Their shows at Iota were incredible. The singer, Brandon Butler, still plays around, but that band rocked.

Ditto on GI and Marginal Man - used to worship at the alter of Joyride and Identity

And I can't remember then name of the band, but this guy, Steve, who I used to move furniture with about 15 years ago had the most righteous band with this other guy I moved furniture with (his name escapes me too...was it Doug?)

I second Velocity Girl. I still listen to those albums. The reunion shows they did a couple years ago at the Black Cat were great...glad I was able to attend.

Beauty Pill is putting out a new album in May called "on not knowing"

Random if by "dick" you mean "really sexy and in real life much taller than he appears on the internet" I have heard the same thing.  This Steve guy must really be something else!!!   :)

Chaz, I think you mean the seminal and totally awesome rock band called Too Small Children.  They totally paved the way for so many other bands that never did anything and no one ever heard of. Who hasn't heard of the unforgettable night of rock they performed at Galluadet University?

Chaz and I used to work with a guy named Scrupmtious Al.  It was quite a job.

Thanks for that info.  I just assumed they had quietly dissipated, since they lost more band members, haven't played a gig in god knows how long (late 2004?)  and haven't updated their website in a year.

I can't believe no one has mentioned either Phaser or Q and Not U. I was able to see Q and Not U perform several times, but I'm still pissed that I never got to see Phaser live, so I wish they were still around the most.

Didn't Q & Not U just break up last year? That's probably why they aren't on the tips of everyone's tongues. Need more time to miss them than a few months.

i don't really wish they were still around, because most bands break up for a reason, but i always thought that one of the most underrated local bands was THE ROPERS. really great dreamy indie pop on teenbeat/slumberland.

Murder Ink.  Wow, someone remembers them.  Do you have their CD?

I have to agree with most of these, 9353 happy to have seen them the first time through and when the briefly reformed (and played the Taste of DC).  Velocity Girl IIRC broke up because of the downward trend in their CD sales.  Date Bait, the Ubangis still play on occasion, and that is pretty close.

Canyon.  They were stunning.  I know Brandon Butler does a solo thing, and some of the rest of the guys are playing as Revival, but Canyon was way better then either of those two acts.

I haven't given them a proper listen but there's a band called "Maritime" which has 2 members from the DP + you got Travis Morrison's solo record.

There's band called "Gun" with Phaser's singer and they are pretty tight and rockin'...

I believe Maritime only had 1 DP member (Eric Axelson), but now have 0.  They do have 2 members of  The Promise Ring.  I don't care for them very much.

I also loved D-plan and hated Maritime. Compared to Travis' solo album though, they're the Beatles.

Maritime wasn't bad, but by the end of their full-length I find myself bored.  They've got a few catchy songs though.  The EP is worth picking up.

Phaser
      :(

On a more positive note, Boris Skalsky's new band, Dead Heart Bloom, will be playing at Iota on March 28th. This show promises to contain some special treats just for this particular show. I'm not sure if I am at liberty to reveal some of what they have planned but I will tell you that Paul Wood (ex-Phaser) will be sitting in for a few songs and that there are a couple other additional highlights that will be part of this special show.

They have a new full length out soon, I have a copy of the promo, only listened once, but it didnt seem to be that much better than the previous album.
