When on earth is this retarded drug war (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/12/people.garfunkel.ap/index.html) going to end? He was a passenger in the limo, for chrissakes.
-
What does being the passenger have to do with it? They found the pot in his jacket pocket.

New York seems to have some reasonable penalties. $100 fine plus $100 in court costs.
-
It's me -- I know pot is illegal, but I do not see why. My point about being the passenger is that he was endangering no one. Like booze. it's only a problem if you get behind a wheel. Otherwise, it's your liver, go to town. And watch these sports events that our beer sponsors!!!!

Because its the law......thats all you need to see.
-
I follow the law, and don't smoke up myself, but am allowed to disagree with it and think it should be changed. How 'bout some of those antiquated sodomy laws, my friend. In some states, your wife can't give you a blow...

Thats why i just dont get married. If she cant blow whats the sense in having her? (Waits for angry response)

That attitude is probably the real reason you can't find a wife!
;)
I do agree though....if it's against the law expect to get prosecuted...if you don't like the law, tough shit. I think it's a stupid law that you drive on the right side of the road over here, but do I go round driving on the left?

But, if it's important to you, you could work to get the law changed. And there's nothing wrong with that...

Mankie, I agree with Bags here. If you think the law is wrong, try to change it.
Tough shit, yes, it's a risk, but do something to change it.

have to agree with bags on both counts (pot and sodomy!) truth is, we should work our asses off to get a little more like our neighbo(u)rs to the north. They seem to understand that sex and drugs are none of the government's damn business, as long as no one gets hurt (and will someone please tell me when the last time someone died from a pot overdose, or a drinking and smoking accident? let alone anal sex...)
-
I dunno, the AIDS epidemic tells me a few people have died from anal sex...

I somehow doubt that the actual act of anal intercourse has ever been responsible for a single death. point is, unprotected sex with multiple partners, and the right to engage in homosexual expressions of love, are two entirely different things.

"A man of 36 is believed to have become the first person in Britain to die directly from cannabis poisoning.
Lee Maisey smoked six cannabis cigarettes a day for 11 years, an inquest heard. His death, which was registered as having been caused by cannabis toxicity, led to new warnings about the drug, which is due to be reclassified this month as a less dangerous one.
"This type of death is extremely rare," Prof John Henry, a toxicologist at Imperial College, London, said after the inquest at Haverfordwest, west Wales."
Yeah, but come on, you can probably die from Mentos if you have too many for too long.....
-
mmmmmmmm mentos......
i'm not addicted...........i can quit anytime............
sook,sook........crunch
-
Mentos are the BOMB. They sell them in a box at Giant, and it's 70% more mentos than are in the roll, but take up about the same space in your purse. Oh....yes....I think I need one now.
-
actually i'd sooner have the marijuana...............

except that it's illegal.... :p

mmmm mentos. fresh goes better.
i agree with you bags. being passive can be just as bad as being too active. if someone doesn't like law, don't be a baby and sit around whining about it. at least try to make some headway. then if you fail you have a right to sit around and whine. while smoking/etc marijuana is illegal, it doesn't stop the large numbers of people who still smoke or sell it every single day. people have the right to do what they want to their own bodies. however, those scary anti drug commercials that say every time you buy weed you are supporting hairy guerrilla fighters in random countries makes me think about "the bigger picture," if there is such a thing...
-
Why is pot illegal?
Perhaps its because it is difficult to test if someone is under the influence whilst driving?
-
We live in a very random world, don't we Paige.

Er, You were complaining because he was in court for doing something illegal....not for trying to change a law. I have no problem with trying to change laws, but while they are laws don't do it or expect to get prosecuted if you do and get caught.

I was complaining because I think it's a stupid law, emphasized by the arrest of a guy in the back seat of a limo just hanging out doing nothing to no one no how...(since it's Garfunkel, I'm thinking it was really a Town Car...).
I also hewed and cried over sentencing Tommy Chong to so much time for selling pot-related paraphenalia. He wasn't changing the law, but how retarded is that law?!?
[I'm not a NORML member or pot activist, but often these arrests strike me as so misguided and inane, with all that goes on in the world...it's just a distraction, or worse, a tool for deflection...]

I was just responding to your comment about me changing the law, when your original post was not about changing the law, it was about a "stupid law".
I disagree with you though, drugs and selling them should be illegal, and those who commit these crimes should be in the pokie.
HOWEVER! I'd rather guns be illegal than pot, but evidently it's okay to have a product in your possession who's SOLE PURPOSE is for injuring or killing, but not for okay for some stoner to smoke dis shit.
-
Mankie, why do you feel pot should be illegal, and alcohol should be legal?
-
bottom line is that the drug war is unbelievably expensive, completely unsuccessful, and often used to target segments of the population (specifically minorities and those of lower socioeconomic status). Why do we continue to allow our tax dollars into Ashcroft's pocket?
-

Because it's a very bad road to go down...pot first then mushrooms, then crack, then meth, then heroine....where does it end?
Regardless if wether you drink beer, wine, vodka, gin etc etc...it's still alcohol
-

Don't get me wrong, I hate the Nazi, but he's hardly personally profiteering from it now is he?
-
I have smoked pot and it didn't lead me any further down the road...
My wife used to smoke pot every friggin day of her life, and it didn't lead her any further down the road...
Beer and wine are much less harmful than hard liquor...

Mankie, you remind me of my parents. It depends on who is taking these substances. Lots of people start with pot and stay forever with pot and never or accasionally try another substance, but they don't get addicted to it.

You should listen to your parents then.
You just openly said, Quote" Occasionally try another substance" Unquote...and there's the slippery slope.
Anyway, why do you stoners want it legalized? All that will happen then is they'll tax the shit out of it so you'll all end up paying a fortune for for the stuff.

You're right, that was my original premise -- I diverged...
I agree with Paige on the whole drug war...that's just how I see it.

you forgot LSD...it comes usually either before or after mushrooms...and, many people who do pot, shrooms and LSD would never do crack or coke...it's a totally different buzz

I have tried pot but have never tried anything besides it. It's like with alcohol, you need to know the dangers associated to these substances. However, I agree with telling your kids that if you start with pot, you will soon end with something else, which will be more dangerous. I think it's a good preventive measure.

ha ha...I agree with this one

I disagree with this...why lie to them? It's really not true. Just tell them that it makes them dumber than they could be if they didn't smoke it, while believing that they are actually smarter and more interesting than they really are, and that inhaling any kind of smoke is bad for their lungs.

agreed. I've never tried shrooms or acid, but I think it appeals to a very different (and in my mind healthier and safer) crowd than crack/coke/meth/heroin etc. plus you can't get addicted (at least physically) to any of the hallucinogens.
-
A healthier and safer crowd? Do pot smokers exercise more than coke addicts? Who's to say someone that takes acid is safer than someone that does meth?
I can see that acid/shrooms/pot is a healthier alternative to the other drugs listed. But, unless I read your post wrong, I think you're logic is a bit off.

separating those drugs that are physically addictive, from those that are not.......

exactly...so what were we arguing about?
point is, hallucinogens â?? due to the fact that they are not physically addictive â?? can be experimented with. I'm yet to see a junkie who can claim he or she simply "experiments" with smack.

So that makes them "healthier" does it? Maybe they should sell them in GNC then.
"Less Dangerous" would be more appropiate...no?
-
healthier is such a flakey term......
Is pot healthier than drinking? Well it probably would be if you didnt smoke it in combination with tobacco. A nice delivery system and things would be great.
GNC would be fine as most of the drugs we are talking about here are natural plant extracts.
-
we can meet up before the TV on the Radio show, thirsty...nothing goes together quite like crank and indie rock.

Way to put it! As for me, I'll just stick with my liquor and ovaltine.

how about low-fat brownies or oatmeal cookies?

You have to be careful eating the stuff. It is much easier to get a lethal dose/get sick/ be high for 24 hours.....
Not highly recommended. Still if you dont smoke and only eat a little, it works well with a couple of beers.
