I don't know if anyone has caught Sam Roberts the last couple of times he's been in town, but the man is a hardcore rock and roll hero. He's opened here for the likes of The Dears, Soundtrack of Our Lives, and the Tragically Hip. This should be his first headlining show.
He's achieved a large amount of success in Canada - he won Junos for Album, Rock Album, and Artist of the Year after the release of his first record. I'm not sure how I'd describe his music but to say it's a cross between Bruce Springsteen and the Beatles isn't too far off. And he puts on a blazing live show. Iota is kind of weird venue for him but I know he'll kick ass there. A show I'd definitely recommend people check out.

I saw him a few years ago opening for TSOOL and the Ceasars. I thought he was really good, but Tuesday might be tough for me. What time do weeknight shows usually run at IOTA?

I thought he was even better when he came back and opened for the Tragically Hip. Unfortunately, I won't be making the show tomorrow, but I second xcanuck's endorsement.

There are two openers and the Iota website says the show starts at 8:30. So I'm guessing Sam won't go on until 10:30.

So how was the show tonight? I was hoping to make it out but my schedule didn't permit.

The show was kinda weird. Sam usually puts on the same show for 200 people that he does playing for 20,000. But last night's crowd was small - maybe 60 people. The setlist was shorter than usual and had more of a psychadelic/jam feel to it than the more straight ahead rock shows.
Still, a very good show. Just not the best I've ever seen.

I thought the show would've been packed - wish I could have gone. The addition of another opener at Iota's shows during the week (causing late start time for headliner) are putting me out of attendance.
p.s. so what were the set times? Thanks.

Slow Runner at 8:30, Damnwells at 9:20, and Sam Roberts around 10:30....I think.
