me? That lineup is pretty damn sweet.
And the price is pretty damn cheap if you think about all that you're getting.

Before you buy rooms, look at this:

Snailhook, how about Wooden Shjips at the velvet around the time of this?
-
wow, thanks for the heads-up about the dumpy on-site accommodations.
from their FAQ:
"The first batch of three day festival passes are on sale Friday April 25th @ 10AM EST at http://www.atpfestival.com (http://www.atpfestival.com) with and without accommodation. More tickets will be on-sale shortly after with accommodations in a nearby hotel. Shuttle buses will run between the second hotel and Kutshers."
i wonder what the deal is with the offsite nearby hotel. based on those reviews, they can't be any worse... then again, as one reviewer mused, "how much time do you spend in your room anyways?"
EDIT: just made myself a reservation at the Super8 in Monticello. cheaper ($300 for the weekend instead of $450), and while not fancy at least you know it'll be clean. they don't charge your credit card to hold the reservation and you can cancel until the day before - i'd suggest grabbing a reservation as a back-up. google maps indicated there is an Econo Lodge, Travel Inn, and other cheap options in town.
-
are you sure that is not called the Overlook Hotel?
-
HAH!

aw shit i changed it to make a more obscure reference but you quoted me too soon.

Tickets up now.
And I currently sadly don't have the cash.
-
snagged 3 tix. $237.00 each with fees.
took a while to get going, tho, at first the URL was throwing a 404.
-
almost all hotel rooms are sold out.
-
didn't get anything :(

those are the on-site hotels. once they're gone, they'll be selling off-site hotels - here's an e-mail I received from the organizers:
From: sweetcell
To: ATP Feedback
Subject: ATP Site: Feedback from sweetcell
Hello ATP! I have a quick question about the ATP NY festival, specifically your quote from the FAQ: "More tickets will be on-sale shortly after with accommodations in a nearby hotel. Shuttle buses will run between the second hotel and Kutshers." I'd like to stay off-site at this nearby hotel. Do you have any idea how long after the initial on-site offering is sold out, that the second off-site accommodations will be available? Are we talking minutes, or hours?
reply:
more like days.... or longer!
so despair not, teepo. there will be more tickets for sale at some point. keep checking the site or download a website monitor that will check it automatically for you.
as noted above, there are cleaner and cheaper hotel options in montecello. they'll have a shuttle between their offsite hotel and the venue, i'm hoping to catch that. otherwise, it's 3.5 miles from town to the venue, a quick drive.
-
3-day Event Only tix now sold out.
-
ah thats not bad at all. still debating on if i am going to buy tickets to this or not...so tempting, huge mbv fan. but tres tres $$ , not to mention needing to take a day off of work
well guess not now that its sold out. also, i thought tix were $225..but now I see a pound symbol in front of the price....fuck that.
-
Line up has good bands, but they're all a little slow. IMO, Low and Tortoise are great to listen to at home, but live it's a ZZZFest.
-

Sweetcell said they were $237 with fees.
However, I just noticed this from the ATP site:
Please note that prices, (though they appear in USD), will be processed in GBP, so there may be a very slight fluctuation in final price due to exchange rate differences, though we are doing out utmost to minimise this.
-
So they'll convert the $237 into pounds.
That's all that means.
-

more tickets will be available at some point.
tickets are definitely $237 each, dollars not pounds. a few minutes after i placed my order, i got a call from my CC company asking me to confirm a $711.00 purchase from a UK ticketing company ($237 X 3).
-
Yup, just pointing out that the exchange rate will be involved.
-
buying the room for 6 is very tempting. anyone interested in sharing accommodations?
-
Read my link above before you do that.
You're welcome. ;)
-
i wish i did read that earlier. i had a chance to buy single day tickets but slept on it since i was scared of not finding accommodation else where! FUCK!
i'll camp, sleep on dirt, sleep in a car (all which i've done for festivals) but fuck sleeping in room which is mole infested.
-
teepo, do you read previous posts?
no need to sleep in the dirt, unless that's your thing. plenty of cheap hotels in monticello, and there will be a shuttle bus from town to the venue. see my post immediately after azaghal's one with the link.
and i believe the complains were about mold, not moles :)
-
Although a real-life version of whack-a-mole sounds like a fucking blast. :)

Aaargh... I wish there were a D.C. date.
I'm tempted by the Roseland shows, but they're on Monday and Tuesday nights respectively. Not good timing for going up to NYC and back.

that's why i'm going to chicago :D

Me too...free place to stay, plus I get to see them at an amazing concert venue. I think the last time they came around in 1991 it was at the Metro.

i was planning on going, but have had to cancel. i was definitely looking forward to this festival. dammit. if anyone is interested in cheap tickets, please PM me.
-
This thing would've sold out so long ago if it was more reasonably priced.
I know I would've strongly considered going if tickets were $50-100 cheaper and have spoken to quite a few people who said the same thing.
Most fans of more experimental music are..uhh...well...broke. :)

agreed. the organizers have sort of acknowledged this: they're lowered the total ticket price from the original $237 to $213... although i suppose that could also be related to currency fluctuations since they're pricing in pounds. last time i say this, i promise: if you're looking for cheap tix, please contact me. i have some i can't use.

well the us dollar has been slowlllllly creeping back up since july
