Boy am I happy to be back in town. Anyone going?
-
such a decision. i live in the match sticks, so i have to either drive in and attempt to park my car near the club, and worry about getting jacked, shot, stabbed (since it will be at least 5 to ten blocks away) and wondering the entire show if i'll have side windows for the ride home . . . or take metro and perhaps miss some of the end. is there a chance this will be an early ender for metro convenience? and will j. actually be brave enough to play material off of green mind, without a sound, or hand it over? i want my eleven minute plus version of alone.
-
So psyched for this show!
My guess is that it'll be over between 12:00 & 12:15 which means too late for metro.

Feel The Pain, Out There, Start Choppin', The Wagon, and other later tracks have been added to the setlist this year.
-
i'll be there. dinosaur jr is always a great show.
-
There.
-
I saw J play "Out There", "Feel the Pain" and "The Wagon" earlier this year. It was the best I've ever seen them yet.
-
I'll be there.
-
better show - dinosaur jr. or j. mascis and the fog?
-

J. Mascis requested "something Indian;" we hope we got the right kind. This goddess poster is screen printed on heavy cream poster using three colors - the required green and purple - and a metallic silver. Once your ears stop bleeding you can pick one and see details at El Jefe Design (http://www.eljefedesign.com). A few may be available at the show through the band. You can also go to the Rock-N-Shop on the 9th to pick one up.

Usually I complain that you don't do any posters for shows I attend, but now you have.
It looks pretty cool but I'm uncomfortable posting female nudity on my wall, though. :(

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the new RustyOrgan.
-
It is a religious icon not nudity. Look at it that way.

Not trying to be funny, but I actually am even less comfortable posting religious iconography on my wall.
-
i thought they cut that girl's extra limbs off.
-
I'm going, and quite happy about it. Every time I've seen J play at the BC, it's been shit-hot.
-
I'll be at the show... REALLY PSYCHED to see them at Black Cat!
-
i'm-a goin'
-
any idea on set times?
-
Probably 8:45/9:45/10:45 give or take a few minutes.
-
actually heard it's 8:00, 9:00, & 10:00 for set times. Dead confederate--the opener are quite good if you get there early
-
-
8 is door time...usually starts 30 mins later.

And it's at the Black Cat, so add at least 30 minutes to that time.

I'd say it's closer to 15.

Really great show...and sure glad that I wore my earplugs. It was comparable to the one I saw in Chicago back in May, though the sound was off for the first third or so of the show. But then at one point it all came together and during "Forget the Swan" it was pretty incredible. Other highlights: "Feel the Pain", "Out There", "Kracked" and "Sludgefeast". Great, great stuff.
To the guy who took J's setlist before the encore (and got yelled at by the roadie), you suck, asshole. What a jerk.
-
that was me. i just really had to have that setlist more than anything else i've ever needed in my life. you shall never know such pleasures.

Awesome. That just made my morning.
Decent show overall, I think. No ear plugs (for the weak and all) and my ears aren't too bad today. The show definitely started out a little slow, but I'm also sick as a dog, so that certainly didn't help.
Man, it killed from "Feel The Pain" onward. That
encore was fierce!
-
I actually didn't think it was that loud. A J & the Fog show a few years blew out my ears for days, but I feel okay today.
Great show. J has become Gandalf, the white wizard of indie rock. I thought the songs off the new album were very strong.
-
Would somebody post a setlist for those of us who had to duck out early?
-
Ask the guy that stole J's setlist before the last 3 songs. He'd be able to tell you.
-
My ears felt just fine with earplugs in although it was pretty fucking loud. Agreed with the great show sentiments; little bitter they didn't play "Little Fury Things," though.
-
I don't think they played "In a Jar" either.
-
And they skipped "The Lung" too...

And I've seen most of those on every setlist I've read from this tour. :(
-
I bet they would've played these songs if snailhook hadn't stolen the setlist :( [/b][/quote]

good show last night, though the sound did suck for the first few songs. fortunately, they tweaked it enough to sound good after about 15 minutes.
i preferred the other two shows i've seen since they reunited (july 2005 at 930, april 2006 at cat's cradle), but this was solid, and i like most of the new record. "pick me up" has turned out to be an epic jam. "kracked/sludgefeast" was my highlight this time. and "out there" was particularly heavy.
i would post the setlist, but last night when i went to take a shit, i discovered i had no toilet paper, so i had to use the setlist. all that work for nothing. kind of embarrassing, really.
-
If you just want to know what the encore was, it was Freak Scene/Tarpit/Chunks.
Pretty great show in all, it really came together near the end there. I would have liked to hear Green Mind, The Wagon, or Start Choppin' instead of one of those noodle-rific songs in the middle of the set but I was still happy.
-
The Wagon has been a lock in setlists of late, shocked you guys didn't hear it.
I'm going to the Asheville show in Friday.
-
i had a funny feeling the show was going to be another j. snoozefest. i remember the legend days; before the white hair. i remember the days when you didn't say the fog is a better band. bad j.
-
Man, that roadie was bent up about the list. I was in the middle of the room and could see the hate in his eyes. Good stuff.

Not a snoozefest by any means.
But then again, I could've stood there and listened to J shred all night.
-
Yeah no kidding. Some of those solos made me think of your post about pitying people that don't get a thrill out of his guitar work.

i'm with you guys. j does shred right. then again, i can listen to nick saloman (bevis frond) and neil young solo for hours and not get bored. that's one of the things i like about doug martsch (except he ain't as good as these other guys). indie snobs need to get over the guitar excess thing. it doesn't have to sound like meandering jam band soloing.
-
bands that have the encore songs listed on paper are super lameeeee
-
don't get me wrong, i could listen the rest of my life away to j. play . . . but the last two shows i saw of his weren't anything special. but i wasn't at the blackcat show, so what do i know. it just seemed that "the show came together towards the middle/end," didn't sound like anything special. did he even play a single song off of hand it over?
-

No. They have not since the reunion. Most fans are pretty pleased about this.
-
if they were fans, they would pray as he did a cover of "sexy back."
-
After about 45 or 50 minutes they still hadn't played a single note of you're living all over me. I was very sleepy and went home early.
I didn't see any of Dead Confederates. But I thought that Awesome Color was, well, awesome.
-
I'm glad you posted this. Second time I've seen them, and they were pretty great again.
Snailhook, I'm sure you know more than I do, but I'm pretty sure that last song they played (and at the Oneida show) isn't on Thurston Moore-released album. Any idea what it's from? That song rules.

i don't say this often, or maybe i try not to publicly, but i *hated* them [awesome color].
the drummer i think is amazing and i thought it was appropriate that they gave a shout-out to the apes because i was thinking "man, she drums just like the guy from the apes" and i love him.
but the rest of awesome color? no thank you.
-
they will be playing the rock and roll hotel in the spring.

thanks for the reminder, forgot about those fensler productions. i spent a very hungover morning a few years ago trying to make sense of this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RytiKEkfByM) and this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1BDM1oBRJ8) (language nsfw). didn't succeed, but we had a lot of fun trying.

i like awesome color. alison is a kickass drummer. i missed them this time but i've seen them a few times. don't know what that last song is that you're talking about, nkotb. they certainly aren't writing any new books, but it's a chapter of rock 'n' roll that i don't mind rereading multiple times. solid stoogy/comets on fire stuff.
