Title: guilty pleasures 2004
Post by: booradley17 on December 11, 2004, 05:58:00 am
this is the thread that will separate the men from the boys the girls from the women;what was the musical guilty pleasure you had this year:I will start it off in the most heinous way I know how ....I actually looked forward to the new Avril Lavigne album and when it came out I found myself singing along in the shower to more than a few of the songs...apparently I am a homosexual...don't tell my girlfriend please...I am officially turning in my white belt and my subscription to Mojo...

Gosh...I was gonna cite Stellastar as my guilty pleasure....I don't feel so guilty now!

Booradley17 you the man.  I don't despise Avril so much.  I mean, compared to Brittany Spears and Christina Slutskillerra  she's great.  You're a real man for posting that here  :)

first, i'd hardly list stellatarr* as a guilty pleasure, and second, their album came out in 2003.

in the spirit of the thread originator, i'm gonna have to say the latest sum 41 record.  i found myself rocking out to that alot more than i probably should have.

Mine is going to THREE shows at MCI Center this year.  Holy cow, even I can't believe it.  Prince was fantastic, Vote for Change awesome, and Madonna was quite a spectacle but...too much a broadway-type show rather than a concert for me.

I'll say it; 'Toxic' is one hell of a  good pop song.

Guilty pleasure-that would easily be Prince or Kanye West.

I can sing all the words to Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman." I also like "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big & Rich.  :p

ya think I'm gonna post about my guilty pleasures on a public message board?!   Oh wait, you mean music... well hmm, that would be Electric Six, which my friend Katie gave me for my birthday... how can you go wrong with lyrics like the below?  This is an extremely guilty pleasure, unless they're so funny that they cross the line into hipster irony, in which case it's a pleasure but I'm not guilty.  But they also genuinely rock, which counts against hipsterness.

Love that song!

As for guilty pleasures for myself this past year, I would choose Scissor Sisters (oh, and dancing to house music Saturday nights at The Blue Room - I'm going to have to go to confession *numerous* times to atone for that).  ;)

 Cheers

I'll second Toxic as one hell of a good pop song.  I'm so ashamed to like it though.

Also, that Electric Six song is good...the album isn't very good though....

I think mine would be the new Green Day album.  It isn't great, but it's good for Green Day....

k8tee... really?  I like the whole album, but maybe it's just because I have it on heavy rotation in my car, and it's definitely fun driving music.

Oh, and liking Green Day is DEFINITELY a guilty pleasure... you just sold any punk cred you had down the river!   :D

I never feel guilty when I listen to music I enjoy.

I don't care that other people hate Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Sum 41, Blink 182, No Doubt, Lindsay Lohan, U2, Outkast, Gretchen Wilson, Christmas Music, etc.

If I enjoy it, I listen to it.  If you don't enjoy it, don't listen to it.  If the critics/hipsters/indie/general-music-know-it-alls tell you not to like it and make you feel guilty, then stop reading what they have to say.

Be proud, stand tall and take a stance.  Crank up Britney's greatest hits and dance around in your underwear - you will be a happier person if you do.

I thought most people considered them fairly cheesy pop, I dont really feel all that guilty about it.  It just reminds me how cool I thought the start of "Hello Again" was when I was a kid and my brother would play the Heartbreak City album.  I only have the Anthology now.

hmmm, it was a ho-hum year for albums, but there were plenty of great tunes nestling out there on mediocre albums

I'll agree with that. I am now collaborating the Top 400 singles of the year, per 22 people across this vast country, and Canada, and its looking like a lot of different artists with just one good song..

 Smallville.

Though I don't really feel guilty about it.
