Title: Stupid iPod question #12
Post by: ggw on March 09, 2006, 04:08:00 pm
I haven't updated the songs on my iPod since last year.  In the interim, my computer was rebuilt and not all the songs on my iPod are also on my computer.  Can I add songs to my iPod without deleting those already on there?

You're going to need to turn off auto-update which syncs your ipod with your library. Once this is done, you can just import the additional files to your ipod.

So if I drag and drop a playlist onto my iPod icon, it will simply add those songs to the iPod without deleting the songs that are already on the iPod but not on the playlist that I drag and drop?

Once you've turned off auto-update, everything is manual. The only way a song goes to the ipod is if you drag-and-drop it. The only way a song leaves the ipod is if you manually delete it.

Might be easier to use a program to get all your files from the ipod to the computer using a third-party application like Ephpod. Then, you can always sync your collection even if you still want to use itunes without worrying if you've moved something new over or not.

Ah yes I used to love Ephpod back in the days before Itunes for PC.

Now back to that speaker upgrade......
