Title: Need a cheesy song
Post by: HoyaSaxa03 on August 01, 2007, 02:44:00 pm
so i'm doing a sarcastic "walk down memory lane" slide show for a friend's wedding and i'm trying to come up with the best absurdly cheesy song to use as a backing track

i'm thinking "in your eyes" or MJ's "you are not alone", or some power ballad

 thoughts?

mr. big - "to be with you"

actually, "glory of love" would be good too. or from the same soundtrack:

joe esposito - "you're the best around"

Somebody say cheesey?

I used to use Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" but it has since been co-opted by the Sopranos.

Depending on how old the person is, The Culture Club always gets a good laugh, anything by a Boy Band (NKOTB and 'N Sync bring the house down), and the aforementioned long hair power ballad from the late 80's early 90's.

I haven't actually heard this one, but I still offer it up for your consideration:

Plain White T's "Hey There, Delilah"

 gerry rafferty - "baker street"

and that chuck mangione song (his famous instrumental)

 christopher cross - "sailin'"

 tay zonday - "chocolate rain"

"Ever Fallen in Love? (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" by the Buzzcocks.  Put it with your wedding slide show.  Trust me.  It'll work.

The thing is that anything by Bryan Adams, Richard Marx, Lionel Richie or Peter Gabriel might come off as sincere.  There's got to be some awful 80's movie with a terrible song.

What about YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH! YOU'VE GOT THE POWAAAAAH.

Just remember that if you're at a wedding what might seem funny and ironic to a bunch of internet hipsters might be lost on Grandma and great Aunt Sally.

You need something totally over the top like "I'm Too Sexy" or "Ice Ice Baby".  Maybe the Spice Girls...

that's what i'm concerned about.

i'm trying to tread the fine line of finding something that everyone would find ironic, but not going the "ice ice baby" route

If you want everyone to be in on the joke, older stuff would probably be the way to go.  Show tunes maybe?

I have to disagree with the fact that it wasn't #1 on the list (no dissrespect to Starship).

What you really need to do is put some effort into it and match the song(s) up with the timeframe of the pictures so when he looks like Vanilla, you play vanilla, when he looks like boy george, you play some culture club, etc.
