the most educated part came out a few years ago, with Bethesda as the "smartest community in the United States," due to the high percentage of doctors and lawyers. and i'm NOT surprised at the rest of it. but i guess being more highly educated takes care of the fact that people around here don't spend quite as lavishly as those in New York, California, etc. some do. and they do have the money.
-
So does being a doctor or lawyer automatically qualify you as being smarter than anybody else?
-
no...

no, but having a internet connection seems to work for you.....

I think the criteria that earned Bethesda the "smartest" community in the U.S. was the percentage of graduate degrees in general, not just legal and medical licenses. The high percentage of doctors and lawyers helped earn Bethesda the title of Jewishest community in the U.S.

no, but it necessarily means that they are more educated at the university level than one with a BS. or doesn't it?
-
more educated does not always mean smarter. i dont think.

I think I'm one of about five families at my shul with neither parent a doctor or lawyer!!

Technically, I think it's "Jewiest" but the joke remains the same.

I was at a wine class last night, and overheard the Jewish guy who was teaching the class tell the Asian woman who was pouring the wine to "be stingy". I kid you not.

no WONDER you missed the Wolfmother show last night! wine class. cant miss that!!!!
-
Well given that Wolfmother was in Atlanta last night, I figured getting to the wine class would be a little easier.
And sometimes when you're married, you have to do your partner's choice of activities. At least I talked her out of seeing "The Breakup".

i ALMOST had to take a pottery class.
-
Ooh, that would have been rough. I work with a guy whose wife apparently does pottery for her occupation. Which explains his goofy homemade coffee mug and devotion to hippie music.

So what wholesale business are they in?
I think you need to be pretty smart to be a doctor, but you could teach a monkey to be a lawyer...no offense intended to any lawyers. (smackie)...and if you can't make it as a lawyer you can just go into politics. As one attorney said to me one time..our country is run by bad lawyers, because if they were any good they would've stayed in private practice and made some real coin. I thought that was a good point.

So, Maryland is the new Jewish homeland? And I had always thought that it was New Jersey..?
Jews, in general, are envied in the US in much the same way that people around the world envy Americans. Because they are usually rather more successful than them. Nothing inspires jealously more than success. But is success a bad thing?
You know what I say to those people around the world that envy American's for their success? I say if you can't beat them join them. To prove it I have lopped the skinfold around my glans penis. I eat bagels almost every day, Einstein Bros. too! And I eat tons o'Hebrew National Polish Sausage. I thought that Rodney Dangerfield, when alive, was the messiah...not that Schneerson dude. I should be made an honorary Jew, or something...as long as it doesn't require wearing that silly looking half-an-Amish-brassiere thingie on ones head, I'm game.
------
BTW, I sure hope the above doesn't offend the four Jewish people who poast to this forum. I don't mean to make any sweeping generalizations(never believe it). I'm sure there are lotsa Jews in America who are "less than successful". In point of fact, I know a couple of these success-lottery losers. How's that?
-
No, Maryland is the home of the bad drivers.

That's PA, not MD.

while Los Angeles houses both the Jews and the terrible drivers.

Actually LA drivers are very competent drivers. Yes, they drive like maniacs, but they have control over their vehicles. In MD, I see accidents every day...and lots of drivers are maniacs who don't have control over their vehicles :)

I think Miami currently holds the title of nation's worst drivers. South Florida is also home to 10% of the American Jewish population. Coincidence.....?

I found this:

all bad drivers are either Jewish, Asian, or on their cell phones. or all three. it's a known fact. the next time someone cuts you off, you'll see, too...

i think the controlling factor there is age ... i have some fantastic old-people-driving stories from growing up in florida

Who fucking cares.

Ummm...Have you ever heard of Pikesville? Pikesville MD has the highest concentration of Jews per capita in all of the U.S. It surpasses Brooklyn, NY even. Potomac and Bethesda pale in comparison.
