How were Men, Women, and Children?

I got stuck in traffic getting to the club from work, and they were done by the time I got there. :(

But she's playing a keyboard. Bands with keyboards suck...at least Shadrach sez so.

Bummer. I have an advance copy of the record. It's really good. Hoping to catch them at the webster tonight in nyc.

Several observations from me:
- The crowd for Islands may even have been denser than for Metric. And there were lots of under 21s clearly having some difficulties with drugs. One girl passed out in front of us, another spent the entire show in a bathroom stall, and I saw a couple others having a hard time over at the bar. It was kind of odd -- I mentioned to xcanuck that I'll bet the club staph never thought the early show would be the one with medical/substance abuse issues!
- Metric clearly counters the discussion from earlier this week about the stalward DC crowds. For most of the show, the entire front 1/3 of the audience was bouncing, waving hands around, full on dancing. And by the end, half the audience on the floor was really jumping around. It was great to see -- Metric comes off kind of disco on their albums, but they are much closer to a punk vibe at their shows.
- It was a good show, their most energetic crowd-wise, but I think I've seen them enough. I've seen them four times in two years. 'Nuff for a little while.

i keep replaying the last 5 minutes of metric's set over and over in my head. they were so fucking good. and the crowd was great.

I wish I could have gone, but I was stuck at work until 8. I keep hearing the Metric "I fought the war but the war won" song in my head. I really wanted to see Islands, but I guess I can catch them at their Black Cat show. How was their set?

The crowd was SO young! It was pretty funny.
Men, Women, and Children were pretty bad. But at least they were the kind of bad that's interesting to watch.
Islands was very good, I enjoyed their set. I might go over to see them at the Black Cat in April.
Metric was alright. It was my first time seeing them. Their show was energetic, but it didn't blow me away. But what I'm still baffled by is the price of their merch. 25 bucks for a t shirt and 65 for a sweatshirt. Absolutely insane. I would expect better out of them.

Denser crowd for Islands? You mean as a state of mind or the actual distribution of bodies on the floor? B/c there were far more people there by the time Metric came on (as is often the case when working up to a headliner).
That said... coming off the Unicorns I was excited about Islands opening and getting to see two good bands on a show... then Men, Women, and Children took me by surprise and made it THREE!
All of these acts were fantastic. Niel from Islands looked as though he raided a jazz orchestra with what he had assembled up on stage. And with everyone dressed in white I couldn't help but draw parallels to the recent Michael Bay flick of a similar name. The violinist stage left looked so happy to be there... infectious!
I wish I had caught more than the last few songs of Men, Women, and Children but they mentioned something about being back in a month and half... so more bubbles, bright new wave clothing, and colorful disco lights next time around.
And Metric... they just get better and better. It took me a little while to warm up to this new album (loving the old material a bit too much) but even after I did every single song sounded so much better in performance.
I was expecting a fun show but this was such a blast all the way through. Much more than I had hoped for.

Very happy about this. Always disappointed when I expect a crowd to be a bit dancey (like the recent B&S/New Pornos) and they aren't. And we all know it isn't just a DC thing. Some people assume NY and LA crowds are a bit more ho-hum than other places... I really don't know what to expect from any particular city/venue/band anymore... can't seem to find a consistency.
