Title: help, trying to get bloc party tix in london
Post by: Arthwys on March 01, 2005, 11:30:00 pm
I plan on moving to london for a six month work abroad program starting in september, and would love to see Bloc Party at one of their two london dates in october.  The tickets are onsale and going fast, only, I don't know if I could buy some and have them posted here to Maryland.  Anyone else bought UK concert tickets before?  Advice would be much appreciated.

OK I'll bite

Wait this is March and tickets are going on sale for October? 8 months away? That does not sound right.

 Otherwise, "Will Call" the tickets.

I know, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how far in advance these were going on sale.  But here it is in black and white....

No will call option that I can see, or else yeah, that would be the obvious choice.  Also, our crappy dollar that's not worth muchis making this a 40 dollar concert when you include all the charges and what have you.

Everything in the UK is going to cost you a fucking fortune... Ha Ha HA! And they will take the piss out of your accent, deride you for voting for Bush and be in awe of your Hummer H2.

 Just dont go.

Brilliant!  Thanks so much.  Though, according to the ticket purchase link through nme.com the standing section for friday is sold out already and the link you just provided doesn't seem to have saturday tickets order-able for some reason.  Hmm, still, much love to Miss MaRple!!!

Sorry for doubting you at the start. I thought you might have confused the day then month UK date convention.

Just to give you a rod and not just a fish....

I used pollstar to find the show and venue.

Then put the show and venue in google along with "tickets"

It was one of the top links.

If it is a work programme try and get paid what your Brit equivalents get paid. Well that is unless the dollar gets strong again.

Have a great time in London, but visit Edinburgh for me.

Umm I have been to the Brixton Academy. It was all standing. Saturday tickets probably wont go on sale till they sell a certain percentage of the Friday ones.

LOL, I hardly read your actual post in my haste to check out the link.  Yes, i'm fully aware that it's not exactly the greatest moment to be coming from America at the moment.  However, as crazy and naive as this may sound, my life plan (as a history major w/ a concentration in ancient and medieval history) is to land a job w/ English Heritage/National Trust/Cadw or something like that and move over there permanently.  I'm ethnically British on all sides of my family, w/ one grandfather being born there.  So basically, if things work out and I find that I can handle living and working in their system, you can expect me to blend in, lose the yank accent, and go native.

Now all are welcome to commence with jeering at my silly hopes and dreams.    :p

Edinburgh, lovely lovely city.  Visited a great deal of the UK w/ family about 7 years ago.  I debated working in Edinburgh, but decided that it's that time of my life to try and land myself smack in the middle of camden town where I may follow the london music scene as closely as possible.  Plus london has the tube and makes getting to the continent for a trip or two that much easier.

Do you have a UK passport? You better get one if you want a UK job, either that or get ready to marry a dodgy slapper. I am not sure a British grandfather is enough to swing it, is it?

It's through BUNAC  www.bunac.org (http://www.bunac.org) The deal basically is you pay 300 dollars or so and you get what they call a blue card which works as a 6 month work visa.  It's for students or recent graduates only.  Everything must be done on my own, finding the job, the flat and paying for it all, travel, etc.  But there's a BUNAC headquarters in london and also one in edinburgh that posts job and housing listings, they have an orientation, help you set up a bank account, all kind of goodies.  Plus organising weekly pub meets and trips further abroad like horseback riding in Wales and such.

Having a British grandfather would be enough if I were also a citizen of a commonwealth nation, but sadly this country happened to wage a war to leave the protective wings of the mother country a few years back...

yeah, I think it is going to be pretty hard to get to work long-term in UK. Hopefully you will have a good time whilst you are there, but realise what a dump it is the day you leave.

The jobs you are talking about are pretty competitive as well.

I worked in London 15+ years ago through one of those BUNAC work permits. I ended up carrying food off of trucks to the different food shops at Harrod's 6 days a week, for a miniscule wage.

I also some a half dozen shows while there. Three ska shows, the Cure at Wembley Arena, the Butthole Surfers (lost my glasses in the pit), and did I tell you the story about the blue haired girl giving us free tickets to the Pixies?

I'll take the 'dodgy slapper' over a 'doodle ho bag' any day of the week.

Next question.... I'll def be wanting to get right up to the front of the stage in the unreserved standing area on the floor.  They choice of ticket i've been given is "stall standing" and "circle seating/unreserved standing" or something like that... my guess is i should choose "stall standing"
