Title: security issue with merriwether pit passes
Post by: Marty666 on July 31, 2007, 01:48:00 am
at tonights Manson show at merriwether, there was a small pit set up in the orchestra area. (ive seen this done for other bands, like NIN). anyway, its a nice reasonable sized pit area and great place to see a show.
the problem is, now people can download and print their own tickets, make as many copies as they want, pass them out to their friends with lawn seats, and then they all get into the pit.
tonights pit was packed during Mansons closing set, and I wouldnt be surprized if there were more then a few people who shouldnt of been in there. i think in the future, the pit wristbands should be given at the gate when the ticket is scanned, or thru some other system that doesnt allow for abuse.

the pit at the manson/slayer show tonight was crowded due to the position of the barricade.  a stage thrust forced us to set the barricade in an unusual position that took up more space.

i thought in the past, on the night of the show the pit area is re-measured and sometimes additional tickets are sold because usually they undercount the square feet just incase something like a different stage configuration eats up space. and that the fire marshall is involved with measuring it.
also, members of slayer were quoted as saying that their fans would leave during mansons set if he played certain songs like tainted love etc. so i was expecting to see more room in the pit for manson but it was jam packed.
i also thought bands fax stage arrangements months in advance.
so anyway, whether or not people using extra copies of their tickets to get their friends into the pit tonight happened or not, it could easily happen at the next show now that everyone who was in the pit tonight saw how it was done.
sure, maybe the slayer fans wont figure it out. but some of those manson fans can be very clever.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that they take away your ticket, then give you a wristband if you have a general admission ticket...?

I think what he's saying is that he suspects people are making extra copies of the Ticketmaster tickets you can print at home.  They use their regular ticket to get in the door and this copy to gain access to the pit since (the last time I was there anyway) they don't have people with scanners at the entrance to the pit to look for multiple uses of a single bar code.

correct, thats exactly what im saying.   another solution other then giving the wristbands out at the gate might be using a special hole puncher or colored marker at the gate on the ticket sheet, so the person giving out the wristbands would know it quailified for entry.

it would suck to be a show, and have the fire marshall decide there were too many people in the pit area and not let other people in who had already paid extra for pit tickets.

Perhaps posting your concern on an internet forum wasn't the best approach to take-I'm sure you just gave a lot of people the idea.

Don't they scan the print-at-home tickets? Only the first person with that scanned ticket will get in, and they get a wristband AT THE DOORS that allows them into the pit. This isn't a hard concept.

You cannot show up at the enterance to the pit with a "pit ticket" and expect to get in... you had to get the wristband at the door. They're going to then send you there, you're going to get your ticket scanned, and then promptly removed from the venue.

Technically if you print duplicate pit tickets you can hand them off to your friends who bought lawn tickets once you all are inside. I worked at MW one summer and there were always a few people trying to pull stuff like this but I don't think it's a huge problem.

I just don't understand how the person who bought the pit ticket benefits from this.

Um, you can enjoy the company of your friends who were too lazy to get tickets.

If they are too cheap/lazy to get tickets how good would the company be?    ;)

This should be the new official 930 club response to every presale password/sell out/tickets.com/scalping complaint.

"For $5 I can get you in the pit?"

Do that 20 times and you just made $100, which is a lot to a kid.
